@@halohalohikers3571 yep, I've seen them, but they are all too expensive and too bulky. I'm looking for something more low profile that sits behind the bumper.
Very nice content and review. I'm not a fan of roof top tents. I found it nicer to use my Kodiak truck tent. I use my tent for all four seasons and never had a leak. I like the ability to stand in my tent to change or just stretch. it takes my son and I about 7 minutes to set up our tent and trifold cots to sleep on. My rig is a 2021 Silverado crew cab RST Z71 4x4.
Maybe getting off the ground in Yellowstone is worth setting up and breaking camp daily. Not saying it's a guarantee for not ending up as bear food, but maybe the animal moves on to something easier.
Great information and walk through video. If I may add, as a two-time owner of the iKamper RTT's, after buying an iKamper the iKamper Company distances itself from any major problems or issues you may have with your RTT. The customer service is ONLY via email. There is no CRM - period. There is no service center department to call and speak with anyone from the iKamper company itself. I just ordered my second RTT from them ( my first experience was great by the way) and they lost it during the shipping. I called the shipping company and am trying my best to locate my iKamper RTT. I just want people to know that although influencers are my people, iKamper is not straight up honest. They will leave you on the hook for your $$$ spent. They got theirs.
Great video! I’m thinking of getting into overlanding. Might be a while before I get a rooftop tent though. Can you make a gear video of everything you take on a trip?
Iron Paws yes! It is the perfect time to get into it, it’s an easy way to social distance. I’ll be making a gear list soon, but there’s still a few things I want to add to my kit.
Good video man! I have been trying to figure out whether or not we should do a RV/camper van or a RTT when we get back from the states. This helped me a lot! Thank you! Cheeers - Pat from Montana
@@halohalohikers3571 I got a response back from iKamper this morning. They said no it doesn't. 😞 On the other hand they also said they couldn't "confirm" that the 2.0 fits the 1.0 shell, so maybe that "no" was more of a liability avoidance answer.
It could work for a few years since they are all under 4. Think of it as a king size mattress. If you can fit all 6 of you on that king size at home, then you can fit in the tent. It will get cramped eventually, I think this is an expensive tent if your only going to be able to use it one or two years. There are cheaper king size tents out there...
Ugly mug😅, 🙏thank you so much for this video🍁. Brother it was very helpful, my wife is 5’4 and she enjoyed watching it very much. May God bless your beautiful family. Stay safe.
Each rack is different. I don’t think Putco makes one like mine for a Tacoma. Look up a RU-vidr named “last line of defense”, he has a tacoma build a few years ago where he has a backflip bed cover and a bed rack system. He will be a good resource for your tacoma build.
any data on MPG drop with the setup? I wish putco made a low profile version of the venture tec. I also run a rollup tonneau cover so need the stake bed mount and cant find anyone else who makes one for the silverado 1500, at least not 19-22. but assume the hardcover RTT probably does a bit better than the soft covers.
Hi we are from Luxemburg ( The very smal tiny Country in the Middle of Europe on IKampers Map :-)) We ordered a Skycamp 2.0 too funny is my Wife is Filipina too :-). Have fun guys :-) Great Video
If you wife (who doesn't look like she's 5'8") can set this up on top of a huge pickup truck while it's pretty windy, that's a well designed tent. These things are pricey but all the reviews I've seen: their owners swear by their reliability and design. If this stupid scamdemic ends, I'll try to pick up one of these. Yeah, it's going to be hard on the bank but it would be perfect on top of a tiny trailer. I like that you have a raised frame. I might consider something like that to squeeze more room out of the trailer. Just so many decisions here. The biggest problem is finding out how to hitch the trailer to a VW Golf with a turbo engine. On the other hand, this is why a stick shift isn't bad, you can skip around gears and force the transmission to stay in 2nd or 3rd while coasting down short hills.
I bought the same one as yours with a similar mid height bed rack. Mine hangs off the end slightly more than yours. Have you ever had an issue with this?
Haha it is what it is! Luckily there’s still decent people out there, the dude pulled me out no prob. I since then got even more gear to try and get stuck with, including a winch...
I just bough the ikamper and have the Putco rack. Where did you get the mounting brackets that work with the venture tec rack? Did ikamper send them to you?
No issues. Personally liked the aesthetics of it with the thicker part not hanging over the rear. Also I prefer the weight in the center of the truck instead of hanging over.
I like the hard cover. Probably is quieter and cuts through the air better at high speeds. You didn't mention how it is in the rain. Any leaks or other issues with the rain fly?
The mini is too small for a full sized truck (tundra, f150, silverado) and the 2.0 is too big (made for Jeep’s and SUV’s.) would be nice if they made something that fit a full sized truck.. can’t believe they haven’t done this yet..
For my family of four we needed the biggest size possible. I wouldn’t mind If there was a way to make the dimensions smaller when it was closed. There’s about 8 inches that sticks out past my tailgate.
I’ve seen guys with roof racks that put the extra overhang in front of the bed (a couple feet over the cab) which requires you finding a taller mount rack system.
Love this setup. I also have a Trail Boss, Putco rack, and iKamper Skycamp 2.0. Do you have any detailed pictures of how you mounted the tent to the rack? I struggled with this yesterday and ended up using some flat stock in the tent mounting channel to extend it and get over the front putco cross bar.
I don’t have pics readily available at the moment, but FYI, I did have to use the 1.0 mounting brackets from ikamper and then purchased longer bolts from the hardware store. The cross rails on the Putco rack are thick! I think that’s why they have a heavier payload then other racks.
Hey brother, do you have a link to the tent you bought? My girl is begging me to get one and we came across your channel and love your vids! Keep going strong bro!
@@halohalohikers3571 The mechanicals are all fine. Just the canvas material. The seams have some sort of industrial strength tape covering them on the inside that has started to delaminate exposing the seams. It’s unfortunate that you can’t post photos in the comments section. :-(
@@JeepTJay6 I see they do sell an insulation tent for $299.00 that fits on the inside to an an extra layer during the colder seasons. Maybe that could be a good option for you.
No problems, it’s sort of personal preference. The aerodynamics would be slightly better if it was the other way around. But, I just like how it looked closed better this way since I have a little bit of overhang.
Came across your video. Thanks. Probably one of the best reviews. It was good to actually see the inside and with people in It. Can you mount anything on the shell?
@@halohalohikers3571 just figured this out haha. How did you mount it near the cab? My bars are pretty close to the cab and the rails don’t go far enough to allow me to have space to run the 1.0 brackets once I receive them. Thanks for the info man.
@@OneLowPony it is a tight fit, but I just tightened down the bracket really tight and the tent doesn’t move it all. Also I see now that Putco sells an additional crossbar you can place in the middle for the added support and mounting access.
@@halohalohikers3571 haha I actually have 2 of the extra crossbars. It came with it when I bought the bed rack off Amazon. Just didn’t come with the “coretec” mounting plates that I would need to make it work. I think that’s the best way to do it. I appreciate all your help. My truck literally looks likes your twin, but in black lol.
Nice video man, thanks for sharing. I have a Trailboss too and have an iKamper 2.0 ordered. I ended up going with the Yakima Overland HD rack, but your rack is sick...if I would have known about the one you have I would have gone that route. Do you have any tent light recommendations?
