Whilst the specifics of Chaos may not be known by the average Imperial Citizen, I think that "Ruinous Powers" is in fact a vague, widely known boogeyman enemy that the Imperium does propagandize about. So while your average citizen will not understand what Chaos and Daemons are, they will recognize chaotic insignias (like the pointed star) as marks of the "Ruinous Powers".

The part "makes it clear that the Guardsmen are helpless against an armored vehicle" is useless when the commissar yells "Fix bayonets" at you as a Baneblade approaches

Logistics was a problem not cus the imperium was incompetent but the lack of stable warp travel. Generally, in a relatively peaceful world where a regiment is on guard duty/ furlough, and that world/subsector is not overburden with tens to hundreds of regiments, it would not be a problem for logistics and medical care. When its a contested sector, where the local logistics are already unable to support the PDF units raised to stem an invasion, add the reinforcements of guard regiments, the logistical strain would break. Even if it has been planned, the supplies have to come from somewhere in the imperium. Supply is not constant and steady when warp travel is used. Piracy also poses an additional strain on the logistical train, and in contested zones in a war, supply to the frontlines are going to be even more vulnerable, from raiding parties to convoy ambushes. Besides, the way the imperium strategy works in regards to planetary/sector defense, is that a world will handle its shit, if it gets bigger, the subsector will takeover, drawing manpower and supplies from the local subsector, then if that is too big, the main sector will takeover.

Same, was wondering why the thumbnail was recognisable. As much as you want to show the brutality and horrors of the 40k universe, It's tasteless to use pictures from our history. Even if in lore, every single type of units exist in the 40k universe, and a ww1 french style unit can exist in lore, that is what it is a fantasy lore. There are many pictures, art that could be used but this is not it. Especially, after the war, the veterans who were disfigured and broken lived hard and terrible lives.
