french Tempest Ace Pierre Closterman recounts in his book "The Great Circus" that a Spitfire actually managed to shoot down an intruding low-flying Arado Ar-234 flying below, putting his Spitfire in a steep dive. Afterwards the Spitfire was battered, with popped rivets on the wings, but did much to boost the Spitfire side in the friendly rivalry beetween Spitfire and Tempest pilots, Spit pilots joking, that''s something you've never been able to achieve with your lead sleds (meaning the Tempests). Another good-natured joke was that the landing speed of the Tempest was higher than the cruising speed of the Spitfire :)
IL-2 battle of britain would be great taff as i have been interested in the battle of britain for years :0) love the tempest and typhoon as they are the bigger brothers of the hurricane and i love the hurricane :0)
I agree plus as one who has played cliffs of dover the damage models very interesting. The canvas like skin of the birds acrually looks to tear dynamically and the game as interesting fire graphics too.
Personally if i was an englishman i feel id really connect with cliffs of dover best because of the obvious and i enjoy seein taff really get into either a one off or a series
I've said it before, the more i look/watch this aircraft.....she's a grower.....yea ....she not a bad looking aircraft and when you see the pilot you really get a sense of the scale ...one big pretty girl.
Very fun. Though in real life the Tempests were forbidden to go near the Luftwaffe airfields because of the incredibly heavy flak. They even had flak lanes leading to the runways to protect the Me262s landing and taking off. Scary flak!
@James Henderson. Interesting to hear that; I know tale of a squad of P-47's that tried to attacking & strafing a German air-field. Out of about 8 planes only 1 made it back. The pilot of that sole surviving plane, then stood up & emptied an entire clip from his 1911 into his seat!.. The P-47's had it rough due how Air Command used them as 'front-line shock-troops'
The absence of flak in this video is a complete fantasy compared to the reality of what pilots faced when strafing German airfields. Even if surprise was achieved in the initial pass, you'd pray that you were the first or second plane going in. Going back for another pass was almost suicidal. That was doubly true for the home fields for the ME-262. If I remember correctly, 8th Fighter Command after D-Day lost 3 out of 4 aircraft to ground fire vs aerial combat.
You also have to imagine that the Tempest or P-47 were not slow planes despite being propeller planes and way later in military air combat we still saw A-10 and Su-25 doing just that against more modern anti-air weapons and MANPAD at relatively similar speeds (but not really the same altitude it depends) which is crazy despite the technology also involved for those such as countermeasures, electronic warfare jammers, targeting pods and better accuracy/weaponry per attack. It’s amazing how dangerous CAS role really is and the pilots who have the balls to do that.
Interviewer: "What did you do, the first time you saw a German jet?" Chuck Yeager: "I shot it down." Your crew chief gonna be mad about having to clean all the burned grass out of your landing gear. Oh, wait. Never mind. :)
A new beginning, and with good old Blighty, may you shred all before you. Also, I support you doing the Italian over all if your still deciding on which one to do a sires on. Show us the true nature of an Italian in the war!
Hahahaha! That landing was hilarious. Tell you what, Taff. Just quickly hop out of the crate and nonchalantly amble over to dispersal. No one will notice a thing!!! By the way. I'm pleasantly surprised you're back in the Tempest. She is a sweet aircraft!
In his book Le Grand Cirque, P Clostermann narrates that the German Me262 ace Nowotny was thus killed by Clostermann's squadron while landing, on a "Rat Catching" mission.
Yeah clear the runway Taff, lol! Anyways, good mission despite the annoying static targets (which is actually a pretty stupid idea if true IMO). Pity you didn't, or couldn't, take some rockets with you.
Fascinating how ground strafing reveals how having guns on the wings brings into play your guns convergence aimpoint... IMO The Allies missed a trick in that almost none of their fighters had the central fuselage mounted weapons whereas the Jerries included this setup basically in every fighter they made...
I'm happy with any plane. Add long as your having fun, so am I :). I'd love to see you try Growling Sidewinders channel map campaign once it's finished It looks really fun.
I'd like a battle of Britain play through but I'd also like a Torbruk play through............but then there's the 202......and the JU88...ok I can't decide, good luck Taff :-)
@@TaffinExile i think it would be awesome its a plane designed as a fighter, but became a bomber. The multi-role of the Mozzie could really vary missions & lead to an interesting career mode.
Quick question Taff will we see the HE162 Volksjager in this tempest campaign, along with AR234 Blitz bombers and other types of 262 be interesting way to show the different tactics and strategies needed
Could be problematic as neither are in the game yet... Sadly. Realistically, I'd expect it to be a long time until either of them get added as lots of more mainstream aircraft haven't been developed yet.
@@zxbzxbzxb1 witch tbh is a shame when u think about it as u would think if creating a tempest campaign be Those types seen ,do wonder if possible to get the 3D models etc and files working from IL46 as I know they have done major in depth with the late war equipment on there
@@lucius6667 Yeah it is a shame, I suspect it's a quality control issue. Il-2 FB has such high level of damage modelling etc that it must take a load of man hours to develop an aircraft ready to be put out so that only a few get put out each year. At a guess anyway. Il-2 1946 is great though, I doubt the level of detailed modelling required for FB would permit the direct use of a aircraft model from 1946 (but then, I know bugger all about really, I'm just surmising!) :)
No disrespect, but warthunder is not a realistic game. It's an arcade game, with a few realistic characteristics. I hold no grudges over wt since that game is what got me into aviation and sims. But that game is far from a realistic game
Really hope you'll take up a Macchi 202, would be an interesting career and your first full Italian foray after a few single missions. Failing that, it should be BoB as that would be a nice shakeup.
