IMMSource is the latest Chinese company to enter the DD market with not one but TWO DD offerings. The ET3 comes in at 10NM and the ET5 is 17NM. Although there are similarities to some existing products, we see some GREAT innovations here! From backlit buttons which double as a flag box to intelligent sim-based profiles, true wireless technology without any pins for power and no less than SIX USB expansion slots for further eco-system products. This is pretty exciting. Could this become my new favourite DD brand? Oh yeah, and apparently it has native console support...

DISCONTINUED. DO NOT BUY. They haven’t responded to me since April. It seems that they have vanished. The hardware was awesome but the ffb firmware was crap. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Great video one again Laurence👌 Im glad all these DD wheel bases were not available when I was going DD. Really don't envy someone looking to upgrade in the current market. It is great to see the rapid progression of sim racing hardware over the past couple of years though👍🏻

Another relatively affordable option is always good - they seem to be being pumped out at quite the rate these days! Personally love how clean everything looks, both the unit and the wheel rim!

Great unboxing and first impressions as we are used of you by now. Nice to see the DD market populize more, even if it seems a little like another clone. We'll see how they do in the long run. I like the shift lights and the fact you can have the functionality like the pit limiter and the flags on the buttons. Hope it can also be disabled tho. :D Software also seems to be in its early stages with the calibration etc, but competition is nice. Said it before and will say it again tho, with how close Simagic, Moza and Immsource are, at least from what it looks to the outside, I really wish the 3 worked together and created one high quality brand that combines all the features and benefits from all of them into one. Its tough to sell "another copy" when brands like simagic have proven their worth already and worked out most of their kinks and cost the same money. At the same time simagic is also a little stagnant currently. I know they will probably release their handbrake soon, but some more wheel options would be nice and their competitors all come with clutch pedals now without extra costs and with additional features the simagic round wheel lacks like shift lights and 7 way switches.

yep I agree with most things you're saying for sure. I like that they're 3 companies from the same part of the world pushing one another to their limits though. That's going to make a huge difference here and to date, Moza hasn't really challenged Simagic as far as I can see, but it looks like IMMSource are on the right path

This is a production model. However, with companies who iterate and improve, there may be improvements in the pipeline which will make it even better. However, when a product makes a great first impression like this, there's nothing to worry about. They're nailed almost everything. Now it's Simagic's turn to make a move!

yep that MOZA GS rim is the best thing they have going right now. The R9 seems to be very well priced too so it's an interesting market for sure! I have the CAMMUS 10nm wheelbase arriving in the coming days too. Choice is great! Thanks for the comment

Oh the pain you where feeling at 23:00 just so you know it's normal to have to move all the controls to there extreems for a section of caliberation during the timer (4 padles in this case) and release them before the end. Each time you caliberate it clears the memory so you have to train all of the controls for the section.

I’m quite aware of how calibration works. But this calibration was not intuitive or smooth to do. When I clicked them slowly and individually the calibration went wrong. It was only when I mashed all the controls that I got a lucky calibration.

Interesting. My Corsair headset has some interference as well when I race with my Alpha. I thought it's perhaps because it's older already. Do other headphones have this same issue you think? If I would like to upgrade my headset do you have any recommendations? I'm currently using my Sony wX1000m3s connected through Bluetooth with no issues but I'd like to use a gaming headset. Great to see more competition coming into the market. Great video!

It's not wireless interference though, that's the odd thing. It's purely software based and only occurs when I open the IMMSource software. I had the exact same issue with MOZA

Definitely looks interesting. The software gremlins you've encountered can be expected from a relatively new product, however not really at that pricepoint. Build quality looks very decent tho. But it is a shame that it's another product that isn't compatible with the universal wheeldeck from simlab. Not everyone is comfortable with drilling new holes in their hardware, or want to buy another mounting deck. Few positives, few negatives for me. Especially at the pricepoint of the ET5, there are a few things that would hold me back purchasing this. It's maybe a little nitpickish, but there are some clear issues currently that are holding me back. Unpacking a new product, to then having to mash the gear shifters to get them reading correctly in the software is really the biggest one 😅

hahaha teething issues :) But yeah, most devices don't need calibration in order to work in their most basic form. The fitment thing with the wheeldeck is actually the same issue I had with the Simetik K2 back in the day. No 'fanatec mounting pattern'. I do prefer my front mount plate anyways but it could be an issue for some people.

Hey Laurence, do you know if you can attach another wheel other than the wheel that comes with it. Just don’t have the money for the wheel as well so it would be great if it would work with standard 70mm bolt pattern wheels

yep you just need an NRG/Simagic/Moza/IMMSource/AccuForce style Quick Release and you can fit anything to that really :p

More companies making affordable DD wheels! RU-vid algorithm kicking in... I saw a video of the Moza R9 which I would say another direct competition the Fanatec CSL DD. What a great time for every sim racer enthusiast! The distinction will boil down to which has the best software to handle most popular game titles out there. And who has the best ecosystem compatibility.

@@LaurenceDusoswa With the growing pains of COVID in China I hope it will not disrupt production and shipment from Sim Magic, Moza and IMMSource. The Moza software looks very promising and I'm hoping Sim Magic will get similar updates in the future. One last thing, the USB ports at the back of the IMMSource wheel base, are they universal or specific for IMMSource products only? Thanks!

@@MrAdamgw1 apparently they are in a lockdown again so supply will definitely be impacted. Yeah Simagic is lagging a bit behind in the software department but it’s still possible to get the best out of the wheelbase. As for the USB ports on the immsource, they’re for immsource products only

@@LaurenceDusoswa Italy on the other hand is suffering from transportation strike, hence, deliveries are delayed and making it harder for manufacturers like Cube Controls to fulfill their customer orders on time. I think I should open my own company for sim racing controls.

Great vid LD, now im torn between the Simagic and IMMsource. The IMMsource rim is way better looking and has more functions in my opinion but simagic has a more matured software. Waiting on for your long term review before making the decision!

I would say Simagic is the safer bet because of software maturity. It took a long time for Simagic's software to mature and they've already got solid hardware.

@@lawrenegummy4736 I'm going immsource solely for the button box. I can't live without a hat switch, and those wings at the top of the simagic button box can hurt your fingers quite a lot when drifting Edit: Nevermind. I used an ET5 for a week and the software is horrible. Going Moza instead.

Please note: the firmware on this device is not up to par an I currently cannot recommend it. This is the reason I haven’t completed my long term review yet. The forces going over centre are pretty terrible. You can see in this video that it’s very bouncy but I didn’t highlight it as I felt it was probably just a settings issue. There was nothing I could do in the software to work around this which was disappointing.

I just ordered the ET5 after seeing your video and Barry’s also. I’ve received it and set up and just getting to grips with it as I came from the T300rs it feels a bit weird. The only thing I can’t figure out is how to set the dual clutch,so if you would be able to show how it’s done when you do either the ET5 or ET3 that would be so helpful.

nope, no battery. It's just a wireless power pad similar to a wireless phone charger. It's clever stuff. I love it!

Hi man, another great review! Try lowering Game Damper, it may be too intense in the firmware (assetto corsa doesn't know how much damper is active, intesity is in ffb wheel firmware, assetto corsa only sets relative intensity 0 to 100% of device available damper intensity, whatever it is). Damper, inertia, friction are almost always in ffb wheel firmware, independent of the game (usb standard).

With some wheelbase software, especially from some of the chinese companies, 100 means 0/neutral if you can slide it to 200 and to 0. It's kinda weird. So I always give it the benefit of the doubt and these were my first impressions so I didn't want to spend too long on it. Thanks for the suggestions though!

Surprisingly close. And even better in some ways. I think the Alpha has more power, even though it has 2nm less on paper. I also think that the alpha ffb is potentially more refined BUT I haven't spent enough time with the ET5 to make a proper judgement on that.

The ffb in ACC is just not that communicative when compared to AC. The GT class of car isn’t really that involving from a ffb point of view either.

That’s because these motors all have a set shape and form factor already. Remember that these motors existed long before sim racing adopted them for force feedback.

I low key think the hardware are from the same supplier as Simagic, since both IMM-source and Simagic are Chinese company in Shenzhen. Difference would be more towards software level.

lots of steering wheel hardware differences too, and the shell of the simagic bases is actually quite different when it comes to mounting options. the different bolts, bolt patterns and completely different controller layout make a big difference too

@@LaurenceDusoswa simfai-solutions sell both and seem to list the IMMSource under Simagic. The cases may be different but I wouldn't be surprised if the same manufacturer made both products. More wheel bases means more innovation and competition which is good. I wonder what you'd find inside it, would it work with the simagic software?

@@karade Simfai solutions is a distributor from Sinagpore providing mulitple products for SIM racing including IMMS and SImagic wheelbases. It is not the manufacturer. They are both based in China.

It is obvious that the internals of all of these new DD bases all came from the same source and are now being cranked out in large numbers in Shenzhen. The bases all have the same general small size and are probably similar in overall feel I bet. In the end it is all a good thing for us. It may cause Fanatec not to raise their prices on the DD bases.

Not sure why anyone would go for this over the Simucube sport or save a bit more money and get the Simucube 2 pro which i have a what a piece of hardware it is. In some Sims like Iracing with certain Cars i can feel individual tire flex as in from each of the 4 tyres which my Simucube 1 OSW couldn't give me

@@LaurenceDusoswa Ive tried the simagic m10 and Mini, i also tried the Moza and i think it all came down too software imo but i don't have any data too give a definitive answer on what was best but they all felt relatively similar the stronger the more pronounced the ffb was but i wouldn't say it felt different between each one. I have no idea what motor the moza base uses if its indeed the same sort of motor but it did feel similar Ive also tried my friends Simucube 2 sport and i own the SC2 PRO before that the ioni pro Simucube 1 osw system and also use a close friends Fanatec often so i do have a look of experience with DD wheel bases but no where near as in depth as your self.

@@LaurenceDusoswa But no never used this base i just think even if its on par i cant see it being better why would you choose it over Simucubes well known CS and quality plus it's well documented how good the simucube bases are. If it was a little cheaper maybe but for me i would rather save up a little extra and get the Simucube sport or save a little more for the pro

@@Simlife101 you have a good range there but the m10 and alpha mini are already worlds apart. I agree that the SC2 pro is probably the most refined ffb on the market but that certainly doesn’t make all the other cheaper servo based solutions irrelevant by any means. There are many many advantages to even this ET5 compared to an SC2. Like the QR, power transmission to the wheel, backlit buttons, clutch paddle support which sc2 doesn’t have in wireless mode and of course the price. They’re just a handful of reasons that make this a good alternative. I owned an SC2 sport. I reviewed the SC2 pro. I chose the Simagic alpha over those because it suited me better despite the ffb being slightly better with the SC2 pro. The sport was very close in feeling to the alpha.

In the end it all comes down to support and software, the hardware at this point appears that they are all using the same few manufacturers and just copying each other

I have to disagree to be honest. There are similarities for sure, as with cars, cameras, monitors, PCs, knives, tables, chairs, you name it. But there are very clear differences to me which definitely make a huge impact when buying these products

Seems like a lot of these style bases are popping up. They almost look the same as each other lol but it couldn't just be a Chinese cheap motor being sold

These motors all look similar because they have real world uses beyond sim racing and already existed before we started using them for sim racing. Having used the likes of the Simagic alpha for 2 years now, I can’t say a bad word about the quality.

What gave you the impression that it was a review 😂 this is a first impressions, unboxing and first drive video, as mentioned several times in this video. It also mentions that the review is coming in the next few weeks. But you probably skipped right to the last section and didn’t watch the whole thing. That’s why you learnt nothing meaningful. Honestly it’s disheartening to get comments like yours. I’m putting effort in and you should too.
