We do have them growing around here in south Hillsborough and Pinellas counties as trees and they do pretty well. They probably dont fulfill their size potential but they handle our odd cold weather days ok. I’m putting one in my front yard in tree form soon and we’ll see how it does!

Thanks for sharing. I will see my house beginning of April. However, I will only be there for 10 days and therefore will not be able to garden much since I will try to explore my property first. I will keep buttonwood in mind.

Hi, thank you for having a great channel. What is the difference between the green buttonwood and the Florida boxwood? They look pretty close to me. Thank you

Hi, both are native, but the Florida boxwood has smaller leaves and tends to smaller in size than the green buttonwood. Florida boxwood makes a good hedge. Green buttonwoods get much bigger and will get to a larger tree size than the Boxwood. 😀 🪴

Great information! Thank you. Our silver buttonwood hedge is looking very sparse. What is the life cycle to maintain a dense hedge? Is the green better suited for that application? We are in zone 11 (west Delray Beach)

Hi there. Is your silver located in a shady area? if so , that might be why. Also trimming to allow sun to hit all sides of buttonwood will help. As the using green, it may do a litle better in shady spots. Hope this helps ! 😀🪴

@@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN Thank you for the advice. Yes, we have both full sun and partial shade along the front of the property. We also get standing water when it rains a lot.

Maybe add some fertilizer to leaf up plant, and try to do some regrading to move standing water away from shrub. 😀🪴

Well, wish me some luck🧲because I purchased a silver buttonwood and was told it would do great in Tampa, zone 10a. I love the silver leaves and the fact it will have small frosty pinkish colored berries for the birds. Also the little blooms will be great for the pollinators. 💚🩷🩶
