Ikigai is an ancient Japanese word meaning something like your reason for living. Finding your ikigai is understanding what makes you get out of bed every morning.
To meet this purpose, you must follow a five-step roadmap that will require a good deal of self-awareness.

I enjoying gardening. I enjoying being alone, drinking coffee in the morning, walking along the edge of the bay at sunrise. I enjoy being quiet. I enjoy living simply. I enjoy taking care of my body without obsessing about it. I enjoy sleeping. I appreciate my life and all the lives that weave with mine. I bow to all living things, and everything is living. No one seems to want to give me money for doing the things that I enjoy, that fulfill me. I do enjoying having money. Money is useful, but for me, doing what fulfills me doesn't create income.

It really works this way, believe me. I did it. It took me 15 years from the moment I had realized what I really wanted to do in life. I was 31 at that time with two little sons, a husband and a part time job that was exhausting. I had to change my qualifications (three years of study), change my work, get a lot of experience. Finally, I teach English in my little home town in Poland. I've got a lot of self-made flashcards and grammar cards, second hand desks and chairs for my students and I'm happy. It wasn't easy, but it was worth doing it. A year ago I read a book about Ikigai and I thought I was on a right path. Now, even my two grown up sons are looking at me in a different way! Good luck everybody! Be strong! Don't give up! Renata

No, marriage itself will not bring happiness. In fact, the apostle Paul directly said one would reap tribulation if they married! After all, you put two imperfect people together like that, difficulties are inevitable. What brings happiness through marriage is having a partner who is willing to put forth the effort to MAKE it enjoyable. When both husband and wife put their focus on the other instead of themselves, their wants, feelings and desires, that's when happiness comes. The only reason you find happiness being single is due to there being no one else to focus on but you, which is rather self centred. Just like marriage, singleness isn't guaranteed to bring happiness either. I've been single for 13 years now, after my wife cheated on me, and I've all but withered away inside and became a social recluse. In fact, I've ended up with a rather nihilistic view on life...which is why this video caught my attention in the first place.

I was a hardworking person who had huge goals......I always tried sooo hard to gain things I wanted. I never liked when others are doing what a Wanted....I think I was burning with jealousy & it gradually increased.......I was craving a lot...I punished myself for being weak...making mistakes I was running towards a mirage & finally messed up my exam as well. I trusted and liked people admired me..........I was addicted to admiration. It was miserable when others did not appreciate me for what I did....Rather than doing my work I was seeking admiration....I was dreaming about how I will act when I get something .Unknowingly I was destroying myself bit by bit. I think I was depressed.....I was angry with everyone including myself. I was blaming me and others . I gave up everything almost everything. I felt dead inside. My dream was to become a Neurosurgeon. I felt like I just showed off in Everything I did . I felt like I was maintaining a fake image all the times. I was feeling miserable. Racing thoughts was the worst. I could not focus .I finally decided to take a break. 1.I wrote everything down when I felt low. 2.I wrote all the stuff in negative form. 3.For about month I was writing things when I felt jealous, angry & depressed. 4.I slept a lot. 5.Watched videos to heal myself. Commenting was also a great therapy. 6.I tried doing different things.....Origami, cartoons, cooking etc. 7.I tried meditation. 8.I stopped dreaming......totally whenever I go to future or past my brain warns me now. I also say to myself "it Is FAKE" when I imagine things and act like that . 9.I stopped working to schedules. 10.Watched few Christmas movies. Now i am feeling better....better than ever.......I am my Boss now. Now I donot seek for opinions. Slowly reach to small goals ................. I climbed up from the lowest............SO ANYONE can do that Thanks a lot for Ikagai It was the blinker that I was doing the right thing.

I think that when one is depressed or recovering from burnout in my case, its hard to think of what gives you joy, as your brain lies to you. What I've found helpful is focusing on the things that I value, they may not make me happy happy, but doing and working on what I value brings real profound emotional returns. eg, being of service to my aging mother, i brings me peace...and eventually, a quiet joy. I wrote about my experience on medium, asimplerwaywithm , you may find it helpful, check it out.

I hope you're doing better now, I completely burnt out and ended up in hospital and it totally transformed my way of thinking. I no longer live to work, and I don't feel as easily guilt tripped into working unpaid overtime and at weekends. If you aren't finding any joy even in your hobbies you might be depressed? It might be worth speaking to a doctor or a therapist if you can afford one ❤️

Ikigai. It is a Buddhist way of living. When you put Buddhism into your life wonderful new opportunities will be opened to you
@rossy3lo
@rossy3lo 3 года назад
Nope, nope. Ikigai is more Zen than Buddhist. I know because I'm Buddhist. Buddhism is about enlightenment, meditation, living simply, discipline, practice of your mind n celibacy NOT start small, find your joy, find harmony, find money.. although the living here n now IS Buddhism. Buddhism is more about simple n discipline life, free from material want or desire. While Ikigai is about harmonizing your skill with your desire in life including all the material things. Essentially Buddhism n Ikigai are two completely different things.
@user-lw8dr6xx8i
@user-lw8dr6xx8i 3 года назад
@@rossy3lo No. I am Buddhist whole life. You only know one type Zen. In fact Zen is a part of Buddhism.. Don't have to be celibate poor monk to practice Buddhism. There's many other kinds of Buddhism over 2500 years. Even in Zen there's differences. Many other Buddhists find enlightenment through daily mundane experiences, pursuing joys of human life, not denial of desire. Buddhism is not narrow. Its wide inclusive.

I'm not quite where I want to be in the grander picture but I'm at least now in the same ballpark and not totally lost. It may be good for some to know it doesn't happen overnight necessarily but there are times when the shift happens and you feel an uplifting calm in the air that blooms joy within. That's how you know you're doing the right thing. It can happen no matter how dead inside you feel.

All I want is to spend time in the sun and smell the fresh air, but I can’t kick my old habit of sleeping at 5am and waking up in the afternoon. Yes, I enjoyed listening to you very much. I'm 73 years old and on looking back I seem to have found many ikigais throughout my life (is that even possible?). I would daydream in my youth about attaining some goal or other and then go about finding out how to accomplish it. The fun part was actually in the daily planning of it (I guess being in the now). Later on in life ikigai found ME (is that even possible?). I 'accidentally' immersed myself in several aspects of the medical profession(s) finding out in the end that it was apparently my true calling. It was however as you pointed out, the little moments of pondering and planning that added up to greater achievements. Having lived a full life, I now find myself equally enjoying the quieter things in life. It IS possible to follow your bliss, but it sometimes means having to go it alone.🌹

The real problem today is that too many young people don't have any motive, any will, any goal. Too many are depressed and can't even express any goal. As a teacher I see this alot. I think the question of harmony and living in the moment, is important, not "happiness".

I kept thinking about the metaphor of a christmas ornament and a fully decorated tree. Those small wins we have, like the transportation you were relying on came on time, or doing a load of jeans reach in a pocket a benjamin, the little ornaments in our lives, but then to step back and see your christmas trees and all the beautiful ornaments is quite breath taking. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and if applicable, Happy Birthday

You explained the present moment and wanting more. Very well. Thank you another way Eckhart Tolle explains it. Sometimes someone saying another way makes it click.

I found my ikigai when I realized i do t necessarily need to see my results showing up as physical manifestations, but sometimes it’s more subtle than that. Sometimes I feel transformed from the inside by a new personal habit I’ve been practicing. Eventually it does affect my life for the better, it’s all about patience. The important this is that no one else can measure your ikigai but you.

The meaning of life is that everyone must choose, not find, the answer to that question for themselves.

@@san_diegan69diegan27 You can't find the meaning of life, you have to choose it for yourself.

@@san_diegan69diegan27 Kaiser is correct.. we must choose for ourselves what we want to do... every moment you have the power to choose what you want to do. If you’re not sure between say a couple of options, choose the one that “feels better”.. when you do that, you will be steered in the most-aligned direction for yourself... don’t give your own power away by having someone else choose for you... ✨🙏🏻✨
