An Aardman Pikmin movie would be great. Pikmin has always had a relationship with clay, and Aardman is really good at wordless stories. It could be like one of those movies about an astronaut narrating to themselves. Plus, Olimar is one of the only Nintendo protagonists that wouldn’t be surreal at all to see talking.
Okay I REALLY agree with you that Olimar talking wouldn’t be weird. Honestly I’d kinda love to see a Pikmin game with actual voice acting if they could do it well.
Aardman sounds great, but if it was up to me I’d actually go for Laika. They do Claymation as well, but more importantly they’ve always gone for more creepy stories & aesthetics, which would work incredibly for Pikmin's creepy enemies & elements, but they also know how do make good jokes that are scattered among the main story. They also know how to make great stories of family which would work great for Olimar.
@@felixmckinney7132 That’s a good point, though Aardman is an expert at portraying non-vocal characters, such as Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, which would work perfectly with Pikmin. Also, I might be biased, but I personally don’t really like Laika films, because I think they look kind of ugly. Pikmin characters are weird, yes, but they all look endearing and charming, which I don’t think Laika is capable of.
I really am not a fan of the idea. In my opinion, the thing that makes louie a cool antagonist is that he's not some evil overlord with a sad backstory. Just a trucker with a dark side to him
DUUUUUDE a Pikmin movie has SO MUCH potential. P1’s plot especially could be adapted SO WELL if they’re willing to embrace both the adorable marketable aspects AND the dark (but still hopeful!) tone. Olimar’s already such a compelling protagonist, I’m sure a lot could be done with him in film. I’m actually pretty open to Olimar having a voice, as long as he keeps that down-to-earth and wistful personality that we see in his journals/Piklopedia entries. The Pikmin themselves are ripe for slapstick humor, I feel like a lot of good gags could come from them. Not to mention the potential of the soundtrack and musical references that could be put into the score…
You can always expand the plot of Pikmin 1 in movie form by showing other employees of Hocotate Freight, Olimar's family, Olimar and his day to day, his actual job, and so on. Theres potential for a cute, heartwarming and somewhat dramatic film with Pikmin being made into one.
Yeah, exactly!! If they keep the ‘he’s coming back from interstellar vacation’ thing, I’d imagine we could get some cool stuff about his home life that leads into why he needed a solo vacation (show the busy home life, idiot coworkers and boss, bad-with-money wife) and then when he gets shipwrecked on the planet, make him reminisce about all of the little things about ordinary life that make it special. Give some sort of “what really matters are the things you didn’t realize you missed” theme. Bonus points if his growth as a leader to the Pikmin parallels his growth as a family man and his love for his life back home. And I’m just pulling ideas out of my lesser mock bottom here. If they get someone with real narrative expertise to work on this, I can see a Pikmin movie saying something really special about leadership, family, and appreciating the mundane, ordinary lives we take for granted.
@@hyliaphora-cecropia You know what? That'd make for a endearing and understandable story that a lot of us would identify with. The logs in the franchise show us aspects of the characters that they can choose and use to give the characters identity. And besides survival, teamwork, and becoming a unit with the Pikmin race while learning of the planet, you can have the message of the movie to appreciate the little things in life. Have Olimar be kind of done with his job and the monotony that comes with it but when his life is endangered, he begins to appreciate small things like how his family pet Bulby can be a handful, his kids shenanigans, his wife's smile after a long day of work, the interactions portrayed with other employees, etc. Your attitude can be everything in how you live life and make the most of it. Heck, in the actual games we see how Olimar is more descriptive and reminiscing of his family noting the little things already. So having that portrayed would make for a sugar inducing experience.
@nicolashernandrh835 EXACTLY. Olimar is (in my opinion) one of the most relatable Nintendo personalities and is full of potential for that kind of story. Expanding on the side of him that we see in the P2 and P4 treasure logs could really make his narrative something special for the big screen. I could see a Pikmin movie where Olimar is portrayed like he is in the games resonating with a lot of people, even those who’ve never touched a Pikmin game in their lives.
Is it just me who would prefer an animated series? ESPECIALY for Pikmin 2, the one I think would be the best for a series. I mean, how much stuff would you need to put in a movie? Let's see how many caves would be nessesary: Emergence Cave, White Flower Garden, Hole of Beasts, Glutton's Kitchen and the Dream Den. AND thats only the necessary for the story to work! Thats 5 caves, witch is not a much for the story, but a lot for a movie. The worst part is bosses. Emperess Bulblax, Burrowing Snagret and the Titan Dweevil. Thats it. 3 bosses. Thats why I think that a series would work a lot better, especialy for 2, I mean, what if they chose like, 10 caves, and eaach episode is a cave? Like Submerged Castle, Subterranean Complex, etc. That would be amazing. Remember, this only would work in Pikmin 2, I belive 3 is better for a movie, since there are more characters, story and necessary bosses. But I would kill for a Pikmin 2 series/movie.
@@VantageEmblem Considering the first game revolves around a man in a distant planet isolated from inteligent life full of predators and on a time limit, illumination would need to fuck things up bad in order to not make that a dark theme
Hopefully they don't over kid-ify pikmin because its always had a dark undertone of a potentially post apocalyptic like splatoon and the whole horror of watching your Pikmin that grew with you die before your eyes
My absolute number one dream for a pikmin movie, is that its made by studio ghibli. They're REALY GOOD at being cute and dark at time. (Look at spirited away, for example) PLEASE GOD.
I think Pikmin 4 is the ideal candidate for a Pikmin film, for a multitude of reasons: - The game has a female lead, which is rare in Nintendo IPs (the avatar is fully customizable, but all the marketing uses a female character) - There is a MASSIVE cast of voiced characters to use, meaning the film can actually have significant dialog with no trouble. - The premise details of castaways and the Rescue Corps allows the writers to invent new speaking characters for the film as-needed while creating very little conflict with the source material. - All Pikmin types appear, and thus can be cast in the film without needing to invent reasons for them to be there. - It has Oatchi and Moss for the extra marketability and toy factor - It presents a plot where a male character is in peril (Olimar) - It presents a plot where there can be a voiced antagonist character (Louie) - It naturally leaves an easy door open to a cinematic universe (Pikmin 4's world is clearly inhabited by real life humans) Though, I wouldn't be surprised if they just adapt the Pikmin 1 narrative, and embellish it with their own material that will be hit-or-miss in the way Illumination is wont to do. I won't be putting any of my chips on it, but I do wonder what a Pikmin 3 film would be like. A team of three voiced protagonists bouncing off each other is a great engine for a film, and with the addition of inevitable Pikmin antics and a sprinkling of Olimar and Louie scenes is plenty material to flesh out a film, I think!
I really do hope they can make a pikmin movie. I was already thinking this awhile back and still thinking about it, but I guess we'll have to wait and see if there is gonna be a pikmin movie
Nintendo aquiring the animation studio that made the Pikmin short movies really made me think they'd go with them for a Pikmin movie. But i guess Illumination could work too.
I would trade an arm and a leg for a Pikmin movie to be real! Also with them releasing Mario Wonder the same year as the Mario movie, who’s to say they don’t push Pikmin 5 up to launch when this movie releases?
@@ZacharypjgStudios an average of 6 years because Nintendo’s kept it that way. With Pikmin 4 becoming the best selling Pikmin game of all time and this movie definitely making the series way more popular, another game wouldn’t be that far fetched
@@PixelPikmin pikmin games takes deliquiate work, and with stuff like the new console being worked on, at the very least a new pikmin game might be launched with the release of the new console
@@ZacharypjgStudios Oh I agree they take delicate work, I’m just saying it won’t take 6 years to make another one. This movie hasn’t even been officially announced yet, so it’s probably years off. I’m just saying that when that time comes they could have a new Pikmin game along side it
This is never gonna happen, but I would prefer Studio Ghibli to make a Pikmin movie. Illumination does more kid friendly stuff, which is why I think the goofy Mario franchise is perfect for them. Not to say Mario doesn’t, but Pikmin has a vibrant and expansive world and creatures that fit in with Ghibli’s strong suits
Here would be my Pitch : Laika makes a stop motion Pikmin movie, with Olimar after escaping narrating through the whole story. The movie’s theme is about family. The first 5-15 minutes would be about Olimar life on Hoccatate. He recounts how he loves his family, but things are becoming increasingly more repetitive. His kids asking for things he can’t buy, his wife scolding him for minor things, his boss sending him to the most unpleasant places for deliveries, & his co-worker just generally being a nuisance. One night, Olimar snaps at his family and goes on a midnight drive to cool off, far away from any known planets so he can be as far way from people as possible. Olimar is so caught up in his thoughts that he doesn’t notice he’s about to collide with a meteor until it’s too late. Olimar crashes onto PNF-404, a place that surprises him because of how lush it is, compared to other places like Hoccatate or Kopai, which are either extremely barren or very urban. Here he suddenly feels alone, something he thought he wanted but now he doesn’t enjoy. Here he meets the Pikmin, who remind Olimar of his family back home, even if he doesn’t realize it at first. They help Olimar realize he does care about his family over the course of the movie, all without them saying a word. Throughout this Olimar & the Pikmin encounter terrifying wildlife, while he tries to rebuild his ship. He eventually makes it home to his family, happy even though has has to leave the one he made while on PNF-404. Some scenes would include a chase sequence with the Smokey Progg, a fight sequence against the Goolix where the shot lingers on a drop from it after it’s defeated ;) & maybe even a dream sequence referencing the bad ending.
I’ve been on the claymation Pikmin movie train for like 12 years now. I think the Pikmin world looks it’s best when done in the Pikmin 2 box art clay style. Also, claymation (especially Laika) really lends itself well to the “half cute, half creepy” aesthetic that would fit Pikmin perfectly. That would be my perfect Pikmin movie. Mostly cute, but still dangerous and unsettling.
Just the plot of pikmin 1 can be turned into 5 hour video essay, I think personally like you said in the video pikmin 1 plot itself with so much character and story could be the entire movie.
A claymation Pikmin film with live action sets would actually be peak. That would be SUCH a great way to emulate the game’s uniqueness into a film. My biggest hope for a Pikmin film though, is that it wouldn’t lose the series’s heart by making it too goofy or two serious. 1 and 2 strike a GLORIOUS middle ground. Goofy characters grappling with realistic struggles, that’s my FAVORITE thing in media and my favorite aspect of Pikmin. I’d want a movie to capture that. I actually think Pikmin 3 has the best plot to adapt to a movie, I just don’t think the game itself does it justice. Show the Koppaites grapple with the pressure and looming threat of starvation, give them a character arc of learning to plan and strategize better. Like, when they actually get to the planet they realize “we have no idea what the heck we’re doing and everyone we love will die if we don’t figure it out” and have them grapple with that. Have them learn from the Pikmin’s teamwork and grow out of being JUST “silly characters”.
Perhaps they could do more shorts as well made by illumination perhaps like a mini series of a few episodes. My child really loves Pikmin and is still too young to play the games but a little cute cartoon would be neat 😊
The thing I worry about the most for a pikmin movie is making sure Olimar is an enjoyable character with flaws, a hypothetical start to the pikmin movie could be olimar loving his family, but his son wants to adopt a stray dog, but olimar says they dont have that kind of money, setting the theme of helping others and the journey to accept help, and give some to others, we could also see what olimar does in his day by day life, maybe when hes not hauling cargo its just a typical office job, or maybe the movie is getting a promotion but needs help from his coworkers. Maybe the space vacation is an excuse to get away from people offering help, what if the logs in game directly correlate to what happens in the movie, or what if the logs are being spoken out loud as a narrator throughout the movie? Theres so many routes a pikmin movie could take and I could talk about ideas for hours
What if it’s like a Mock-umentary, and it’s in the form of like Disney’s Earth. So we get to see all these creatures and Pikmin in a natural environment without having some major plot and it could be like the Pikmin short films, just a bunch of them.
I really don't think Illumination could handle something like adapting the plot of the first game, however, I DO think something akin to a mix of the shorts and the fourth game would be great. Make the main character a silent or near silent protagonist. Perhaps it could be Olimar but I'd rather him just be a cameo appearance given the circumstance of Illumination making the movie. Then, just let the Pikmin do Pikmin things and have this silent character be an observer of that.
And people were also not confident on mario maling full sentences... Just call the man who does the kratos voices, he may sound hi pitcued for olimar voice, but it can work
they BETTER not make the pikmins into a minion knock-off I swear to god Illumination, Don't you DARE ruin the pikmin Anyways, i think they will make Olimar talk (he talks with speech bubbles which other people can understand and talk/text back) and the Pikmins making cute lil pikmin noises Also if the plot is based on pikmin 1 (without louie), the end credit scene should be Louie in the dark ominously eating a pikmin shaped food (could be a puk puk/carrot when the lights turn on)
There's another question where you might not have thought of. How many Pikmin might they actually have? Cause of course Olimar can have a hundred Pikmin but will that be how it plays out? Most likely there'll be a trio of red blue and yellow with some sort of identifying factor. Maybe one of them will have an Animal Crossing style leaf with hole on it, and another has a crooked nose, and another has a notched ear or something. And they're like the bob stuart and kevin if we're full in on Pikmin as minions
I am personally hoping for an animated series similar to the short movies we have already. Perhaps take some of the comic scenarios and flesh them out a bit into like 8 minute long episodes and I would enjoy that a lot.
Imagine a scene where burrowing snagret appears and it's like this : A group of pikmin go into a bush, Looking between a Lot of twigs until they find a large wall of them, They try Climbing it and find out it's a nest, Where some baby or downy snagrets appear, The pikmin just mess around near them until then, Behind the pikmin, The burrowing snagret looks at them as they slowly turn and it releases a golden eagle screech at them as they start running!
Honestly, an Ice Age style Pikmin movie, where it’s Olimar and Louie together with Moss, would be pretty good. Also, am I the only one that thinks a stop-motion Paper Mario movie is a good idea?
Yeah. If they do make a pikmin movie. My only hope is that there is one scene where at least 20 pikmin die. It’s not pikmin if you don’t have an Incident.
@@VantageEmblemI think the cartoon violence would work in moderation when it comes to pikmin being eaten or enemies dying, the main problem is pikmin dying in in other ways. In the games, when a pikmin drowns or burns or gets crushed, their body simply disappears. That’s not really how it works in movies. Also I think one of pikmin’s problems as a whole is that people think pikmin are cute and don’t want them to die. Having dead pikmin bodies laying around sounds more like a horror movie. If that is emphasized too much it might be appalling to some people.
I really think Aardman would do the best job at adapting Pikmin to the big screen, but I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing Illumination tackling it if their recent movies are any indication
it doesnt even matter should happen after a yellow pikmin accidentally blows up a whole squad of pikmin by setting off a bunch of bomb rocks...cause you know EVERYONE has done that atleast once
Personally, a Pikmin movie in an animated style like the Mario movie CAN work. It can be about the plot of Pikmin 1 naturally with some expansion of that universe. Olimar's family, his job, the company, some of the employees, his day to day before the crashing, and of course, PNF-404 and what all is related like the wild life and some allusions to it being Earth for good measure. Not sure if we would see it, but I would not oppose it. And for a Smash Bros. cinematic universe? You could just have movies for the only the starter characters. Just focus on the original 12 or something and you do not have to go the insane route of the latest entries if you know what I mean. Just seeing the original 12 interact among them, going to all places and having a fight together against clones, the Fighting Polygon Team and Master Hand makes for a decently packed movie.
My thoughts here are that i really wouldn't trust illumination with it, i think they'd make the pikmin just reskinned minions, olimar would be voiced by chris pratt, it would just be a mediocre and super safe baby movie like the mario movie was. I'm glad you guys mentioned Aardman and making it look like the pikmin 2 promo art because I was thinking about that exact thing yesterday! But then there's the bigger issue that you guys also talked about in the video that pikmin plot-wise would be quite hard to adapt into a feature length movie. It could be done but you'd have to really change alot about the structure from the games which might alienate the fanbase. I think a series of 5-minute episodes would work alot better than a feature film and the shorts we already have are a very good proof of concept to use as a foundation for that. Also thanks for putting Ecosphere in the description bro!
NOOOoooo. Vantage don’t do that, my heart can’t take this type of news, I’m going to go into cardiac arrest bro 😂 I’m actually going to flip like a chair over of this is real
If they do a rock Pikmin spoke in the voice of a rock Pikmin they would make it a gag where a rock Pikmin is about to speech to the other Pikmin in the Pikmin voice That we wouldn’t be able to understand and then a phone gets set off playing a clip of the rock and the Pikmin just notice it
My big concern with a Pikmin movie would be how it would fit into a traditional movie structure with a plot that extends beyond a a few sentences. The length in Pikmin games are the exploration and item collection, but that’s not going to offer a lot of content without more plot. Pikmin 4 definitely steps in that direction of having a more complex plot structure with more characters to interact with, but I think it would be a misstep not to start with Olimar first. Problem there is that Olimar’s first crash has him solo. Even if he’s given a voice to avoid a whole movie of subtitles, he wouldn’t have anyone to chat with, which will make for a boring cinematic experience. The Pikmin shorts are amazing because they are the Pikmin being silly, but being short-form content means they don’t outstay their welcome. I will be the first in line for a Pikmin film but I am cynical about how it would work.
