Importing Data to Be Used by Power Apps
Tomorrow, we'll be building an app in Power Apps and we'll need lots of good sample data to build it around. Why not use the legendary Northwind Traders Access database and import it into SharePoint to be used as a data source? This is a great learning exercise on how to import data into SharePoint. Let's hang out on a live stream and get it done.

You should do a refresh using the new northwinds and focus on issues when using dataverse model-driven apps and more on how to prepare to minimize data type mismatches and multi-value lookups and 'unwanted' primary names please.

I'll try to remember this when I circle back on this project. 😁😁👍👍

At <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="68">1:08</a> where you manually fixed the joining table, you can do this: When You have composite keys. Add an Autonumber PK to your junction tables and put a unique multi-field index on the combination of FKs. Then export.

I have been experimenting with the New Versions of Northwind (standard and dev) and using Dataverse migration instead of SharePoint Lists. Gotta pay close attention to data types limitations between Access and Dataverse but if you prep your Tables and Primary Names properly it works great and the best part is you can update the data via power apps (model-driven app or canvas app) and you can then see the updates in Access and/or You dataversere power app environment solution.

Hey, thanks for this. Sometimes do you need to see the laborious process so that we can see how to do those mundane steps. Nothing worse than trying to follow a tut and some magic *just happens* between steps...

I noticed that when when Access exports a table to SP it try to re-create relationships with lookup fields. Is it some useful when creating an app in power apps?
@PowerAppsTutorial
@PowerAppsTutorial 4 месяца назад
When Access exports relationships as lookup fields to SharePoint, it not only helps in maintaining the logical structure of the database but also simplifies the development of related applications like those built with PowerApps. This can lead to better data management practices and enhanced application functionality, leveraging the strengths of SharePoint and PowerApps together.

Are there any specs on the amount of data sharepoint can handle? we are running into issues where we can use the data in sharepoint in queries, but can't seem to modify it at all. like if we sent data to sharepoint, but something changed and we have to delete and resend, we constantly run into errors.

What happens if there are missing primary key IDs in the Access Database? Does Sharepoint skip these IDs automatically? How can you resolve these issues for larger databases where manual corrections are infeasible?

Hi I have a problem when I move my tables to share point I have one table that the conversion create additional fields. One of the field is ID autonumber and is assigned as Primary Key. How can I change the prmary key to the field that I set it before?
@PowerAppsTutorial
@PowerAppsTutorial 7 месяцев назад
Try this method below: -Open your SharePoint list and navigate to the "List Settings" or "Settings" option. -In "List Settings," look for "Indexed columns" to ensure your desired primary key field is indexed. If not, create a new index for it. -Since SharePoint doesn't allow changing the "ID" primary key directly, make your desired field act as a primary key by enforcing uniqueness. Find your field under "List Settings," edit its settings, and set "Enforce unique values" to "Yes." - Modify your list's views and forms to utilize your unique field effectively, ensuring it serves as the primary key for business logic and data relations.

Can you please comment on current methods/best practices when working with the power platform, making model-driven, and canvas apps in a Dataverse environment but you want to create solutions for business as an independent consultant, working indecently and remotely. Specifically, methods to build/design/test your power platform solutions in your own environment, then package it up/export/import the solution and make it work in the Client Organization's environment. Talk about the process, the workflow, the security, and how to best handle licensing.

As a consultant working on Power Platform from afar, the key is to follow a step-by-step process. First, set up a special workspace for your work using tools like Visual Studio Code. Design your solutions with clear plans and security rules. Test everything well to make sure it works correctly. Pay attention to the licenses needed and document everything carefully. When your work is ready, move it to the client's system, fixing any issues along the way. Stay connected with the client through messaging tools, use version control for tracking changes, and create easy-to-understand guides. After your solution is in place, make sure data moves smoothly and double-check everything. Provide ongoing help and training for the people using your solution. This method ensures a smooth and successful process for your clients. 👍 I share alot of tips here in my free community: www.skool.com/power-apps-community

Is it possible to sync files present in the document libraries to local machine using access database?
@PowerAppsTutorial

I would recommend Microsoft OneDrive for that type of task. 😊👍

But we have to sync list data as well..i believe one drive will not support that.. Could you please suggest something where we can sync documents as well as SP lists to local machine

If I had to do exactly what you need there, I would be writing code in Power Shell or C# to do it. It gives you most, if not all, of the flexibility you need.

great video darren, just was curious about this error when transferring from access to sharepoint, something about datatypes, it happened frequently, why is that? anyone knew how to fix it? or we just press yes lol

Access and SharePoint may have different data types for certain fields. For example, Access might use a "Date/Time" data type, while SharePoint uses "Date and Time" or "Text" data types. When migrating, you need to ensure that the data types in Access align with those in SharePoint to avoid errors. ☺️
