Great video, has me thinking about my board shape, which is a great tip. I hope you recover well Shane; your and toms dynamic remimds me of skating with my buddies, and both your styles, coupled, make for such great content.
the twin you just were skating is a 6.8 in tail and nose is identical so that could be it. you skate a shorter tail "6.5" in that was your tail on the 8in, thats your timing TWIN 8.2 DECK Brand Santa Cruz Deck Construction 7-ply Deck Length (Inches) 32.00 Deck Noselength (Inches) 6.80 Deck Shape SC-391 Deck Taillength (Inches) 6.80 Deck Wheelbase (Inches) 14.20 Deck Width (Inches) 8.20
After I analyzed the 3 boards, i left comments below. Your new board specs would be great like this NEW SPECS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER deck length 31.5 deck nose 6.6in deck shape SC-350-VX deck tail 6.6in deck wheelbase 14.1 deck width 8.2 those are perfect math dimensions that take into account all the things you liked in your old 8in like the wheelbase and length and shape, but its shorter than the Fabiana board by .1 centimeter length same width as the twin 8.2 your original 8 is a 6.5 tail with a 6.7 nose so i took them and made it even 6.6 each your shape was the SC-350 your new twin shape is the SC-391 Fabiana's shape is SC-381 so now you need to figure out which concave you prefer the one on the Fabiana the one on your twin model or the one on your 8in model.
Sounds perfect, i love a short wheelbase. I had a vx a few years back with a 14 inch wheelbase on a 8.0 and i loved it but was a bit skinny for my old ass. Ill get your board 100% when it comes out.
So cool watching you experiment with different sizes. I have your old SC deck with the cracked liberty bell and the spider coming out hanging on my wall. One of my fav boards I’ve ever skated. Love! 🤝
new custom shape is hype that is dope they down to do a new shape for ya. Think a slight tapper twin tail would be super dope and if there is one in a 8.5 I would try it (personally love 8.68 but, rarely ever see that size.)
Tom remember when we used to be young and we practically skated any size shape and lenght on boards? It's funny how now that we are older we need to have an specific size on everything! I wish I could make my own shape board as well. But wish the best on your shape creation!
If u can not jump from a 14 to 14.25 WB, and find something more proportionate to the width change, you'll feel more comfortable with your decision to go wider, because your mental visual memory for foot placement will match. But, from what I've considered for your experience of enjoying skating more to try tricks differently to get more pop guarantee, you'll also be able to put your feet closer together even, if you want to get that hang time or extra time in the air you are seeking, but your skating is already so powerful, excited to watch these. That switch 180 to back crooks was so good by the way! ✌️
I set up your new twin tip last week. I've skated one other twin tail board before (a Thank You), and honestly I am not used to the concept of that as a board yet when it comes to thinking about skating or feeling the board. That being said, the new twin did feel long, and I need to ride it a few more times to get used to it. I'm looking forward to skating it more. I love your tapertip shape for flatground skating, especially for scoopy tricks. Your new concept sounds really amazing - more stability with the special features of the tapertip. Keep up the good work and great skating Tom!
I Told you Santa Cruz, would make it for you. lol like we were saying that Fabiana board should be almost what your looking for. minus a few changes. wheel base and length and concave, keep them the same as your old 8 in set up, this is your pro model 8 in specs Deck Length (Inches) 31.50 Deck Noselength (Inches) 6.7 Deck Shape SC-350-VX Deck Taillength (Inches) 6.5 Deck Wheelbase (Inches) 14.1 Deck Width (Inches) 8.00
If it aint broken dont fix it tom. Wider board does provide more stability.. But makes tricks look more sluggish. It would help with transition. But for street an 8 or 7.875 makes skating look effortless.
I think he's doing this to be able to sell more boards hehe. In this age it is way too hard to find someone riding an 8 board or less (even for street skating). For me I was kinda forced to upgrade my size up to 8.125 / 8.25 if I wanted to skate twin boards. Which I loved.
that Fabiana deck has a longer Tail than your old 8in set up. yours was 6.5 the Fabi is 6.6 Brand Santa Cruz Deck Construction 7-ply Deck Length (Inches) 31.60 Deck Noselength (Inches) 6.80 Deck Shape SC-381 Deck Taillength (Inches) 6.60 Deck Wheelbase (Inches) 14.00 Deck Width (Inches) 8.25
Def will be interested in trying this board. Tom knows his stuff. personally 8.25 is what i have been skating and i like it but i def always wish there was something right in between 8.25 and 8.1. Love twin tails and always thought 14.25 wheel bases were a hair too long. Stoked to see the launch. Toms more narrow tail and nose design is what i felt alot of boards were like coming up in the 90s and 00s. These days i feel noses and tails are much more broad and round which isnt too my liking.
Those Fabiana boards are pretty dope imo, I do love a 14 inch wheel base. I prefer wider decks though, and I wish so much Santa Cruz did a 8.5 with 14" wb. I will say though, I'm on that 8.8 Dressen VX deck right now (14.25 wb) and for real I'm kinda loving it.
@@theJACK__ yeah thanks dude. It's been a minute since I looked at the stumps but from what I remember 8.5 still had a 14.25 wb.... however, after posting this comment I actually took a look at the Santa Cruz website and I did see 2 8.5's with a 14 wb. So I spoke too soon in my comment. I know a lot of companies have started making some wider decks with 14 wb's now, I guess Santa Cruz has too... which I'm pumped on.
I feel like when they made ur twin shape they extended the board long ways to go with the wider width but in reality that makes the board feel bigger. Idk if you have skated a 8.0 with a longer wheelbase 14.5 and up. the longer wheelbase will cause the board to feel bigger and for street skating shorter wheelbase makes the tricks go around faster! Just some things to think about
Looking forward to buy your new board, hope it will be 8.2 inch VX twin tail. I rode McCoy's VX but I'd like to have shorter wheelbase and tail also. After VX no other deck feels the same, I tried Powell Flight deck also but they are chipping like crazy.
My favorite shape to ride is 8.38 but a lot of companies don’t have the twin shape in that size, just 8.25 and 8.5, honestly haven’t rides size 8 board in 10 plus years, and when I stepped on one recently it felt so small, but I heard you say your shoe size is an 8 which makes sense why you feel more comfortable on an 8, I’ve been riding 8.5 just seems to wide, and 8.25 seems to little that’s why the 8.38 is perfect for me right in the middle, but can’t find a shape I like and just deal with the slow flip of an 8.5, as you can see I got the board madness as well, if the concave on a board is slightly different it throws off my whole vibe
I noticed the switch flip you messed up on was the only one you didn’t do over the shadow on the ground🤷♂️. Maybe, thinking about going over something makes you feel more confident 😛 Either way, the ones you did right after were sick! 🏄🏻♂️🛫🛬🛩
The dedication to the fans and the craft. Started skating in 97 and you couldnt tell me the Kalis 7.3 love board wasn't perfect...i now skate an 8.3 and...still get no hoes but once you make the right adjustments? As Marlon Craft says "L's become W's when you adjust the angle." Thanks again for this vid, Tom.
You know what I'm thinking. A regular skater is not going to get the chance to test out all the different measurements. And I think it could make a huge difference in progression. I never knew their were so many extra things you could tamper with. But anyway man, I really enjoy watching the videos where you and Shane skate together. Most of my homies have moved away and ended up hanging up my board. But recently started again after about six years at 40 years old. Skating alone. You should have a session with more pros. Like having Chris Cole in one video would be fun.
Bro, some wicked 2-pieces in that sesh 🔥🙌🏾 And super excited by the new board design coming. I'm keen as to support with one of your decks and cause I'm short I love the Fabi shapes (8.25, 14.0WB), on my third one of hers. So an 8.2 14WB i'd be keen to hit 👍🏾
Also, I don't really know how the dimensions affect each other but Fabi's VX shape is 31.6 long so you could possibly extend the overall length to 31.8 with 14.0WB and maybe gain back 0.2 on the tail?
Hey Tom, thanks for thinking out of the box on this. I was just wondering: why don't you talk to SC about making more sizes? I can skate your 8.2 but it sounds like you would reach more people with a few different sizes. The Evant Asta comes in multiple sizes, not just yours 🙂 Idk if it's possible but it would be nice for people to be able support you buying your boards in a size they can skate. Thank you and Shane for all your work!
14 Wb is great ! I noticed, knowing that I'm short and don't have long legs, short boards are so beneficial for me ! :) However, what is the lenght for this deck ?
I got a quasi on sale Josh Wilson (NJ head 🙌) 31.8 x 8.25 & 14wb. Rare abnorm quasi shape with length and wb. Looking forward to hear length on your finalized shape glad to hear you dealing the 8.25. Santa Cruz with only fabiana decks with that wheelbase. Would like to support the bros from the tri-state area and respects to her but weirded out buying girl pro decks.
8.25 tapered with 14” wheelbase? That’s exactly what I skate (but I prefer relatively flatter boards). I’d buy it though. If I like it and it has a shape code so I can always get the same exact board every time I’d buy it every time I need a board.
I just turned 40, and I’m riding an 8.4 rn, and it def feels too big. I think 8.25 is my sweet spot; not too big, not too small. My current board is also kinda crazy shape though, it’s a Madness I got on sale right after they went under. It’s fun for tranny and stuff but I prefer ledges/gaps/etc.
Hey Tom. I’m curious what your height is and what your shoe size is. I’m experimenting between 8-8.25 and wanted to gauge for myself what might feel best for me. I think we might be the same height.
I love a 8.125 and I like a shorter length board I feel I don’t have to drag my front foot so far up the board just to reach where the nose starts at. Length is what I had issues with on kickflips or any flip tricks. Longer decks my front foot feels like it’s so far forward and my stance is to wide but that’s what you get when you are 5”3 lol but the disorder boards at 8.125 have been perfect length for me they are not shorter but they are long enough where I don’t struggle reaching the nose. I do wanna try the 8.0 you ride tho. I just gotta make my self spend 100 bucks on a deck lol
Strange question but do you know what birds of prey were flying in the distance during your warm up? I see a lot of Buzzards while I’m skating here in England, always love to see them. Love the videos, keep them coming 👊
its a twin nose i think technically... i just always call them twin tail for some reason thats my bad haha... tail and nose on this board are 6.8 inches long
