Very surprising feedback for what I thought was superior in many ways. Makes me feel good about my decision to have the Simagic Alpha. I did not have these compromises and so far speak highly of its FFB translation. Thanks Will!

I was looking at buying either the Simagic Alpha or the IMMSOURCE ET5 to upgrade from my CSL DD. I did weeks of research and came to the conclusion that I was looking at a side-grade rather than an upgrade. Decided to go the Simucube Pro route as my one-stop upgrade in the direct drive market. Glad I made this choice.

@@StatsGam4erI know this is very old now but what are your thoughts on the simucube? Debating between getting the r16 or waiting a bit longer and getting a wheel base Ill probably never need to upgrade

@@animationmaster4 No intention of going back to anything else since I got my Simucube 2. Its ample in every regard. Buy once and live with it. Great software too, you can really dial in how you want it to feel without any drawbacks.

Hi! Do you know how to change signal channel of wheelhub? Like in Simagic M10 Channel software. When two immsource wheelbases separates closely they interrupring each other.

Will, next time when you do a review like this, could you also talk about how it feels to spin the shaft of the wheelbase freely without any wheels on? At the hardware overview section maybe? I know you always do the "pit test" but i feel like this would be a nice addition to the process.

Do you mean with the base turned off? I’d so, this is a meaningless test as without the motor being energised, none of the torque ripple mitigation strategies are operational. Motors that can feel notchy when turned off are perfectly smooth when powered on.

@@boostedmedia thanks for your answer! i was specifically curious about this because Simagic advertise their Alpha mini wheelbase with "Minimum static force 0.01 Nm (for unprecedented smoothness)". I'm not exactly sure what they mean by that or how much of a relevant *feature* it truly is, but i always thought this was something to do with the quality of the ball bearings which support the motor, and something to be checked for when the base is off. What do you think?

That’d would be with the motor energised. Same as what I do in the “pit test”. It’s a function of the interface between the magnets and coils. Read up on “torque ripple” :)

Which one would you recommend for someone who will be coming off of a Logitech G923. The 17nm or the 10nm ?

Neither. I’d buy something else. There’s other products which offer a superior driving experience for a far lower price. Look at the Moza R9 for example.

@@boostedmedia Yea that's what i was thinking i may go with the the Moza R9 or the Simagic Alpha mini. Now I know you did not have a good experience with their customer service but I hear really good things about the hardware.

Do you have to use the QR system, or can you just bolt on directly?

You could bolt directly to the shaft with an appropriate adaptor like what VRS sells. The base will operate without a wheel attached

I’ll do a review when I can get proper access. Just didn’t really see the justification to travel half way around the world to get a few minutes of driving time and cover exactly the same thing as everyone else. If it had been local I would have gone for sure.

@@boostedmedia Understandable, I had just assumed you were invited since Boosted Media is pretty much setting the standard lately when it comes to excellence in providing top tier sim racing content within the community. But like you said, it was half way around the world. and not everyone is able to just drop everything on a whim like that. So I get it. Hope you didn't take my comment as negative or instigating. I probably could have worded it differently, looking at back it now.

Someone is recommending I purchase the GRID P911 Steering Wheel V2 from Grid Engineering. Before I make such purchase I will wait for my go to YT channel, Boosted Media, to review it when it gets released.

i feel like the problem is there is no history or heritage behind these brands, it seems like another company that makes these motors that is trying to break into the sim racing industry but dont really have the know how to make it work, it kind of all started with simagic out of china and people were so excited to have a new cheaper option they obviously sold well regardless of growing pains, thankfully they are at a point where the experience and profits they have gained is enough to make them competent. I fear its starting to explode a bit now and the market has quite a few options that are already better, even out of china and at a good price so i can see why this would be hard to recommend. its quite like the headphone/IEM market where up until around 2012 there were a handful of big names in the industry and then the ''chifi'' market exploded with manufacturers throwing multiple drivers into an in ear phone and selling them cheep not knowing that the time spent tuning and developing the earphone is what made the big brands and products great at the time, still they were cheap and people bought them and today its a ''chifi'' industry, the big names like shure have as good as given up on that market. anyway clearly rambling, i have a slight fear for the industry, we might lose the passion for manufacturers to spend the R&D time developing a good product if the market is flooded with products that are not so good but so cheap everybody buys them and never takes a second look at anything else. This is very likely the problem thrustmaster face, they have the brand power but are likely having trouble keeping up with the ever growing world of cheap chinese direct drives. hate to be so negative but you know when you get the feeling we are months away from yet another direct drive from an unknown manufacturer.

These products look like Chinese knock-offs from the Simucube. Selling at a much cheaper price point, but inferior quality.

If you watch the video we were able to get rid of that feeling too, but it came with too many other compromises in our opinion.

I watched his video after we recorded this and agree with most of his observations. Just feels like you’re constantly chasing your tail and making compromises which is pretty much his conclusion as well if you read between the lines.
