For those new to Straight and Safety Razor Wet Shaving, Here is a description of how it's done:
STRAIGHT RAZOR SHAVING. HOW TO PERFORM A shave using a Straight Razor, Badger Brush, and Shaving Cream or Soap From a Tub.
A) Shower with Hot Water & Wash Beard with Soap
B) Soak Badger Brush in Cup of Hot Water for 2 Minutes
C) Fill Sink with Hot Water
D) Apply shaving cream to Tips of Badger Brush
E) Mix lather from a tub or tube in a bowl
F) Apply Hot Water to Beard/Do Not Dry Off
G) Apply Shaving Cream or Shaving Soap to Beard
H) Very Gently apply the razor to your face at a 30 degree angle.
1) First Pass Straight Down With The Grain
2) Second Pass From Ear to Nose Across The Grain
3) Third Pass: From Nose to Ear with a Slight Upward Motion.
Or, if you prefer/South to North against the grain
4) Rinse with Hot then Cold Water.
5) Apply Your Favorite After Shave Lotion or Cream/Preferably Alcohol Free.
6) Now You're Ready to Conquer the World!!!!!

Great demo GFB. Glad you had a good growth of whiskers to test this one. I have 40+ DE razors and the Ikon X3 is in my top five favorites. I do, however, prefer the Ikon SE (Special Edition) handle. I have a few other slants and for some reason I do not find them aggressive. They are among the smoothest shaving razors I own.

Hey geo just wanted to let you know a year ago I wanted to save money on shaving and my dad always shaved with a super speed and has passed 10 years now so wanted to get into wet shaving and you were the first videos iv seen and always watch. I have since become big on DE shaving and have got big collection of new and vintage lol kinda big hobby now :) iv bot many friends into wet shaving even my 14 year old nephew who just started and loves it. So keep up the good work bud.

Just got home from work to find a ShaveNation box at my door with an iKon slant inside. It is indeed a beautiful thing, I can hardly wait to try it out! I kept getting little cuts under my chin from the blade side tabs sticking beyond the sides of my 37c, but I see that the ikon head is long enough that this wont happen anymore - bonus!

Geo, definitely understand your point of why shaving everyday - some of us have to do it for work, however I am way less irritated with my Gillette fatboy than Fusion! Secondly, certainly want to practice with a milder safety razor no doubt!

My fav de razors are as follows 1.edwin jagger 89 bl 2.slant bar 39 c 3.parker 22c 4.gillette fatboy e1 adjustable 5.merkur 23c. Blades are gillette yellow 7 o clock Big ben/astra platinum Shark Personna isl Derby (very hit and miss so sharp and some blunt in pack). Whats your favourite guys????

hey geo, i now have my straight razor and it is going to be my first time using it very soon but y concern is i want to keep my chin hair but idk how i am going to cut the hairs that are close to my chin hair. They say i should go the direction where my hair is going and i dont want to go horizontal near my chin hair (if thats not what you're supposed to do lol) or do i just go as close as i can to my chin hair and continue to go vertical?

Hello, I've watched several of your videos and I really enjoy them. Whether you're reviewing a safety or straight razor every video is top notch. My question has to do with African American skin and shaving. As a African American male I often find it difficult to get a good shave with the products on the market. This usually results in bumps and ingrown hairs which get infected and scar my skin. My grandfather used a safety razor and I remember watching him in awe as a child. I wanna make the change but I don't know where to go I terms of entry brands. Could you offer any suggestions for your viewers of color with curly hair. I know it's a huge request but any help would be greatly appreciated. Love what your doing, thanks a bunch!

Yes yes of course lol he is so use to straight razor and safety razor would make for am interesting video I think. He does mention drawbacks to cartridge shaving vs. Wet shaving so I think would be interesting to hear his thought on what majority of the population uses to shave. Canned cream vs. Soaps and creams and D.E vs. 3 & 5 blade cartridges. Hey just think would be good video.

I thought the choice of a Feather blade was quite bold. How does it compare to the Merkur 39c? I'm quite curious. I've found the 39c to be incredibly aggressive and somewhat unforgiving.

Hi Geo, I've been shaving with my Fatboy and Arko soap for about a year now and I seem to have the 'no pressure' thing pretty well sorted. I am finding I have a pretty tough beard and prefer to use Feather and Astra blades. These really only last for a couple of shaves. Do you think I'm ready for a straight?

I say guys that know wet shaving and use cartridges don't know what they missing. I use to dread shaving now I love it. Hey geo for a fun video shave with a mach 3 or fusion lol even shaving can on a few days throwth. Would be funny to hear your thoughts :)

Great video. Wanted to know if you've tried MD barbers Black dragon shavette? They're charging $45 dollars for a shavette that uses half a DE blade. Curious if its worth the money and if it gives a great shave. If possible you could do a review. Thanks for all the great vids.

Hey, I was wondering.. What would you recommend as a "starter kit" for a newbie? I want to stop shaving with a Mach 5 or whatever they're called cartridge razors and that nasty canned shaving cream.. it really irritates my face, and gives me razor burn. Is there a cheap but good starter razor, soap, and brush you would recommend? Sorry if this is already answered somewhere.

shake more water out of the brush when you are ready to swirl it in your soap or cream. then add a little more soap or cream next time around. you can always add more water to your mixture.

A Muhle R89, or Edwin Jagger DE89, is really brilliant beginner razors!!! Don't overpay your brush, Badger vs Boar vs Horse vs Synthetic, is all about preference, starting with a Badger, will be your most expensive option! A 20$ Boar, can do the same as a 200$ Badger, so don't start out too hard! Soap or Cream, doesn't matter, go with perhaps both, and feel the difference!!! :)

I don't find my slant bars to be any more aggressive than a straight bar DE. If you are new to DE shaving, don't be scared away from trying one of these. Many folks find this razor to be relatively mild.

i have a edwin jagger de89 i brought from you and i tried different razors in it and i cant get it really give me a clean shave like your first line you did with this razor and you got a good amount of hair off when i do that with mine it looks like i never touch my face just the shaving cream is gone i am washing face and holding razor at a 30 degree angle and help or should i try something like this ?

You're probably not using either the proper technique, not preparing the skin properly or use blades that do not fit you (or just bad blades). I'm still a beginner with safety razors but I got to a point where I can get a good shave because I prepare my face accordingly and have found the blades that suits me the best. What blades are you using? If you tried several brands which ones? What is your pre-shaving routine?

I am fairly new to DE, and for me my EJ89 and I always get a good from it. Also, if you are not using quality blades that will make a difference as well. Use a facial scrub, warm water, build up to hot. Use a face cloth, it will assist you in getting that clean shave.

I will say Michael, I was very disappointed with the way the blade post are undersized, which in turn make the blade wobbly. I had posted pictures of the top cap comparing it to two other heads, the FaTip and Merkur 37C. You can see the picture on my Google Plus page in my iKon Slant Album.

Why does a razor that looks to be extremely well made and cost so much, miss the boat with the blade alignment? I've not seen that on any razor at any price? Will they go back and re-engineer this flaw? I'd like to buy one, but not with that problem, until they fix that!!
