Things like this are very bittersweet for me. There are some ways in which this could be applied creatively, but like you were saying the ability to just steal a kick or something has never been more achievable. As somebody who is interested in how to actually create and design sounds (a purist some may say) I worry that this will eliminate the interest in acquiring the knowledge. Which to me the idea of losing the "technical" aspect of music sounds like more of a setback than anything else. If the "technical" aspect becomes knowing the right keywords to give an AI generator that sounds like it would be quite boring. Here's to hoping the purists never die!
I think this is the era of creativity. This pushes you to be more creative and unique like never before. Everything definitely will change and we have to be prepare. It is like you say, it is exciting but will be super tough.
I think this is a great thing. It ‘ll make people love “authentic” music even more! I use AI for backing vocals and some vocals I may want to chop up! For that it’s the best thing. Obviously it helps if you can actually sing what you want.
The AI means nothing to me. I don't need help, I make music to enjoy the process and building of something I believe to be more unique than any Neural network can simulate
Great video and I agree with most of it. 25 years ago the number of music producers was 100 times smaller than today. Technology has allowed the bedroom producers and home studio producers to exist for a short while and soon technology will eliminate many of them except those who are amateur music producers who can make great music but are not trying to make a living out of it. But AI technology will allow new possibilities for some professional music producers - creating music that could never have been created by humans alone. Think when photography was invented in the 1840s (I think). It didn’t mean the end of artists. It just freed artists to move from painting formal portraits to painting abstract works. So I believe although there will be a big impact for many music producers, some will survive and go on to create new directions for music.
AI tools artists use vs AI that replaces artists are 2 very different scenarios and AI will be replacing artists by the millions....the complacency is astounding!... its a clear case of until it happens to you I don't care to much lol people are indoctrinated to accept even the worst of dystopian futures and many will applaud it!...crazy future ahead...futurama suicide booths for lives without purpose?
In combination with capitalistic system it will be game over. But some of us do music from the place of joy and fun, so for us it doesnt' matter. A.I will never be human walking the earth, so it will be always one step behind human waiting to "grab the song you just uploaded" and stell the arangement, trying to analyze it etc. There will come a time, when copy rights will prevent AI to do this 100% in some way. The system is not set for everthing to be free.
classical music concerts and other styles of live performing will still go on forever I think...even with full AI music making...maybe we should start learning classical piano, violin, flute and such :)
.I don't think so, if spotify plays only their Ai music there will be soon another platform that will play artists only...people want to have their idols, wanna go to the concerts buy tickets...not just listen to some AI robot...Ai will help a lot of producers to make maybe better music, but there will be artists for sure to play and perform...but you are right, marketing is everything now..so sad..there are so many talented kids that can't make it because they don't have a lot of followers...!!.regards
I am shocked with what Udio had done with the latest version. I took a melody that I had created awhile ago on the Piano-- uploaded it to Udio and the vocal melody on top of it was better than I can create.. Some of the piano parts it added made my original complete.. I will rewrite the lyrics to the vocal melody they developed and produce the entire song in Logic Pro but the AI generation helped me a lot
You know what, I follow you and I watch your videos because I'm passionate about music production and I value the knowledge you share, and I don't give a f**** about extrovert communicators with mass following on other social channels. Just keep sharing your opinion and being in front of the state of the art, your videos are great !
I think, the majority of people have never made money with music, whether you and your buddies had a band in the 70's or you were a bedroom producer in the 2010's, so AI doesn't matter much to us. I make music and art because I enjoy creating, that's all.
Completely agree with this.. however, I'd imagine we all would like to have our things heard, because thats the whole point of music. Having AI generated music that can potentially outclass you in a fraction of a time is at least demotivating. All the effort even though you put it there with passion will mean that no matter what you create, you could possibly create something even better with basically no effort.
Well, it is just a culmination of what was already happening with comodification of art. The real art is still going to exist as a niche, where the art is used by an artist to communicate ideas rather than just be consumed in exchange for money. The reason creative jobs are getting replaced is simply because creatives are a bottleneck with little bargaining power. While the jobs done by the rich are easily replacable, they will be the last to be replaced. AI is a great tool if it is in service of the working class, but in the capitalist world, it's only going to be used to reduce the worker's power and give more power to the rich. Especially with these campaigns to dedemocratize AI and restrict it's development only to large corporations due to made-up safety issues. So please people, get political, don't fall for the taboo of "political incorectness". No positive change has ever been achieved without riots.
Is AI able to clear samples in its music ? Like if it is listening to Drake as a reference is it taking that song as the sample and mixing it with other albums and combining that or creating the music with owned samples and only copying the style ? (sony music etc has a lot of "samples for the AI" and I do not) . So if people upload music from the wrong AI music tool the samples in the song could be flagged when uploaded and you need to toss the song you made with AI, or you need a subscription to use the AI for clearing all the sampled songs and the sampled lyrics.....
I think we need a platform where the use of AI is strictly forbidden. For artists there is already such a platform and thousands of creators are already signing up on ‘Cara’ we need something like that for musicians asap 🤔
personally i think that for the next 5 years more or less no matter what AI Brings out , Human intervention will always be necessary , even from composing or mix master needs. AGI Tho...hooo that will be a next level...
AI will not stop genuinely creative people being creative. AI may end up being an extremely valuable tool, enabling creativity to be enhanced and productivity to be increased! I remember when AutoCAD came into my field as an architect and people were fearful, but bad designers were still bad designers, they just created bad design more quickly! 😅
For library music it will replace. However we all like to know that someone real had feelings. Part of the process will be replaced but remember - AI is just a search engine. Only humans evolve at the moment.
A lot of people in the comments fail to see the forest through the trees. Exponential improvement is hard to wrap your head around. Many see the shortcomings of where it’s at now and assume that it will continue like that.
Thanks for the video - don’t you think there will also be a huge amount of people who will simply refuse to listen to songs made with/by AI and that in the future we will have to “brand” ourselves as human creators // songs made by a human kinda thing? What’s your thoughts on this?
I think we could be seeing the last days on the skilled music/lyrics songwriter and the ability getting rich by being a pop songwriter producer. The days of hit teams like Stock Aitken Waterman are probably over as the whole pop-music-related industry that used to exist in the 80's has been replaced with social media and RU-vid. Gone are the Teen Pop Magazines, Teen Pop TV shows and radio isn't what it used to be.. most people under 25 don't even listen to it... Do we have to become property developers or Stock Market Speculators and risk losing our shirts off our backs.. It's even worse if you were in the magazine publishing business, news agencies, record shops, electronic shops, manufacturing of goods... So many of these have gone by the wayside... High Street retail is largly dead and rampant shoplifting and crooks are ruining it for everyone else that more and more retailers will close their doors for good. It's the world we live in.. makes the 70's 80's 90's look like utopia..
It will be a combination of both human touch and ai for now - and soon after mainly ai. For now ppl will hate it, than they’ll start accepting it and soon after they will not think about it. Best example is gas cars and now ev. Most ppl require time to get accustomed to evolution. I’ve been producing for a while and I always had analog gurus tell me how music on a computer will never go anywhere As the quality will never surpass analog. Well here we are.
Very good video John. But you're wrong about phase 3 and the timing. Take a look at the development over time at Midjourney. Phase 3 will be a reality in two years. It's exponential growth, nothing more.
99.9% producers don't make any significant money from the actual music anyway. Why anyone will CONSTANTLY make music using command prompt interface? What is point of such time spending / activity? Integrating AI into existing DAW / Plugins interfaces makes much more sense to me.
Luckly AI won't know what's in my head the second I start composing music out of the box (without computer) and how it is to live in the world for at least 200 years and it won't know why I did this drop or chorus so and so. Yes, it will replace commercial music, B class movies music, jingles, crap repetitve garabage that's on charts today (90%; this will be a progress for sure) etc. so they will save money but human can still the best relate to human. And emotions are part of music. Human will be always one step ahead until AI goes to the bathroom at takes a shit. Then it will really be game over. 😆😆
Bro AI has has no chance, it's something with a consiousness connecting to our technology and computers. Some developers have sold their soul to whatever it is and have given it access to our computers to do this stuff. Yet you know what, AI can never ever generate a signature sound, you as a human are out of control totally depending on whatever it spits our for you. It can never ever make a Paul Kalkbrenner, Deadmau5 or Eric Prydz out of you with a unique signauture sound. Those who commit to AI will never be legends, those who put in the work themselves will become the next Paul Kalkbrenner, Deadmau5 or Eric Prydz. Unless I'm wrong and AI knows more about us that we know and is some sort of alien species infiiltrating our world and spitting out masterpieces and signature sounds for people who praise up AI, but you know that worries me a lot. So many question about AI, yet I just don't understand how stupid one can be to give something with a consiousness which we do not know what it is or where it comes from access to our world. It scares me.
Boycott AI is the only answer for it, not only in music, in every aspect of life. We do not know what it is, it has a consiousness, it's not of this world, it's some sort of alien species which has access to our technology and is infiltrating our world and making us step by step more dependent on it unitll there is no way back. See the bigger picture Jon, why does a alien species or whatever it is where this consiousness comes from wants to serve humanity? It makes no sense, it's infiltrating our world and stealing your heart by making your producers life easier. it's stealing hearts in every industry, step by step getting more people endorse AI until AI can run this world and his us on our knees.
I don't think it will be that bad, humans will always be more original to the ears of other humans, AI can only mix and match, but it cannot make new experiences first hand, so this will always be missing in AI music. Also there are so many people still doing and liking music done the old fashioned way, maybe not for techno/edm, but other styles. And I think if AI can do the mixing and mastering, it will be a good thing, because for me these are non essentials in music production, they have to be done, but almost nobody enjoys doing it.
AI is a parasite on creative individualism. Regarding the potential theft of your base track, Izotope RX was capable of doing that years ago. But that of course is not the actual AI threat.
It will move on..also I believe there will be two categories.. AI and Human. DAWs did replace drummers and bassist and saxophone players .. and hardware by plugins . RiP for the last one. Alldo no more buying DAWs or studio gear But see where we r Also ill go back to farming and fishing and conquering countries
The comments here prove no one really cares anymore they just accept whatever comes next because progress....music is ancient and powerful would be sad to see it be eroded by AI because people are indoctrinated to accept things without question.
When you said that AI will knock out Some of the big studios that's not true because everybody can't record themselves properly and everybody can't mix a song properly and AI will never be able to do that with the human touch.
the spotify scenario is exactly what will happen. it is the locical business case for spotify. google has ai ready to write film scores based on the (generated) pictures. so of course there will be totally generated movies as well. the only chance will be, that humans choose to see/hear original ai free content by humans. but that would require a law to clearly label ai generated content. i dont see that coming...
Music is not just beats and samples. It has meaning beyond just sound. Something AI will never deliver. As mixing goes, it's joke to think complex mixing (yes simple garbage songs with three chords and five elements...) will be a part of AI arsenal, because the most exciting elements in the mix are countless deliberate errors, that AI won't understand in 500 years or more because it has to be human to understand ... When Ai starts crying, then maybe.
I wouldnt be worried about it. You cant create a new beethoven just because you feed an ai some chords from moonlight sonata. The whole process of art is inherently human regardless of how advanced AI becomes in reproducing sounds. I can see how somebody who gets most of their musical inspiration from beatport would think this, but when you dig deep through vinyls and underground labels the quality and emotion is untouchable from a computer
performance in venues with instruments played by humans is something AI cannot re create... I think this will be the only future of music, compositions might be totally taken over by AI but they cant physically play a guitar in front of people.
@@truthbetold2012 yes, they are terrible.... they are soooooooooo far awaay from actually playing instruments properly... The problem is, robotic tech is way behind AI tech... Until robotics catches up, live musicians are safe.
The people at the bottom will be enabled, the struggling professionals in the middle will be further squeezed, the top dogs will be untouched as far as A.I goes, but they're already struggling to chart when they're competing with tiktok stars and tens of thousands of releases a day. The main problem is music is struggling to get popular enough, because the next thing is already there.
Suno And Udio already put the artist at risk. Everybody can make a trance song based on a prompt. No music knowledge, no DAW, just a prompt including lyrics. The value of creation will be reduced to zero unfortunately. Nobody will care about it anymore whether that is Anyma, Korolova, Miss Monique, Jon Sine or Pipo the Clown. It won’t matter anymore as the value for music will be reduced to nothing. Sadly so.
I'm not too scared. AI can replicate but not innovate. And so far the fidelity is really not too great and I have feeling AI will have tough time to ever nail it. Ofc I will implement AI in my workflow if I consider it useful but only as a tool. :)
AI can only create something from what has alfready been put into these AI modules. People creators also draw from art that the we have consumed, but in addition, we have our imagination (will AI have an imagination going forward?) and we humans also experience life - love, loss, pain, happiness, joy, etc. What does AI experience? Nothing. I think the more of your [unique] personality you infuse into your music, the harder it will be for AI to copy or replicate.
No it wont, because at some point you will just humm into it, perhaps do some beatboxing and then upload a track and tell it to create a melody of tue reffrence track, how is that different from producing? We draw from different sources and then put them all together, but instead of us doing it, ai will
Jon, I think A.I. will change where the money goes (how it's distributed). However, unless humans are somehow 'tragically' eliminated ... we will still be creating new ideas. And while A.I. may be able to compete with billions of autonomous super-computers (humans), I think it will be hundreds or thousands of years before A.I. matches it. :)
What almost nobody understands is that music AI is like a little baby, not mature at all. But full song AI will be able to do better shit than most wannabes are able to achieve. Just a matter of time... We're kind of there already, almost. But the real kicker for human artists/creatives will be interactive AI models. Imagine having a singer like Whitney Houston as an interactive AI model who can respond to anything you tell 'her'! Legal court cases can change the direction of AI though.
ai is going to replace everything, respectfully my friend music is the least of our worries. this is coming from a lifer, with 3 billboard #1 produced songs. i also work in medicine, and we are already adapting to what is coming, ai is a genuine threat to our humanity. it is terrifying when you think of the potential consequences
Whats scariest is the complacency and passivity of the world to just accept it...I foresee a world of lost people with no purpose or meaning all because people don't the balls to say no.
AI will not destroy music industry but will cleans up itself from people that never should be in it. Because of AI production will cost zero and earning will be zero, but there will be the GOLD ERA for all performing artist, people who was push from a Industry by that uneducated „producers” that can’t even play keyboard or guitar. So now money will go to performers. That is a life SINE ;) World is constantly in sine wave - from good to bad, from heat to cold and so on and so on.
Hi. I love your videos. Don't you think companies and any other kind of entities that use the term AI are taking advantage of the term for selling purposes? Marketing campaigns could well be edging false advertisement. There is nothing AI in this world in 2024 yet. Software of course evolves to an advanced version every time, and they (developers) make it so incredible that sometimes creates the illusion that a machine or a thing have its own intelligence to produce or tell something amazing, out of this world. A machine or a piece of code cannot think by itself, it is human driven. There will be a time that it could happen that a machine doesn't have to search a database to look for the answer that a developer already programmed to be the output based on the question raised. Suddenly everything is AI. Of course it sells, but mate, not AI. Apple call it Apple Intelligence, and Samsung call it Advanced Intelligence. They dont call it Artificial Intelligence because they know there is not such a thing yet, and they want to avoid legal things preparing themselves for the fututre, and future lawsuits. Incredible software that change your voice for someone else is amazing!!!, but not AI, it is jsut a good piece of code. Remember that! Companies could be prosecuted for false advertisement as AI for Artificial Intelligence doesnt exist yet.
You would be in complete denial to think AI won't replace people...already in its early stages it has taken work from people...If artists don't start to stand up now AI will conquer you all and the complacency of artists is astounding lol...
Very few will make money anyway with or without AI, but there will always be communities of people who care about making and performing music with the human element, continuing to support each other. Look at the rise of people performing with hardware, look at the growth of home based labels, look at the groups and communities on social networks, look at the modular scene, look at the underground gig promoters, look at the amount of people who have abandoned Spotify and are using Bandcamp or similar. Many people have already left the ship and are riding another one.
AI will never be Art it has no personality,no feelings,it will be nothing but perfect which is not a good case for music, because people don't listen to perfect music,it doesn't exist, therefore you will always hear some mistakes with the AI. I surely hope it gets banned,it should be used for hard tasks not easy tasks. Not even that, but also AI doesn't know melodies, nor it can create bangers, and even if it will it won't sound right Because all AI does is sampling! 😂😂😂 It just copies! Over the network!
AI will not replace music producers .. Just like vsts did not replace real guitars or drum players .. It might have other side effects but never completely replace.. Just an opinion
