Very cool, I was kindly directed to this video and it's a terrific solution if I can reproduce it locally. As you mention the shelves themselves would seem the biggest hurdle but you generate so much more display space for lighter items...
It seems crazy they don’t sell spare shelves. I got a cabinet for free but it’s missing all 3 original shelves. Good idea for adding extra ones though, gunna have to to try it out (if I can even get any, lol).
Derrick, how are you? I was browsing on RU-vid and saw your name but I wasn't sure if it's you Lol.......same old same old you're doing tutorial stuff Mr. McGyver Lol
That's basically what I'm using here. As for shelves, you can try going to the IKEA and seeing if they have any spare ones. I got all my extra shelves for free by asking someone in the scratch and dent section.
Four years after you've made this video, how are the clamps holding up? I want to add a few more shelves to my cabinet, but really worry about them coming loose one day and causing damage to my Game Boy collection. I almost never touch the contents, am always careful around the cabinet, and my collection is relatively lightweight, but I just don't want it to slip gradually over time, then completely fail one day..
was it hard to tighten those wire clamps on the metal pole bar? Does it damage and could cause to break while tightening it due to it being too close to the glass side panels. Do they loosen up over time?
It was easy to tighten the clamps and they will not damage the pole. You just need to tighten them enough that they won't move, then maybe an 1/8 turn after that. I haven't had to touch them since installing them.
