Thanks for letting us see the puppies this morning. They love cooler weather. When I lived in Texas, I felt bad for the dogs in summer heat, especially when they had to walk on pavement. Your dogs have lots of grass for frolicking and look quite happy.

Hi Matthew! It was nice seeing Lil and Margo. They're so precious! The new shrubs in the front garden add a nice pop of color. Your shrub hedge is looking good. I'm looking forward to seeing it after you add more to it. The area around the swing will be nice. I like your plans for making it pretty. Thank you so much for sharing!

I can't wait to see how you transform the swing set space! I can just imagine swinging and watching the little things nature does to thrive. Our lovely cool tempts have been replaced by the heat, unfortunately, and the bees are seeking hydration from the hummingbirds feeders. The hummingbirds are curious little creatures ( I have three that visit and are very chatty) and always check out what I am doing when I water the garden in the evening.

I love forsythia when it blooms in early spring and everything else is brown and gray, but I tore out a thirty-foot totally out of control hedge of the stuff that was on my property when I bought it. If there is a cultivar that doesn't want to form a 10-foot wide thicket I would love to plant it. To be fair, my forsythia was infiltrated by wisteria -- it was an interesting question as to which one would win, but I needed to take the whole mess out. It took some strong young guys and some skid steers to remove. You are making great progress and I like your ideas for turning the swingset area into something beautiful.

Matthew, I absolutely love the swing bed edging. That will be a lovely addition. I wanted to let you know that I ordered my glow stick Holly and I also got a Jeanna Phlox and believe it or not, the original knockout rose that I thought was no longer available. I know this is a parking lot plant, but I want it purely for nostalgia. Thank you so much for the source on the glow stick.

Absolutely not in our climate. There were three blue spruce that I removed around the fence when I moved in last year. They were in some early videos. They get a disease in our area and decline fairly rapidly. It’s a shame because they’re beautiful, but I won’t plant one.

Maybe your older crabapples have a fungus or something that you could get treated. We are going through a 2 year spray treatment plan for our red oak trees in order to save them. It’s not overly expensive.

The rose is looking good against the house . All of it looks so good. I will have to go back and look at your drip videos. I live in Florida, and it has been super , super hot here. From the heat and humidity we have bad storms. My mistake is under watering because the storms rolls in and out it looks like a lot of water but then when you check the plants its not as saturated as it appear. I have lost a lot of plants so I really need to get comfortable with drip. Thank you for sharing.

Have to be careful with those since I have septic. Also, my willow at my last house got an awful fungus every year it wasn’t sprayed and defoliated. I love them, but I’d have to find a tried and true variety that didn’t have issues and that stayed smaller.

I wonder if you might try something like Bonide Infuse systemic on your crab apple. We had a similar sounding issue which we think was shot hole disease on a cherry tree and it seems to be working this year. We applied 3 times when flowers started emerging. Cheaper to try maybe than to replace

Love the puppies! What great progress you have made in your new garden. It is amazing that you are able to do so much by yourself. Your speaking ability is appreciated and exceptional. Wondering if soil testing would help in identifying some nutrient deficiency in some areas of your garden. Have you used azomite ? or fungal ? additives to your soil. Do find that the breakdown of mulch and bark requires additional nitrogen fertilizer? Good luck ! Michael & Ray
@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden Месяц назад
I’m going to do some soil testing in several areas this fall so I can start Spring off good next year. I’ve not had issues using the wood chips. The key is really to not incorporate it into the planting hole. There are several academic articles from universities online that discuss proper use of them and I’ve followed those. But, there are still those out there who claim it sucks nitrogen from the soil. I tend to lean toward expertly written university articles though.
