I built this bed over the course of an evening, by myself while 8 months pregant. Not joking. Everyone else was moving our stuff from the old house to our new house...I couldn't do heavy lifting, but I could build this bed. Love it. Now I'm about to disassemble to move into a different bedroom...which honestly seems scarier than when I first put it together. I'm using this video to work backwards. Thankfully, I think all I really need to do is remove the slats and take apart the main body of it. The drawers can just be removed and the sliding part can prob be moved as is. thanks for the video.
like the way the instructions start with the top half yet the video starts with the bottom, also love the fact the trundle slats have already been assembled, for you look at the instructions this bit is a clear as mud.
@@CraigTulloch the trundle slats were boring because there's so many of them but it was the easiest. This is my third time reassembling and, for the life of me, I still can't figure out the stupid drawer slidey-things.
You can’t be here by simple curiosity, if you are here, that means you have a mental breakdown because of a stupid bed you can’t build yourself. So don’t be sad, we are all the same here
Took me 4:30 to unpack and build it. Did not have a drill though and did not watch this video (wouldn't have sped up the process anyway I think). Had to do it on my own which cost me a lot of time when turning the bed around and carefully pushing it into the right direction etc. I am sure it can easily be done in less than 2 hours if two people do it together and have one person work on the frame (Step 1-13) and the other one on the rest (Step 14-30 and Step 31-end).... in which case two screwdrivers would be needed at the same time.
no, my friend's son fixed it. thank you very much for replying. it was just the wood pieces not matching up. he is super tall and I'm only 5 feet. he lifted up the bed wood slats part and it all suddenly worked. I'm just too short to reach that part lol
i guess Im asking randomly but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Brayan Emmett I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
I have bought that same exact bed but mine is a single bed that turns in a king bed. Perfect for sleep overs since you can just make it into a king bed when it's time to sleep 😴 you can also put pillows on all the sides of the bed :)
My advice to anyone watching this video with hope that it will help you "build" the bed is to turn up the music and USE THE MANUAL it came with! This bed will take 3 hours minimum to build and having a helper is highly recommended. Ikea, if you are watching, the instructions on how to install the rails to the drawers was nearly impossible to figure out. I had to build the drawers first and install the rails on the drawers before I had a clue how the other rails attached to the roller assembly.. Luckily you can skip this process until later.
yes!! i have this bed and it is amazing!! i love it. i would really recommend this to everyone plus it is so pretty to look at!! hope this helped you decide!! bye!!
Thank you for the video ! Does anyone have squeaky sounds when sleeps on this daybed ? For ours, the squeaky sound only comes from the headboard side . I wonder how to fix it ..
At 4:07 ours did not match up so easily our holes were in the wrong place. The metal bit should be at the top when trying to match it together. We figured that out now.
Sorry to hear you are having trouble! The pull-out bed should slide back into the frame. If the bed is on a thick carpet this could make it difficult to slide. Also, please make sure the bed wasn’t pulled completely out that it came off from under the main frame.
Need to move this bed from one room to another. Is there anyway to just detach the headboard (on the 3 sides) instead of taking the entire bed apart? Looking for some help. Thank you!
I have just built this for TaskRabbit in a tiny studio flat, and building the part that slides out first and the main structure later on is super stupid. We had to lift the second part built over the other one, leave it there like a Picasso sculpture, pull the whole thing and then lift again and push it against the wall. some parts got scratched and luckily my client didn't mind, but I would have been super annoyed. You should definitely invert the order of assembly, because it doesn't work in tiny spaces where you want to put the main structure in place first and then add the bottom sliding part.
At 1:13 you wrote "Ridged side of rail faces down" when attaching the first rail to the back board. Then at 1:36 you wrote "Ridged side of rail faces down" when attaching the second rail to the drawer board. The way you positioned it in the video, the instruction for the second rail should read "Ridged side of rail faces up". In the manual, both rails are facing down, however the drawer board is upside down, as opposed to the video. In reality, when set on the wheels, the back rail ridge should be facing up and the drawer rail ridge should be facing down. Conclusion: just follow the manual.
Hello, I would like to use the second frame as a standalone bed (not attached to the main one). Can I use them that way or need to be attached to each other all the time?
Were you able to make it work? My guess is that they have to be used together, else, the “sofa” part won’t be able to properly support the weight of the people who will sit on it.
IKEA, can I use two 6-inch mattresses instead? Am I gonna have any issues with height? When pulled out, what sheet size do you recommend for a tight fit?
I was searching for an video instruction of the BRIMNES daybed. I was having an issue with the wooden panels. But looking at it, the setup appears the same. I thought it was wrong that one side went on top of the metal bar and the other side went underneath the metal bar.
Hi oreomon, thanks for reaching out! If you still need help with assembly, please send us a private message on our IKEA USA Facebook page. We’d be happy to help!
We recently purchased a HEMNES 3 drawer daybed from our local IKEA along with two FONNES mattresses they recommended and displayed alongside. We used the directions and viewed the video. Despite this we are having issues closing the trundle. It impossible to close without lifting the top part. Some of the bottom slats butt up against the metal cross piece. The room is not carpeted and we double checked the assembly. Help!
Sorry to hear that assembly is causing you trouble. We’d love to help you put your IKEA purchase together & have it look great! If you want more help with this, please contact us at social@ushelp.ikea.com or call our customer service number, 1-800-434-IKEA (4532). We hope this helps - thanks!
Hi Tiffany, great question! We suggest having a rug or carpet underneath your workspace for a smoother assembly and so it’s easier to move to the space you want. Hope this helps!
I'm assembling one right now but got confused about the metal rails that go onto the blocks with wheels: they are there in the instructions but not in the video. (I only watched the part of bed assembly I'm making now) I thought I should have one set of rails for each block... Maybe it was taking a time off to watch the video but I have figured it out now, it was one of those hello common sense moments. Anyway, if you expect the video to make a sense of current instructions you'll be disappointed. (And by the way, it IS possible to make this by oneself, although it took me 1/2 hour to figure it out... I have made all sorts of Ikea furniture and never had to ask for help, but I recommend two people for this one to cut down swearing.
Please please please answer this. Did the bed slates come with the bed or do you have to buy them separately? Did you have to put the slates on yourself or was it already ready and you just had to put it on? Please answer 😩 Also do you think it would be the same for the UK?
I have the newer (Dark Grey) Hemnes daybed. And the slats came with the bed but in a separate box. Yes, you have to put the slats on yourself. Its the biggest pain in the butt! That's why I'm on here watching this step in slow motion.
I built this bed like a year ago and I had to move rooms but the bed was to big so my mom tried to help by disassembling it but she got mad and destroyed it so now I have no bed :) while I had it it was nice though
ShobogenzoX no the bed is actually same leveled. you have probably has made the mistake by making it. it happened with me too and literally after few Days i realized it and solve it
Are you talking about the slats? It just feels they are not level when you are making it, because one end goes OVER and one end goes UNDER the metal rail. That is, on the big frame that is made with the back and side panels.
Claptrap Claptrap I made this bed today and I thought it wasn’t supposed to be that way, since it wasn’t level so I literally took an hour trying to figure out what was wrong, even unscrewed it, but turned out nothing was wrong and it was supposed to look that way. -_- Big thanks to IKEA for taking the time to clarify that.
Hello! I just wanted to ask how long exactly is Hemnes bed? IKEA website says 2 meters long, some other website - 206cm so I'm a little bit confused. I would like to know exact lenght because I don't know if it's gonna fit in my bedroom :( Is the Brimnes bed (the one for one person that you can extend) the same lenght?
Hi Sylwia, thanks for reaching out! Our HEMNES daybed measures at 78 3/4" (200 cm) for length. Please feel free to send us any further questions via private message on the IKEA USA Facebook page. Hope this helps!
@@garbagehaul8584 Just put both on the same way you would do with foam mattress. It's only a little bit higher compared to regular foam mattresses (not the thin child mattresses).
Hello there. I have a question. I'd like buy this bed from IKEA but I'm not sure my mattress would work with it. I have a Mordegal twin Mattress and one Minnesund Mattress. Could I use my existent mattresses?
I've made this bed 3 times (took apart when moving and put together again) and had no problems. Are you sure you got the right rails right way round? It's not dead easy to figure it out from the picture, the pieces are so similar.
It's supposed to be like that. Once the drawer part is underneath it will be level. If not, check your assembly, this is not as easy to do as a bookshelf.
can you tell me what type of nails are used for the bed specifically plz and also can you tell me the name and size of the metal strip? cuz i lost it and i need to go buy them
Just moved and the metal brace (front of the bed top area) that connects the two side pieces to the bedframe together got lost. Does anyone know where I can buy a new part? Or is there way to replace it.
Could you by any chance make a Brimnes bed tutorial, the one with storage on both sides. I'm thinking about getting it, but I want an idea about the assembly and what to expect. Thanks
Bailey Gonsalves This isn't a tutorial, but here's a family building one, it's similar to the hemnes, just the drawers are a little different.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qlm8dxgCvU4.html
Is there any plan to offer this product in a different color, instead of white? This product is perfect for our place but a "natural wood" brown would look a lot better with what we have in the room.
Hello Michael, thanks for your question! Currently, we don't have any new colors in the works for the HEMNES daybed, but we're always making changes and updating our products, so stay tuned w/ us for all of the latest updates!
We cannot get the trundle bed to shut after using it. Please explain how to shut the trundle bed after it has been opened when it is not shutting properly and there is no visible or logical reason for it not to shut.

two notes: my wife loves this thing....but im the one that has to build it....i HATE this thing...dont get me wrong im not bitching about ikea stuff... most of their stuff i really like and putting together isnt too hard, but this thing is a pain in the arse. #2). i actually really dig the song that plays in the background...just wanted to say...
I have one of these beds and I am moving soon ,would it be better to remove the wood slates before moving so it would not be sooo heavy ? it just seems to be really heavy.
Hi Roslyn! We'd suggest removing the slats when moving if it becomes too heavy to lift & so the stability of the product won't be compromised. Hope this helps!
ikea i love this bed but i am wondering if you have any tips on how or what parts to disassemble so we can move it to a new house? Any advice appreciated it was a killer to build and don't want to completely disassemble.
Hi SorcerersApprentice55! The mattresses are sold separately from our HEMNES daybed. We suggest using our MINNESUND foam mattress for a comfortable fit! Hope this helps!
