Fwiw it comes on when the governor is active. They are quite generous here at 148, but usually it says that at something more uninteresting like 112 or maybe 116. After that no more fun unless you reflash.
@@WetSleeves259 I had a Red 06' SS Monte Carlo same mods as this guy. I broke that trashy transmission twice. Without breaking the bank that car was not affordable to build. So I sold it and brought a Hellcat!
@@charliewilson9723yup although the engine was quite cool for a front wheel drive car. The Oldsmobile aurora was better for a fwd V8 car. It was a Northstar but designed by olds to be better.
+erick5598 rwd with 6 speed would be perfect but now they make so many cars like this rwd the only rwd 4 door u can get that is v8 is a caddy a charger or a Chevy SS 2016
+StraightPipe Gaming actually I have an AWD Charger now. There are days I miss the Impala was just saying it would have been a lot more fun to drive :)
In my opinion, this is truly the last special car that GM put out in the 21st century, along with the last gen Monte Carlo SS. I really wish I had one, but it ain't easy to find em since there were only like 1500 built. But just the fact that it's a front wheel drive V8, big bodied Impala; when you think of a modern Impala you think of an LT with the v6. Not that interesting. But THIS. The sound, and the acceleration. The long gear ratios. A VERY special car. Badass af.
Thanks for saying that I really like mine. I hear more dissing on it because fwd but I could care less, it"s fast, rare, and the last Impala SS ever made. And you can drive all winter !!
I had one of these for my first car, got it for $2800 used, had a couple quirks at first. Like the back doors not unlocking with the key signals, and you could end get out of the back without having someone open the door for you from the outside(for this reason me and my friends often joked and called the back the rape seats, not very tasteful but we were 16 at the time), that and when you would pump gas the tank was weird and made the pump auto stop a lot. It also had a bad paint job, which was the only thing out of these quirks that I fixed. In that car I had so many first, first dates, first time driving on a road trip, first time changing a flat, a first kiss. Plus tons of other funny memories and near death experiences due to my careless driving, but thankfully as time went on I got better. Got it with around 120k miles on it and got it up around 200k over the 5 years I owned it. But by then end of its journey it was more of a metal death trap than a car. The power steering pump went out, the auto break system died, started having to replace a headlight or rear light about once a month, the ac made these awful clicking noises, the air filter needed replacing, one tire was a bit bent, and the traction control was out as well, so instead of trying to fix it all up, I ended up trading it in just yesterday... I almost wished I could hug it and get a better good bye after all it got me through, maybe just one last cruise would be nice, but oh well. It was also one of the few thing I felt I owned for a while since I saved up to buy it myself, kinda had pride in that as opposed to all the other kids who just got them as gifts. Used it for about 5 years and again I'll say it, I'm gonna really miss that car
Funny you ask! It is in the shop now getting the trans rebuilt. The Impala, Monte Carlo, and Grand Prix with the 5.3 start to have trans issues around 60k to 70k. Mine has 67k on it now and it was still drivable, just have transmission slip once in a while. Told my local Chevy dealer and they said just bring it in and they were going to have the trans rebuilt. Gotta love having a warranty!
Is there any way to remove that speed limiter? I've got a 2006 impala LS and mine too is limited to 107 mph (172 km/h in mine because of the metric system where I live I needed to convert it for you) but I know for a fact that it wanted to go faster. I believe it could.
+Tube Sausage 69 if you want to pass the cruise control speed limit just set your cruise control at the max and keep pushing the accelerate button on your steering wheel. It works but you didn't hear it from me
Yes he can do whatever you want. He is a personal friend and has tuned several of my cars, and always done a great job. He did tune out the DoD. I've always been very happy with his tunes. The biggest thing you will notices is in your shift points, and the over all acceleration. Im sure he will use my tune as a base line for your car. I think you will be very happy and it will be well worth the money. If you are local and wanna chat more message me on here and I can give you my contact info.
Very impressive I wasn't expecting that I've smoked my friends 08 before but it's stock, for what little you've done it sounds fantastic and that thing hauls! You don't live around SC do you? I'd love to race you at the orangeburg strip!
Nice, is it tuned to only do that in 2nd? I only ask cuz i know some older automatic GM transmissions if you left it in 1st it was "sport mode". I have an 06 SS w/ K&N & Magnaflow catbacks too. Nice rides and good work on your tune!
This is the perfect exmaple of why GM should not throw away the American muscle icons like the SS impala, although V8 engines are being phased out for newer lighter turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injected 4cyl andV6 engines that act like a V8 but a 4cyl and V6 cannot match the roaring sound of a Chevy SS.
Well my 2011 LT is doing just fine so far, shifts before going into the red. Doesn't change the fact that in the video he was still manually shifting into first, second and third.
Ford.Car.Reviews I am obsessed with fords and i can tell you impala are no slouch or a crappy car. I own a 2011 crown vic police interceptor and there is a reason why they keep making impalas because there good cars all around in a price point most people can afford so before making such a claim do some research.
Vegas edward no. There pretty much shit. They have too many significant issues before 100k miles. I had to rebuild the transmission on my ss. Now I'm fighting with the abs and traction control and various other sensors and wiring harnesses.my power steering is getting weird as well. My gf has an lt. That's not too good either. I want to love this car. It has a ton of balls behind it and its big and fun and bad with gas and manners like an American car should be, but there's too much shit going wrong. Regardless I'm still putting super 44's on it. 😃
One the transmissions on these cars were garbage. Two that being said this car had a build trans when the stock one when out on me after 11,000 miles with normal driving. Three this video the car had a built trans. Finally I got rid of the car 10 years ago.
Yup! They put this 5.3 in the Impala SS, Monte Carlo SS same years, and Grand Prix GXP same years. The Grand Prix was the lightest of the 3 and had the widest front tires from the factory as well. Was a fun car just wish they were rear wheel drive. :(
Yeah you can find them for sale once in a while, never seen one though. Gotta be pretty rare. But Chevy is coming out with the G8 platform again, this time rebadged as a Chevy SS with the 6.2 LS2 and 400+ hp. Hell yeah!
i have a 2006 Police w/ 3.9L it will hit 90 on on-ramps, ok separation speed at a stop light (nothing like my old '05 STS), but the real fun is from 55 to 125 (limiter).... fast as hell w/ 4 speed around 4500 rpm. My next car will be a Impala SS, having said that, there is no envy.
Is it almost a guarantee that if you have one of these cars you will have to replace or rebuild the transmission eventually, and is there a better option for a transmission that you can purchase?
I am in contact with Klug Performance regarding a tune on my 2006 Grand Prix GXP. I have a K&N CAI and Magnaflow catback exhaust system. Did you notice a decent difference? I would be going to him for the tune, not doing the mail in system. Is it worth the $235. Did he tune out DOD?
I have the LTZ which is the 3.9L. When I first drove the car I was damn impressed with the power and acceleration of these cars. My friends and I can't believe the power these v6s bring, my ltz beat my friends 00 Mustang Cobra in a 1/4 drag...
only 0-60 in 7.5 secs. not really fast. just never drove or been in any fast car? i was like that years ago with my wifes g6, v6, couldnt believe the power. really wasnt that powerful.
Transmission because they were garbage in these cars. That 5.3 was a great motor but GM definitely did not have the best transmission behind them. Mine was rebuilt at 62k. Knew a few guys who had their's rebuilt almost every 30k miles.
Just_A_Z71 I’m looking for one right now but there getting bought in seconds so I might not have much luck in getting one, but do they make these with manual or just automatic?
you always here of foreign cars like honda and toyota lasting well over 300,000miles easy im curious what is the highest mileage ever been recorded on original engine in a impala?
knightrider1545 Well yea the 8.1 was a truck engine for the 3/4 and 1 ton pickups, not meant for cars. It had lots of torque for towing if you prefer gas over diesel.
Back in 2004 we had the last year a 2002 Pontiac Trans Am it was a leftover it was in the showroom for its whole life. somebody bought it four over sticker price I took it out for a PDI run " pre-delivery inspection" anyways long story short I got to 95 miles per hour out of second gear it was a 6-speed revlimiter a kicked-in I took it back to the dealership and great disgust good luck to whoever buys one.you need to chip it "reprogram the PCM power control module"
I’m here because I just raced one of these this morning. On my way home from work and my F150 5.0 he punched it first from about 30 mph. He was a car like that of me all the way till 80mph when I walked by him. He looked over like what the fuck
Im confused he was holding it in second gear all the way to 100 but wasn't that a shift at 0:28? but if you look at the screen it still says second so what was that shift?
1st gear 0-50 2nd 50-109- 3rd 109-can't find out, 4th gear useless. Granted GM designed this car for gas mileage but seriously, so much wrong with this platform. At minimum the SS model should have been RWD with a 6speed manual option. My Impala ( 2007 LT with a 3.9l) shifts 0-45 in 1st, 2nd is 45-93mph and 3rd 93-113mph(tops out). 4th is just OD for gas mileage.
Erick, aren't you concerned that you will damage the transmission on your Impala by doing this? I don't think that the 4T65E transmissions were built for this kind of racing unless you have a performance transmission.
