Toll Like Receptors: The GateKeepers of Innate Immunity
Innate immunity as the first line of defense
The innate immune system is an ancient host defense mechanism found in almost every multicellular organism from plants to humans. In invertebrates it is the sole mechanism of defense against pathogens but in higher vertebrates constitutes the first line of defense. The role of the innate immune system is not an insignificant one; not only must it discriminate between self and non-self as well as distinguish between pathogenic and non-pathogenic microbes, it also plays an important role in triggering and optimizing the adaptive immune response. This remarkable system allows an immediate non-specific response against microorganisms whereas the adaptive immunity mounts a specific response against the invading pathogen during the late phase of the infection.

B7 molecules are B7.1 (CD80) and B7.2 (CD86). They both bind CD28 to sustain T cell activation.

This video seems to be targeted to one who already knows the whole process but feels jumbled and would like animated description. Last time I watched i didn't get a things but now I can see why i didn't. So proper description is better to target larger audience

Read in textbook and come back and watch. This is a good video to a clear picture. PS: I read Veterinary Immunology by Ian Tizard 10th Ed before watching this. And it gave a super good clarity. You can choose your own books too.

This is absolutely terrible and if anyone is seriously using this video to study immunology shame on you. Its a good animation and its cool you're trying to make it entertaining but most of your info is wrong. First of all you didnt get the signaling pathway right and I seriously wanted to rip my hair out when I saw cytokines and CD80 coming out of the NFkB. What kind of BS is that!!!! NFkB is a transcription factor not a polymerase or a ribosome. What ever happened to the transcript leaving the nucleus and being translated into a protein by the ribosome? If you can't even get the central dogma of biology right than maybe you shouldn't be teaching people immunology.

Thank goodness you already commented on this glaring mistake. I was baffled and then appalled by the cytokines flying off the chromosome as NFkB appeared to act as RNA polymerase and a ribosome all at once. Yikes.

@gerbilinatube CD 80 is another name for B7 and yes it links with CD28 as a costimulator for T cell ( in this case, CD4 , helper T cells) activation

Very nice and well made animation. However, there are some parts I don't understand. For example, I don't know why the dude CD80/CD86 at 2:31 got stuck at the cell membrane. LOL. This might be for higher level in immunology. It would be nicer if there is explanation going along with the video.

This video has it's downs and it's downs for animation unless someone actually has some what of a idea of what gose on in the immune system already then this video will do nothing but confuse someone honestly the animation are cool and the 3D rendering of the animation and cells was done amazingly but it's to goofy this would be great for a 8th grade biology teacher though i imagine it being one of those stupid videos that the teacher explains but the students just laugh at for weeks but take just a little from it because they remembered the material they we're laughing at for the test/exams/quizzes/projects after it so for school use with a explanation its a solid 8 for personal use with no voice over or explanation it's a heavy negative -1 will only confuse a normal simple minded person that is not currently looking into the immune system

Not sure who the audience is - the animations are clearly made for kids. No narration, and only chemical names for everything, feels like the rest of the video is made for lecturers and grad students.
