When you pull a measuring cable out, attach another (different color) to the end so you will leave a cable behind. Then you can then just pull the new cable through

I'm a totally disabled Vietnam combat vet. I actually flew two tours over there as a scout-crewchief-gunner. Taking vets to distant full service VA's would be a consideration for you, if your so inclined. Thanks Jimmy.

I got my Airframe license last monday. I had Pastor Jimmy with me for the entirety of the O&Ps. Clear Prop!

A trick I use for fishing cables through tubing and conduit on boats is tie a piece of cotton ball or crumpled paper to a thread or string. Apply vacuum to the end with a shop vac then voila it sucks the tracer line through for you. I've never had it fail as long the pipe/conduit is pretty air tight along the way.

Hello from Ontario, Canada Jimmy. I'm in the same boat rebuilding a 72 C310Q. In my case I also have to replace all engine control cables. So far I've replaced several cracked lower wing panels and am going through a complete repaint and rebuild on any components requiring replacement. Can't wait to put the wings back on and watch my flaps cycle. Keep up the great work.

If you have a MIG welder, you can use the gun to push the microwire through. We use those to push through trailer frames and conduits to hook up rope or string to pull wiring through. Bend back the end a little so it makes a smooth leading edge.

The RU-vidr and airline pilot from California *BLANCOLIRIO* also owns and flies ‘Harvey’ a 1959 Cessna 310. He’s a super nice guy by the name of Juan Browne from Oroville who besides being an airline pilot is also a A&P mechanic. I’m confident that he’ll help you if he can.

Owner produced parts has been in the regs since WWII. The military had priority on spare parts which grounded the airlines so they got a rule put into the regs allowing them to make their own replacement parts. The rule was buried in obscurity until older planes started running out of parts. Has some limitations but if you need something and can't get it . . . at least there is a pathway.

The medical flights for Vets and children seem like a very noble cause.

I grew up in Wichita, Ks ( mid 50's ) and my best friends Dad was an Executive with Cessna Aircraft, My first flight in an airplane was in a 310 and he even let me handle the controls showing me how to read the gauges to keep it on course and level. I excited to see the completion of the 310 and its first flight!!

Use the 310 to give disabled children a flight. My son had a flight five years ago and now flies at least once a month. His pilots log has 40hrs logged. His instructor says he is a joy to fly with.

jimmy man. being a retired Aif Force veteran myself, here are my thoughts. When you get that beautiful plane back in the air, i think it should be put to use flying disabled vets to and from medical appointments, wherever and whenever necessary. Jimmy love the 310! My Uncle had a 1959 C N 1883H. Sadly it crashed in the early 70s and was totaled out. I was privileged to fly in it many times as a small boy. I soloed in 1980 in a vintage 172 but, never kept up with flying. I can't wait to see this bad boy fly again! Love your channel! Keep em' coming. Thumbs up! Before I retired, I served with Soldiers like you, you'd always make our days tolerable with your glass half full attitude. I miss those days. 55 years ago I went into the USAF as a Electronics repairman. Specifically Electronic Counter measures repairman. I had a love of airplanes. After 39 weeks of electronics training at Keelser AFB in Biloxi, MS I was stationed at Homestead AFB. I was to work on F4 fighter planes but those planes did not have ECM equipment installed. our group of five guys were loaned to SAC and we worked on all the black boxes on B52s. While at Homestead AFB I hung out at Homestead civilian airport. One of my buddies (a lifer) was working on his commercial license at Mary Gafney's FBO/school. We made friends with a bunch of guys at Homestead Air park. One day they surprised me by flying into a private air field. You approached under high power lines and departed over huge pine trees. It was a short field takeoff and landing. By the way that field was owned by Curtis Pitts. The old guys took me to meet Curtis. At the time Curtis was working on the S2A Pitts. Honestly at the time I was lost to the significance of this visit. So much I could tell you. LOVE your you tube videos. Now a 77 year old 50% disabled Vietnam VET. (Agent orange) Probably due to me flying as a crew member in a RC C47. we did computer aided direction finding at 3000 msl. Yeah! the USAF had computers back then. I continued on in IT work. When you do those mods make sure you have a A and P that has read the book of FAR I put shoulder harnesses in my 57 tri pacer ( log entry) disk brakes (log entry) generator to Alternator (log entry) and several other safety upgrades or unatainume parts . But some A and Ps say no you can’t do that , so I show them in the book of FAR and they want to talk to the FAA guy . I’m glad I have a A and P that likes to argue with the G man as much as I do. I just built a set of wings with the tips squared off and you guessed it … Log entry, haven’t installed them yet waiting for summer and I need to square off my ailerons yet so have a little work to do yet.

What a relief after watching rebuild rescue

Glad to see the project coming along. Ive been a vehicle mechanic for years and gotten burned out but am now looking into what it would take to be an airplane mechanic.

We’ve got an old 310 put out to pasture @ F69 a few yrs ago- might be a parts pig for you?

Get ‘er done! You can do it! Mercy flights for acute patients is very honorable.

For future problems, If the tube is hollow take, put the end of your string into the end of the tube, then use your shop air and blow through the tube and it should blow the string through to the other end.

Had a 310C that I lost a engine right after I pulled the gear up because the mixture wasn’t rigged properly and 1notch of lean equated to half closed……scary 60 seconds on a high DA morning. Hopefully you get it right ;)

Always have AT LEAST 2 wires or cables or strings inside of a tube to make refeeding your cable through the cable housing.

I would measure cable length with eyelets screwed out to mid position so that you have maximum plus/minus adjustment in case some of the length aren't quite right.

If you ever need to put a string in an empty conduit, tie a very small plastic bag to the end of a string, and then use a vacuum cleaner to suck the bag through the conduit. Works like a charm every time, and even cleans out bits of crud and dirt.

The various push/pull cables on the Sikorsky we operated had the actual TeleFlex vendor part number that had the length as part of the number. We had tons of "Owner Produced" parts on our S-61's, but after we sold the aircraft after being an operator, we had to change them out with OEM parts.

We can't do enough for our disabled vets. Set this bird up by the book and you will be rewarded with one of the nicest handling twins ever built...as long as you don't have to take a second mortgage to buy fuel! The airspeed indicator on that one would have been calibrated in mph originally. A "blue line" of 110 or 111 rings a bell. Used to have some 310 manuals around but donated them to a FBO several years ago. As part of your thorough inspection make sure all the control surface hinges are "like new." Control feel on the early 310 was very nice.

Every aircraft, car, boat ect. deserves a second chance. Good luck Jimmie.
