Hi Ellen, you are helping so many with your preparedness ideas, I love it! Some things that we stock at our home is lump charcoal for our green egg, self defense items (hole punchers and freedom seeds), canned meats (Keystone is a great brand), also tuna, salmon, sardines, feminine hygiene products, tarps, duct tape, vodka - it can also be used as an antispetic and I make vanilla extract with it. When I can food and have extra space in the canner, I put jars of water in to sterilize the water and store that on the shelf. The sterile water can be used to clean wounds during an emergency or drank if you need water. Also items to barter with that you may not use yourself, but others around you may find of use.
Great food pantry suggestions. Most I have but a few I hadn't thought of. Printing recipes that use items you have is a great suggestion. Another idea is to write on a piece of paper names and phone numbers. I don't know about others but I don't know phone numbers of family and friends like I used to in the old days when all we had was a land line. Those trees at the end of your video are stunning! God's beautiful creation! Enjoy the rest of your evening Ellen.
I watched this in 2 settings, so I don't remember if you mentioned dry milk but that's handy to have. When I was a kid in the 60's it tasted terrible, but I recently started using my stash from 2020 and the dry milk is good especially after chilled. A nonfood item to consider are light bulbs. I saw on the news a few years ago, the last light bulb factory in the USA closed. I googled it and apparently there are a few light bulbs made in the USA now, but most are made in China. Wow, a brilliant thing our politicians have done for us.
@@EllensAbundantLifeonLess Yes they have sold us out, China owns US farmland and oil production/reserves. Their warships and millions of soldiers are ready, where are we? Without a light bulb or bullets.
Ellen, they had these today on Amazon. Floor led lamps battery operated. Regular $115 for I think $23 I got one. I already have one and I love it. Great for reading . I saw where there is getting ready to be a coffee shortage, olive oil shortage and butter. Insert something here------ it will probably be a shortage. Hyper inflation is starting. Instant coffee last for years even though I am not crazy about it. I was in 2 stores today and I saw oil and rice shortage. If you use regular milk buy some shelf stable. A sewing machine is good to have. If you eat meat Hormel Black Label Shelf Stable Bacon will last for 10 years. Nuts will be reduced after Christmas. I like little seashell pasta with browned butter. I ordered a 25 lb. Redmond’s Real Salt. If you buy Crema and shake 20 minutes you get butter. If you buy Bisquik you can have biscuits. Get canned cheese. Aluminum foil.
I've got most of those items in my pantry. Don't forget things like matches, candles, bandaids/medical supplies just in case. I did spend money on Amazon today, things that are pretty much essentials but I guess I could have waited for a month or two on some of the things but I decided to just get what I will need now.
You worked hard for your money and you are retired so have a little fun. We just came back from a trip to the balloon fiesta and an extended( due to the hurricane) stay in Santa Fe New Mexico. It was great ! I am planning on a train trip next. Not sure when or where but that’s the fun of planning. Yes like you I still have repairs on my house to do but I needed a break so I took one.
Happy Wednesday Evening. 11:30pm here and fog is coming in on cat's feet. Love the smell of fog. Great list. You put a lot of thought into it. I am glad you mentioned ghee. Organic ghee is doubled up in my pantry. It is great for making stove top popcorn...so delicious! Big plus is no refrigeration needed. My 2nd must have is a high quality organic protein powder. I stash 2-3 depending on the use-by date. This is an item where the date is important to me. Also Orgain Organic Greens Powder+ 50 Superfoods Blend. Did you mention raisins and dates? Those are my candy. Yum! Canned pumpkin is good to have in case a pet gets a digestive issue. Flax seed keeps BP in check and freeze ginger and tumeric. Baking soda (you may have mentioned that). I like to have a large supply of linens, towels, hand towels, wash cloths and kitchen towels just in case there is a water issue. Raid Repellent in every variety and the Pet Safe insect spray. Ants/ticks/fleas etc. So much to think about. 🥺 So..here is a good one for you. Several days ago I was scrolling thru Insta_G and making some supportive comments on posts like Fox News, TCN, etc etc. Just the rah-rah type. My account got suspended, I appealed and got it back. But I can no longer comment on anything. Not posts of my friends, family. Nada! The message I get each time I try to comment states "We restrict certain activity to protect our commnunity. Based on your use this action will be will unavailable. " The action is commenting. Wow...they must think I am some kind of a political agitator. Saying 'Awesome ...great speech' must now label me as a threat. 😄 They will probably keep me out until after the election being the influencer & cheerleader that I am. 😂 My daughter is taking me to Urgent Care tomorrow morning. Took a few steps backward & don't want to self treat. This too shall pass. 😊🙏🏻 Looking forward to reading everyone's ideas. 😍
@@dianabythebeach oh no! I hope you're ok! 🙏❤️ You came up with some great suggestions for the stash. I have to add a couple of them to my shopping list. Just what we all need, more censorship. It's getting out of hand. You're in my prayers. Godspeed my friend.
Don`t forget to freeze your flour for 3 to 5 days to kill posible bug larves. This was the first year they got into the paper bag after freezing and it was just one of the bags. Never had problems with rice , but I live in Germany, maybe we do not have this kind of bugs here. Love Heike
Hello Ellen! Hope the rest of your test go good! It was in the 80's here today in northeastern Alabama. I'm really not looking forward to the long dark nights of winter it really effects me and always has .I've been through all those same test and then more it is so tiring and frustrating all wrapped in one. I hope the test can give you answers and a solution to the problem. You can also buy the Spanish peanuts that are still in the shell that last along time you can roast them and make boiled peanuts, peanut butter. Homemade Jelly or preserves would be good on hot buttered bread.3min grits are fast but original grits normally take about 30 min or so here in the south.we cook them long time 😊.If i may ask Ellen does your daughter and her family stock canned ,shelf stable meats ( proteins)for her family sense they eat meats during a grid down situation ?I know that you and your son both have prepper pantries but was curious about your other children so there would be enough for everyone that eats meats in your family Hoping its not needed but it'sbetter to have it and not need it than to not have it and need it.I make my own Sourdough starter super easy.YOU CAN USE BUTTERMILK OR DISTILLED WATER ( NEVER TAP OR SPRING WATER , UNBLEACHED ALL-PURPOSE FLOUR IS WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE THE STARTER .HAVE A GREAT NIGHT!
@@donnaallison7462 I don't like the long dark days of winter either. Zaps the energy. My daughter spends a ton of money on food every week. I don't think there's much money left over for too many extras. It's one reason my son and I try to stock extra. My son in law hunts and is teaching the kids. Not a practice I'm fond of but I get it. Then there's the chickens. They don't eat them but I guess if it came down to it, well you know...
I am in no way saying people shouldn’t spend money. I have just spent a fortune on Chester, the stray cat that showed up this summer. In regard to buying things. The first question I ask myself, is do I really need this or do I already have an alternative. 2nd, do I have room for more or is this going to be clutter. 3rd, do I want to take care of it. I save for those big things, I don’t do borrowing. I needed a roof, no problem. I needed a different car, no problem. I need windows and new siding. Come spring that will be happening. It cost 1000’s of dollars when my husband had to have his cornea transplant. I was not worried one bit about the money. I’m not boasting, but proving it is very possible to be financially stable. What made me a better steward to my money was being broke.

Ellen your morning coffee looked so good this morning with the cinnamon! Unfortunately after the now administration no one has extra funds at this point; hopefully things will change for the better after Nov. 5th. 🇱🇷
@@jeancurrie1862 I did enjoy my cup of coffee 😊☕ The money has been stretched and stretched. In this lousy economy people are really struggling. @Notshortever I hope you're right.
At the end of each month, money is tight. For the last week or so, I also turned down going out to lunch. If it's too hard to resist, I'll buy a cheap hamburger with a cup of water with ice.
@@wendykornfein3337 these days we have to get very creative with the money we do have. I think it's important for our mental health to still enjoy some small pleasures. Sometimes I take water enhancers with me and add it to a glass of water when I go out. Having an appetizer for a meal out is also cheaper than an entree.
@@EllensAbundantLifeonLess I have been thinking about flavor packets to put into water. I believe that is what you are referring to regarding flavor enhancers.
