@@ricky5369 He can actually talk. He chooses not to on stage, because he believes magic should speak for itself and that every magician is just lying to you anyway. (Paraphrasing). There are many videos out there of him talking off stage. I think the first time I found out was when Penn was on celebrity apprentice over a decade ago. He called Teller for something and asked on camera "hey they are recording, is it okay?" And Teller saying "yeah I don't care." Then went on to converse with Penn about the task on hand. (because he's not on stage preforming as Teller, he at that moment is just Raymond).

Actually impressing Penn and Teller with the perfect execution of a trick is a much bigger price than the actual trophy. When I started watching Fool Us I thought the winning magicians were better but after some time I realized that the trophy is actually not an indication of skill but simply a measure of how good/knowledgeable Penn and Teller really are. It has nothing to do with the performance itself.

Well, you don't need to be very smart to understand that the only way to hide cards and "make them pass thru glass" is using a sleight of hand and angles. People don't know how he does the stuff because it is done very fast and requires training... like one year of training. Magic is not real, but looks real. Even if you know the trick it still looks great. Only losers claim that the audience knowing how the trick is done puts them out of work, because if a magician is good will always find news ways to make old tricks work.
@ghfhgfuuu
@ghfhgfuuu 2 года назад
@@mikatu the secret impresses no one. The trick you use it for is everything. I would wager you have no clue how it's done and you didn't know anything about angles until Penn said something. I was very pleased with the performance because I don't know how it's done and if I knew how it was done it would be much less to me overall. Most people are happy being fooled, which explains a lot...
@LeoStaley
@LeoStaley 2 года назад
I remember one where the magician tried a shtick similar to Penn and teller, making big point to the audience about how it's just tricks, and when pen explained how they weren't fooled, you could absolutely tell that he wasn't amused, either by him infringing on their overall vibe, or on his quality of execution, he wasn't overtly mean, but comparatively, you could tell that penn really didn't like the guy. Can't remember who it was though.
@ruggedlemmings9163
@ruggedlemmings9163 2 года назад
Kinda part of the unspoken code of magicians: never reveal the method of a trick unless the magician has already revealed it themselves. Wouldn't be a very good gameshow for magicians if every time someone failed to fool them P&T were like "Well you've got the mirror over there pointing at the curtain which has a special coating on it to do...." etc etc. That would straight-up ruin an aspiring magician's act.

There were actually two key words in Penn's remarks: (1) "unique angle" (2) "gut level". You can genuinely see the top and bottom of the glass table. There is no deception there. The deception is that the table still has a black solid edge and side. We cannot see the edge/side of the table facing Jeki's gut, and so most likely there is a deception in the tiny edge of the table. One can only speculate as to the actual method, but imagine that the edge of the table facing Jeki has a slight protrusion with an opening in the top, like a barely open drawer, and it is positioned near the bottom of the edge so that only Jeki can see---we can not see it from our angle. This drawer-type opening goes into a chute that angles through the table and out the bottom. This way, Jeki can drop the cards off the edge of the table and into the chute while appearing to keep his hands above table. (Watch his hands at the end when he "dusts them off". He "chops" one hand down on the table. He's making a drop off.) Some other method is used to stop the cards from falling out the bottom of the table unless he reaches under to collect them. Very creative trick and still takes incredible sleight of hand to not make the deception too obvious.

@wadebarnett2542
@wadebarnett2542 2 года назад
The card doesn't go through the table. It's hidden somewhere under the table. Perhaps it comes from his shorts. Perhaps it's rolled up into the rim of the table. If that's the case, I'm not sure if he could do the trick with a rimless table. He's very good. Look at the "four" cards at 3:04. One of them is made up to look like one card is on top of another. When another card covers the "fake card," it looks like four cards have become three. I think that's the simple version. It's probably a little bit more complicated. But it is just a trick.

@@wadebarnett2542 just because someone writes that they can't figure out how a trick is done doesn't mean they want someone to explain. I know that the camera angle helps a lot with this trick. Brilliantly performed illusion. I could work out how it was done, and could just barely see the slight of hand. I like the subtle comment Penn said which showed that they knew how it was done, and I like how Alyson says you fooled her, even though standing right next to the table she could clearly see how it works. Camera operator near the end needed to be a bit more careful, as he almost gave it away by getting the camera too high. Nice touch with the light coloured shorts, as it was wonderful misdirection, even though it was a risk at showing the card hide. Brilliant performance, and entertaining.

I know exactly how this awesome trick routine is done, but won't decribe it here. However, Penn is exactly right when he said ANGLE. The 'glass' table is at the proper 'angle' to pull this trick off. Jeki is not up against the back edge of the table as we think he is. Plus he used some great sleight of hand.

First of all, I love the routine! Fantastic talent and skill! However, recently FU editing has been really harsh. I understand it not to give away some parts that are more noticeable on screens or just some mistakes by the performer. But some of these FU videos feel more like a highlight reel than a routine. To my mind, this blurs the line between editing and camera magic, as the trick experienced in video sometimes is not what the illusion was live. Imagine having spectator think of a card, asking what the card was and then proclaiming that as mind reading. Remove the questioning part and you end up with a true miracle.

A great trick, when Penn is talking about a great angle he's hinting that Jeki is placing his cards on the edge of the table at a downward angle that can't be seen from the front or top. (It's why there's a black border on the glass table..) 🙂

Ok so your first time you used the Table cloth, second time you used your pants or possibly just the same as the 3rd time, in which you used the black fake edging on your table as the table edge extends a little beyond the edging, the black edging allows cards to be hidding and the glass is cut to to allow the cards to pass through. Very cool trick. 1 step a head as the first time you have to use the cloth because it was covering the edging 😉
@stargazer7644
@stargazer7644 2 года назад
All of the tricks used an angled tray behind the edge of the table to hold the cards and sleight of hand to move the cards to/from there. The edging on the glass hides it from our “angle” and the cloth left on the front of the table hides it from the audience.
