Very good explanation on Imperialism. Fast forward to today, and we can see how the rise of China, and Russia along with the slight "decline" of American influence, along with 5G capabilities, and who is going to control that technology; we can see why Venezuela is such an important country to those powers. Venezuela, if not resolved quickly, could become the epicenter of imperialist rivalry.
A fine analysis. I’m an American trade unionist, a dying breed. I’m not a revolutionary by any means but clearly I understand and agree with some socialist ideas. Like it is popular saying in America, separation between church and state. Not at many believers as there once were. The saying still applies should evolve to separation between ideology and state. America is unique in the way we have freedom of speech and the power is with the individual by law. I don’t need an unbridled capitalist nor a radical socialist in control of the levers of govt power. The only agreed upon contract is we will live and let live and protect our borders from the radicalism that is ingrained in the rest of the world. As stated the forces which were defeated in America’s founding are within but the people must constrain those forces with the ideals we have stated in our unique constitution.
Please read this short book on Fascism: eastsidemarxism.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/michael-parenti-blackshirts-and-reds-rational-fascism-and-the-overthrow-of-communism.pdf Here is a taste, keep in mind this book was written in 1997. The Italian neofascists were learning from the U.S. reactionaries how to achieve fascism's class goals within the confines of quasi- democratic forms: use an upbeat, Reaganesque optimism; replace the jackbooted militarists with media-hyped crowd pleasers; con- vince people that government is the enemy-especially its social service sector-while strengthening the repressive capacities of the state; instigate racist hostility and antagonisms between the resident population and immigrants; preach the mythical virtues of the free market; and pursue tax and spending measures that redistribute income upward. Conservatives in the Western nations utilize diluted forms of the fascist mass appeal. In the USA, they propagate populist-sounding appeals to the "ordinary Middle American" while quietly pressing for measures that serve the interests of the wealthiest individuals and corporations. In 1 996, right-wing Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich, while proffering a new rollback agenda that supposedly would revitalize all of society, announced "I am a genuine revolutionary." Whether in Italy, Germany, the United States, or any other country, when the Right offers a "new revolu- tion" or a "new order;' it is in the service of the same old moneyed interests, leading down that well-trodden road of reaction and repression that so many Third World countries have been forced to take, the road those at the top want us all to travel.
Okay, calling Iran imperialist is a bit much. They're trying to defend themselves against imperialism and they were vital in defeating isis. Turkey has actually occupied territory without good reason.
Interesting discussion, but don't write off American imperialism. Like Rome, America is unique, such empires only coming once or twice every millenium. Like Rome, its transformation into a full blown empire impoverished the common people, however this was not the end. Rome lasted in the East until 1452. It is not why Rome fell, but why it lasted so long. Its end happened when it could not reinvent itself. At that time, revolution can happen/
"When we get ready to take the United States, we will not take it under the labels of Communism we will not take it under the label of *Socialism*. These labels are unpleasant to the American people, and have been speared too much. We will take the United States under labels we have made very lovable; we will take it under *Liberalism*, under *Progressivism*, under *Democracy*. But take it we will.” - Alexander Trachtenberg at the National Convention of Communist Parties, Madison Square Garden, 1944.
@@furlan1743 Wow, Thats a new one lmao. We are so lucky you're here so that you can finally explain to us what the state and revolution is actually about and what one of the greatest revolutionaries in history (a lifelong marxist who played a leading role in October and built organized, and commanded the Red Army) got wrong!
