This song was played in Germany at the Žekeznica station in the city of Cologne, and in 2012 I went with my mother from Serbia as an asylum seeker and I heard this song for the first time at that place in the train station, it stayed in my memory and I found it every time I play this song, I go back to my childhood and my life abroad, and I have always loved great Brotania because of good music and good beer. I am currently playing the guitar and I am working to play this song so that the villagers can hear what good music is. Happy new year 2024 and I love all good people who love imelda may
Just love Imelda May! This song has a special meaning to me. My Irish born Uncle Atty McCrann raised his family in Kentish Town. I was lucky to visit them in 1970. Their "local" was The Abbey - my first introduction to a real Pub, having been raised Stateside in Boston. I purchased my first ever pint at The Abbey Tavern - it was Harp Larger - and I was the ripe old age of 15. Love this song and its memories of Kentish Town and my beautiful family in London.
I was raised in Kentish Town and my family have lived here since 1962 when it was a heavily Irish (and Greek Cypriot) area. Used to go to the Forum when it was an ABC cinema (saw Zulu there!) before it became an Irish dance hall and then a rock venue. The old fella with the beard near the beginning (0:18) is Ken. Anyone who goes to Mario's in Kelly Street will know him. Love NW5
Lady Puddleton I still work in Kentish Town and walk past the Forum everyday. Any time you see an ambulance coming up from Highgate rd there’s a fairly good chance that I’m driving it. Huge respect to Imelda and respect to NW5!
This song has been on the web for over two years! I'm so glad to see people are finding it and enjoying it!!! Let's give this gal all the kudos she deserves!!!!! She has a lot of other songs out there, but I think this one is the very best!
Imelda and band are brilliant!!i love how imelda doesn't lose her accent even wen she sings so many people try to change to sound more American or grander but imelda is genuine which is refreshing....
Imelda May is one of the most amazing singers I have heard in a long time! I have fallen head over heels for her music. She deserves far more recognition!
Un día fui a comprar a un centro musical en argentina y tenían este tema de esta cantante y me gustó tanto que de ahí soy su seguidora gracias por cantar tan bello tu música me relaja
What an insightful biographical song about hardships and the trials a couple has when they hit rock bottom and rise like a phoenix because of their love and belief in one another. "True perseverance is measured... When after many years one can look back and realized that the person next to you is looking back with you...[Still!]" -David R.
Do you remember we traipsed around From pub to pound shop, through Kentish Town? Only a fiver to our name The drunk on the doorstep had more to our shame Living over the offie had its trials The fights all night out there and inside And those stews that lasted three days into four And the dreaded baliffs returned to our door But we stook with each other with all our might We pulled it together and held on tight And I'm glad for us, yeah, I'm glad, Machree But it's nothing to anyone 'cept you and me There were wrongs for every right There's ups and there's downs But you're the one for all my life My true love I have found, yeah you, my love I found I watched the moon cover the might of the sun The weird eerie light at a quarter past one And I knew in my head as I lay in my bed That you'd stay in my heart 'til the day I was dead We killed each other and loved in time And laughed 'til we almost cried Yeah, we cried as well when it all went to hell And my heart, it broke 'til I swear it died But we stook with each other with all our might We pulled it together and held on tight And I'm glad for us, yeah, I'm glad, Machree But it's nothing to anyone 'cept you and me There were wrongs for every right There's ups and there's downs But you're the one for all my life My true love I have found, yeah you, my love I found Oh, you're good at the things that I'm hopeless at And I notice what you ignore But it's when I see you're not prefect for me It's then I love you more and more And we stook with each other with all our might We pulled it together and held real tight And I'm glad for us, I'm glad, Machree But it's nothing to anyone 'cept you and me There were wrongs for every right There's ups and there's downs But you're the one for all my life My true love, I have found, yeah you, my love I found, ooh There were wrongs for every right There's ups and there's downs But you're the one for all my life My true love I have found, yeah you, my love I found
She is evolving all the time & trying new types of music& songs & poetry today. Her Rockabilly days & her first true love,Sadly thay have gone their separate ways. She left the Rockabilly when she left him probably to painful by association. Grate person & a fantastic song writer & poet
I love imelda may. Not only is she incredibly beautiful and talented, but her appearance on Five's The Wright Stuff shows she has a brain in her head which is clearly fantastic. Love you Imelda xx
