The ikea called a hack is cause you buy storage and counter top to make a fancy desk. But this is just buying an up and down desk, and where even the hack part is?
the "hack" is that if you purchased this altogether like a lot of companies advertise (tabletop+standing desk) it would cost you anywhere from $5-700 and its much shorter. if you get it from ikea you get a much wider "kitchen" countertop for only $80-100 and buy yourself a standing desk frame seperately for around $200, screw the two together and bam you got yourself a nice desk for around $300.
Desks that you can order online that have a nice quality table top and standing desk legs are expensive. Ikea table top max $100 and ebay standing desk legs for under $100 can save you $~100 in total. Plus you get to choose from a variety of table tops anywhere or just build one.
Sure, it looks better but you're missing out on the storage from the draws. OK you could just put the draws elsewhere, however not everyone will have the space.
i was a ikea desk use long before it was cool. when it became cool i sold it and switch to a standing desk i built. solid butcher block counter tops i sanded stained and sealed. got a 250 lbs support standing desk legs and 100% invisible cable compartment underneath and a cable track.
@Snapion__ sure. As with all products ikea has 3 different ranges price wise, low med and high. The mitzon, bekant is another, gladhojden, idasen, uppsel, bollisdan, and I can't remeber anymore off the top of my head.
The alex drawers are literally in the “legs” section on ikea. Lol putting a tabletop on Alex drawers isn’t a hack you’re just using them for their intended purpose.
Don’t believe the cap! Autonomous is the WORST standing desk and legs I’ve ever used. If you want to save a few hundred, try Flexispot or Woka. If money isn’t an issue try Omni Desk or Ergonofis
