Import an STL File into VCarve and Aspire Version 11.0 and Newer
More down here ↓↓↓ Click SHOW MORE!
In this video, I’ll show you how to Import and STL 3D file into Vectric VCarve (Desktop and Pro) and Aspire, Version 11.0 and later. We’ll first Create a New File, and set up a single-sided job. I’ll immediately got into the Modeling tab, then show you which icon to use to Import a 3D Component or Model.
Then I’ll show you how to Orient the model using the Preset Orientation axes in the Orientation form. Then we’ll explore the finer adjustments that can be made to the model orientation. We’ll then scale and size the model to fit within our material. I’ll also share a tip on how to handle a model that either imports way smaller than expected, or way larger than expected.
Finally, we’ll place the model on the Modeling Plane, check for Undercuts, and import the model into the 3D view. Along the way, I’ll also show you how to re-import the model should you need to.
As usual, if you have any comments or questions about anything I covered in this video, please join me for the Live Q&A, or put ‘em in the comment section below.
On Sunday, June 5th, I’ll be hosting a LIVE Q&A session, where you can ask your questions pertaining to anything I’ve covered in this video. That Q&A starts at 3 pm Eastern time, Noon Pacific time. Hope to see you there!

Mark, thanks for this tutorial. It was to the point with enough information for me to learn, and not so much that I got confused. I appreciate you for doing videos like this. Wish I could catch a live Q&A sometime

Hey, first time I see your channel. Very useful. I am new to Vcarve and had been struggling with importing files. So this helped a lot Thx . It would have been cool if you would have finished the process and generate rough and final pass toolpaths... maybe next video...

You would be amazed at how long it took me to figure out how to get rid of those jagged edges. Not many people talk about things like that - they assume you already know what you're doing. Well, someone (like me) who had never done it before needs to know that kind of thing. That's why I try to include so much detail. (It's also why my videos are so long and boring. lol) Thanks for checking it out, and I hope it helped you out!

Hi Mark, I'm trying to carve a tree of life and place the zero plan at the base of my material. No idea on how to do this. I have v carve pro 11.504. I have watched your tutorial a few times. My version does not show "apply perceptive along Z" only -initial ordination and Model size boxes. Am I missing something? how do i move the z plane within the material? Also thanks for all the tutorials

Mark, Thanks for the great videos. They really teach a lot. However, could you please do a 2 sided, 3D project such as a bowl? I have been struggling to learn this for months and it is just not registering with me. I purchased an STL file from Etsy that I want to make for my wife but am having ZERO luck at getting anywhere. I have Vcarve Pro v11.554. I will soon be updating to v12. Thanks John Reed

Mark, thank you for all of your tutorials. Is there a way to import a topographic map model and then design a circle to go around the map, cutting the excess away? What tool in vectric aspire do you use to do this?
@MarkLindsayCNC
@MarkLindsayCNC Год назад
Thank you, Edward. Importing a topographic map is pretty straight forward, depending on what type of 3D file the map is. For your circle, you can try Level Clipping. I demonstrated it in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kjJL5gKY4XE.html There are other ways of doing it, but Level Clipping is the most versatile.

I do have one really dumb question. I just updated my software and when I opened the drawing tabs are now on the left side sideways. Drives me crazy! I have moved them back to the bottom before but am having a brain fart right now. Can you help me out? Thanks Dave Cable

Go to the EDIT menu, click OPTIONS, and in the top section of that form, look for Tab Location. Click in the box that shows the location (Bottom or Left,) and select the option you want. Click OK, and you're all set.

Hey Mark: After I import my STL file I go through all the settings and when I put the file at the zero plain my file is above the work piece. When I move the zero plain down my file has a lot of gray in it like you said the gray does not get carved. How do I fix this issue. Thanks in advance for your help Rick.

This cleared up my being stuck with modeling. Quick question - I am curious whether the model can be restricted to it's specific size and perimeter dimensions? What I mean is that it seems that the entire board surrounding the modelling object is also carved to the thickness of the object. Using the analogy of a Pocket, can the modelling object be carved within a pocket and leave the surrounding material untouched?
@MarkLindsayCNC
@MarkLindsayCNC 2 года назад
After you get the model imported, you can scale its size and thickness to whatever you need. You can place it into a pocket by drawing a vector that represents the pocket, and using that vector as your machining boundary.

@Eric-yx1gs

@@billhoward1379 Did you figure it out bill as I have the same issue. I know I can put a vector around my model and use that for my 3d roughing and finish, but even if I get that vector very close to the models edge it still goes around it just a bit to a depth I don’t want.
@ca8920
@ca8920 Год назад
Mark, when I switch from the drawing tab to the modeling tab I have no tools? Are the tools like gadgets to be downloaded from Vetric? Vcarve Pro version 11.5.
@MarkLindsayCNC
@MarkLindsayCNC Год назад
The modeling tools in VCarve are extremely limited because VCarve is not a 3D modeling program. You can import, resize, and scale a 3D model, but you cannot create or edit a 3D model in VCarve. I use Aspire, which IS a 3D modeling program, so I have many more modeling tools than you'll find in VCarve.
