Images of Auschwitz: Talk with Paul Salmons 

No matter how much I study the Holocaust, one of the things that is surprising to me is that the topic never loses its ability to overcome me. Time after time, I encounter details that bring the reality of it down on me. They're often small things that seem relatively innocuous at first but that grow uglier the more you consider them. Here he mentions briefly that some members of the Sonderkommando were known to advise new arrivals such as telling Mothers with children to pass them to a Grandparent. The longer you think about it, the more ways it breaks your heart.

I have just received the most brilliant, thorough and unforgettable lesson not only on Auschwitz, as experienced through the eyes of the victims and the nazis, but also on how to read a photograph. I will forever never be able to walk past a photo exhibition, nor any other photo presented to me again. I have watched this video twice already to make sure I understand the message, both of the ability to read a photo and the experience felt by the victims told through the photo of the subjects themselves. I have also started to apply this new skill by already watching other holocaust videos, pausing the video when a picture comes into frame, and spending at least 10 minutes trying to "hear" what the victim is telling me through their presence. Thank you for giving me this wonderful new gift to deepen my understanding of this dark event in the history of the Jewish people. It is a much treasured gift to me, one that I will forever use and never forget how I received. Shalom.

I have two babies under 3. We wouldn't have stood a chance in Birkenau and that mere thought breaks my heart. The perpetrators destroyed so much more than human life.

People sometimes ask how is this used as education. I am a 52 year old woman that did not know anything about the Holocaust until I saw Oscar Schindler’s List movie, since then it affected me in a way that I started reading about it and inquiring about everything related. I as a child was told that Jews had killed Jesus Christ and that for that reason they were bad people. I personally refused to believe it, as well as I refused to judge other people by their appearance or religion. I always questioned my elder’s assumptions and opinions, I always wanted to know why’s on everything. That brought me to read a lot and get my own view. I feel heartbroken to say the least whenever I hear this talks and testimonies of what people went through. That systematic way of trying to erase a whole race a whole nation of human beings just for been Jews. Is it very sad to think that there is a lot of people still on this days that use the same logic that the Nazis used in those days 80 years ago. But this videos have helped me to educate my kids on how it happens that people become hateful and how to avoid it. Thank you .
