My family is white Bahamian and our accents are much stronger than Phil's. His accent sounds like the white Bahamians who went abroad for schooling or attended the private "international" schools in Nassau. You can hear more of the American and Canadian influence in his accent than you would with most people. But still definitely Bahamian!

About 5% ofr 20000 Bahamians are white...most are descendants of American Loyalists who emigrated there mostly from GA, and South Carolina with their slaves. They tried to do grow cotten.

My great-grandfather was born and grew up in the Bahamas before moving to the United States in around 1910. He had an English accent and was white. It seems that his family or before them moved to the Bahamas from the UK in Europe.

I used to hang in a pub with a mixed race Jamaican, who was fair skinned with blue eyes. Beyond wavy hair he looked fully white.

That's good he consider himself to be a Bahamian. His accent, is not of that from the Bahamas. He did mention he been there all his life, so that does not make him one by birth. Real white Bahamian accent would be a true, Bahamian accent.

My grandmother is born and raised in Nassau, but the extended family are from the island south (Long Island). Since you are Scandinavian, it might interest you that a prominent surname on Long Island, Turnquest, is actually the result of a Swede who settled on Long Island back in the 19th Century. I’m one of his descendants, as are many of the Bahamians with the Turnquest surname.

Hey Jaybird214. The Swede, Carl William Jonsson-Tornquist (Turnquest) who settled on Long Island, Bahamas is my g, g, g, great or 4th great grandfather on my mother's side. So, representing Swedish roots in The Bahamas as well !

Who is really 100% bahamian.. We all have family that migrated there..unless your a taino or arawak we all are directly or indirectly imported there..the bahamas has always been a melting pot of different immigrants.

Shehzad Chowdhury you do know that most people in The Bahamas is a descendant of immigrants. The British settlers came here and they brought there slaves. The Eleutheran Adventures were British settlers from Bermuda. It was until after slavery was abolished the British settled a lot of free slaves from America in The Bahamas. Btw most black Bahamians has at least 5-20% European ancestry particularly from Great Britain and Ireland. If you take a dna test it will not say you are 100% Bahamian because Bahamians are descendants of Immigrants.
