The immortal chess game shows the brilliance of Anderssen as he sacrifices two rooks, a queen and a bishop but beautiful uses the rest of his pieces to win the chess game.

Wow, white never captured a single minor or major piece from black the whole game. I'm no chess expert, but even I can appreciate how amazing that is.
@Diabl05564

themasterchao Took a grand total of 3 pawns and pulled off a checkmate. It is impressive as all hell, and shows how important developing your pieces early in the game is important.

To clarify a lot of peoples questions: 6:36 pawn is legal because of en passant rule 5:01 knight blocks the other because black would've forked king and rook, then white rook is gone because if pawn takes knight leaving his rook open for queen to take and gain a check. 11:00 e5 pawn is bad because of queen c6 defending both rook and queen then Andersson is forced to waste a turn and destroy some positioning defending/moving his queen

Vladimir Nabokov wrote of this Game in the Forward to Zashchita Luzhina, where he wrote of "the unfortunate and noble Kieseritzky - who is doomed to accept it over and over again through an infinity of textbooks, with a question mark for monument." There's a Film adaptation of Nabokov's work, which I believe exists in a truncated form on RU-vid.

Solace Snipe en passant rule
@cyphonav7199
@cyphonav7199 9 лет назад
Solace Snipe in en passant,if your opponents pawn has moved two moves(during the start) adjacent to your pre-placed pawn then you have the ability to take out that pawn right after this situation occurs and en passant is not valid if you didnt do it right after the opponents piece locked up in en passant

Watching this game really helped me when I got into a similar situation where black brought out the queen too early, and had to waste so many moves moving it into safety. Meanwhile I was able to develop my pieces, managed to isolate his queen from the King and eliminate every last safe move. After capturing the queen I was able to get the checkmate a few turns after.

at 8:55 wouldn't it be better for the knight to take a pawn? specifically the e pawn because retreating the knight does nothing, he probably wont get it out anytime soon, and its one less place his king can go since the queen side is to undeveloped for real play. if the knight took the pawn, whites center would be slightly compromised, right?
@SuperMyfamily01
@SuperMyfamily01 13 лет назад
I would like a more in-depth look at the final mating attack. At 12:37 you say "it probably would've been a lot smarter if the queen captured on a1 first" - would it have prevented mate? Also, how does white mate at 14:18 if black plays f6 instead of Na6? I'm guessing neither move would save black since the "immortal game" doesn't really seem a very fitting name if black lost by missing such simple moves, but it would have been interesting to look into this more.
@sejlali1
@sejlali1 8 лет назад
sjd83 You've probably realised by now but if Qe1+ then kxe1! Basically the king just takes the queen so besides it not been checkmate with the escape square of f3 if e1 was covered, it's just giving up the queen for no reason at all.

can someone explain to me why that black pawn move at 6:38 from F4 to G3 works?
@rikzz0r
@rikzz0r 8 лет назад
+Marco King 'en passant' is when an enemy pawn is on rank 5 and the player tries to pass this pawn with their own by using it's initial 2 step move. The pawn on rank 5 can capture this enemy pawn even tho they are next to each other, as if the caputured pawn only moved 1 instead of 2 squares. It's the only chess capture where the piece that captures is not on the square where the piece that got captured was.

at 2:17, why not move pawn to g3 to block the check then if black pawn takes back at g3 white would move knight to f3, threatening the queen and opening up for a castle on the king's side?

At 13:00 what would happen if black bishop went d6 taking white bishop instead of the rook?
@Felix-rc4wv
@Felix-rc4wv 9 лет назад
checkmate in 3. Knight takes bishop on d6, check. King to d8. Queen takes pawn on f8, threatening queen f8 checkmate (or e7, e8). Black can't do much to stop this. For instance, If black moves Nh6, queen to e7 checkmate. If black moves queen back to e5, queen to f8 check, black then moves queen to e8, queen takes queen checkmate.
@eddypilon
@eddypilon 13 лет назад
@SuperMyfamily01 Oh and playing f6 : Nxg7+, Kf7, Nxf6 (king can't take on g7 because: Ne8+, Kh6, Qf4+) and now there is nothing to prevend Nxd7+ (discovered queen attack) and letting the queen do it's mate.
