MONGOLIAN BEEF RECIPE (adapted from Jenny Park @ www.spoonforkb...!
2 New York Strip Steaks, thinly sliced (about 1 1/2 pounds)
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided (we used an additional tbsp for the griddle cook)
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon minced ginger
⅓ cup soy sauce
⅓ cup water
½ cup brown sugar
2 green onions sliced into 1 inch pieces
1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds *optional (we left them off)
salt and pepper to taste
Serve with steamed rice (We prefer jasmine)
Prepare the sirloin by cutting it into approx. 1/8 thick strips. Mix well with corn starch, ensuring even coating on all of the steak.
Over med/high heat on the griddle, place 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a small sauce pan. Once hot, add garlic and ginger, and sautee for 1 minute (less time if it begins to brown). Add the soy sauce, water, and brown sugar. Stir until it comes to a rolling boil and the sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally. While the sauce is cooking, turn another section of the griddle to medium heat. Lay 1-2 tbsp of vegetable oil on the griddle, and place the steak in the oil, and sear the first side for approx. 30 seconds. Flip and cook for an additional minute. Add the sauce to the steak, and cook until the sauce thickens on the steak. Pull and serve over rice, or with your favorite side dish. Enjoy!
