Mascha of ‪@musingsbymascha‬ came up with this idea to share our top five of each major arcanum in a dedicated video, airing every few weeks. I have begrudgingly stuck to choosing only five for... most of them, this one included. I’m timestamping below but avoiding spoilers. I have tried to include a mix of more and less traditional representations across the series, and to include imagery that I think lends something interesting to the interpretation of the card.
These are my current favourite Empresses:
02:06 a nature-inspired artist
04:20 a regal Queen Mother
07:18 an outdoor adventurer
10:04 a verdant landscape
11:37 many species of kin
You can find Mascha’s video introducing this series here: • Tarot Project 2024: #T...

The first one is so great like you say - creating and the various ways we do this in so many more ways than just giving birth a child. The way we give so much great nurturing to other creatures by sharing and creating art

The Queen Mother card is really beautiful, I have never seen that deck before! Thank you for sharing such thoughtful choices.

I loved this video from you so much, dear Laura! ♥ I so agree with everything you have said about Arcanum III cards depicting Empresses in their pre-natal state, - I also find those depictions limiting in many ways and triggering too. Oh, and this time around we share one of our Top Empresses in COMMON! 🥰 YES! The Empress as the person, who is well-versed in arts, who is depicted creating art and maybe who is even a patron of arts is my kind of Empress! Your selection of these cards is superb in my view! Loved them all.

💜I just watched your lovely video, I appreciate you mentioning this too. I find the Empress is a card that can almost 'make or break' the deck for me. I seldom feel neutral about it - I either love it or dislike it - but I love the archetype overall of course.

@@aquamarine18 same for me, Laura! Even though I have a few decks I like (minus the Empress cards), the Empress card has become a deal-breaker for me.. especially when I choose decks for reading for others. 🩷

I wish that there were more depictions of male or genderqueer Empresses, since people of any gender can embody any archetype. Trans men can also choose to get pregnant, and even not all pregnant cis women look like the "traditionally feminine" typical Empress depiction. I would've never pegged The Great Outdoors Empress as the Empress card! The person looks so serene and content being outside. Feels great. This is my sign to download the Naturescapes guidebook, because I had no idea that Empress photo was from Vietnam! It's a beeeautiful card to get lost in. True about not having enough cards depicting the *creation* side of the Empress. I didn't think of that before. Pregnancy can symbolize the building and budding, but it'd be nice to see the *active* traits, the creating and curating process. Super great insights, Laura!!

💜I want that too - all the diverse experiences of pregnancy and all the diverse Empresses (and every card, really - if the tarot is archetypal, or 78 facets of life, then I think we should all get to be on ALL the cards).

Ooh you are so right! Why don’t we have more Empresses making art 🤔

Right?! 💜 It seems like an obvious choice to me - creativity, maybe using natural materials like basketweaving or mixing plant-based paints or something.
