Today I removed the old steps from the IH 986 to Install a new step Kit to make getting in the tractor easier. I go step by step to put on the steps.....
Yea I’m constantly trying to make things easier on me. One thing I learned from working for other farmers, they probably wouldn’t have had to hire me if they just would make a few changes to make life easier. It’s amazing how some just enjoy making things difficult.
"and onto the next step" ha ha. looks nice! with the door off you could run across the shop and run up the steps! funny how little things can make life so nice!! the 4020 originally had a pad about 4" deep and 8" wide that you step on. nightmare. now with the big steps like you have its a dream!
I wish I had some down time. Those steps are awesome! I am glad we are getting rain, but it rains every two hours so it is hard to work outside. I will have to bring you a bunch of my misc. equipment to paint, because I hate painting!! lol
I was amused by his video also. I may look into the steps, and the gas shock for the door. I also saw the 1086 with the correct ways door! There is a RU-vid video, search 1086. Tractor Looking good man.
PA Farms lol yeah. The kit I bought came with hand rail don't think it was even an option without. You say you want less hay acers but with crop prices you may want more! Lol
I would do more hay but just can’t get help unloading. My dad helps but he had a heart scare a few months ago so I don’t want to push him, I tried getting some kids to help and after one wagon they were sitting in the car with the AC on, I did about 3K small squares and handled them all 3-4 times. Corn costs a lot to put in but it’s sold every year no questions asked. I still have 1,000 bales from last year.
nice I like that like you said need to figure a way to keep the door from beating you to death and get those shifters out of the way when your getting in and out and mybe find a good way to see your draw bar when you're hooking up stuff.
Ih answer to the seeing the draw bar from the seat was to mount a mirror in the back window an point it down to the draw bar never worked for me. and the next series out rhe 88 series they moved the shifters to the right side of the seat out of the way of getting in and out. Thank you for your videos.
I have a 1976 1486 ,I'm 73 yrs old don't have any trouble getting in and out of the cab. Also my doors have. Detents that hold in position until there closed. What is the problem?????
Well recently I had a guy tell me he just bought and installed a set for his dad after watching the video. His father just had both knees replaced and was having a hard time getting up and down. Now he loves the new steps and has an easier time. If for only that reason I would say I have no problem with the video.
Just saw your Instagram page of the rain. 🙁 it didn't look good of what I saw assuming that's the same ground you were planning to put radishes 🙁 just curious about your 986 did it have a fully enclosed cab at one time or was it like that when it left the factory?
Haha yea you’re right in the middle of the tractor. My fields are pretty smooth with no till, but I remember disking for the neighbor and had a pretty rough ride
I saw a 86 series that somebody changed the hinges around to make the door open suicide style. Still not that easy to get in and out, but better than 66 series.
