Creole is defined as “a mother tongue formed from the contact of two languages through an earlier pidgin stage.”
With that knowledge we present you with our brand new mini video series titled ‘Bahamian Creole 101.’ The purpose of this video project is to inform individuals who are outside of the culture on how to speak The Bahamian tongue which is heavily influenced by the English language. The other purpose is to eradicate the xenophobic dialogue surrounding the word “creole” for individuals who were born and raised into the culture.
We are back with the second part of the series titled “ii. Pronunciation.” In this installment we go over how the vowel sounds differ from American English. We also explore the merging of sounds and how English verbs are conjugated in Bahamian Creole.

Do yall say "I" for "auntie", ex: "I'm going to I'Martha house". We don't spell it like that, we just pronounce it that way.

We don't speak creole tho. It's Bahamian accent. Not Bahamian "creole"
@TheKincaidJournal
@TheKincaidJournal 2 года назад
Hello Crown, this is a conversation I have with many Bahamians. We are so conditioned to thinking that the common noun creole, is a proper noun, Creole and synonymous with only Haiti. "Creole" is defined as 1 of 2 things: "A mother tongue formed from the contact of two languages through an earlier pidgin stage eg "a Portuguese-based Creole." Therefore Bahamian Creole is a thing.

@TK we actually have no idea which creole he is referring to. It's actually quite likely he's referring to Cajun creole which I'd argue is more easily recognized by most people. Don't make assumptions like he did.

@@tamarmoss1289 that is literally the entire point of my comment. I know. I'm bahamian. You'd have to read the comment I was responding to as well as the comment before that in order to get the context... so yeah, obviously this video is bahamian creole... I wasn't talking about the video
