You know, just because people say they train kung fu it does not mean that they do kung fu. Often it are kind of weirdos who doing fancy movements in the air during training and then do kickboxing in fights...

That Division guy is a smart fighter. He's got a big bag of tricks and probes for gaps in the opponent. His distance control is really good. The draw was a tough bout. The last one? Judging from the other bouts, it seems like he was just messing around a bit. If I recall, Jeff Chan? was demonstrating that half-step punch at 2:17 That was excellent. A bit more cardio, an entrance theme song and he can go pro.

I love to see it. I actually think there *would* be a few kung fu styles that *could* be good for the ground but most kung fu practitioners don't/can't fight, so almost no one is ever gonna know any potential application. Always enjoy seeing a practitioner being athletic and actually learning to fight. I've seen him on Streetbeefs once before, but I'll have to follow him more closely now.

Commonmisconception is that there is no ground fighting or grappling in CMA. From styles to that specialize in the "Ground and Pound" to ones that look a lot like BJJ, CMA's can grapple. Best know and most widely practices grappling method is fast wrestling or Shuai Jiao, and then complete base for the Sanda throwing system is also rooted in traditional CMA. Incomplete knowledge, or lost application is ahuge plague on traditional arts, CMA especially.

Driftwood doesn't train or only just strated. Who tries a backhander like he tried after completely over balancing from the kick? No disrespect to Division, he definitely has skills. Also looks like one of those guys blessed with natural strength for whatever size he's at, the wrestling vs Viking showed that, along with the punches that wrecked RONC. Great highlighting of Division. Where was the kung fu? :)

It stopped today with that weird beeping, so we'll see what's going on. I changed the battery two weeks ago and my roommate Rob who you've seen on this channel also got rid of any existing charge in the alarm, so it's very unlikely to be a battery issue. But definitely appreciate your tip!

Different lineages, provinces and groups in China
@Chronicskillness
@Chronicskillness Год назад
There was a 258 year civil war (1644-1912 Qing Dynasty) whilst dealing with British and Japanese occupiers. During that time, martial arts training was technically outlawed for the general population as a means to control & keep power. (Minority ethnic group, the Manchu, seized power in 1644). And as Arif mentioned, China is huge. It's split into 23 provinces. 12 of which are heavily populated and where the majority of martial arts developed. So basically, during that 258 year Qing Dynasty, most Kung Fu was trained in secret. So many clan, family and village systems evolved. Mind you we can generally lump them into 2 groups: Northern systems (North of the Yangtze river) and Southern systems (South of). Where most fundamentals and many techniques overlap in their respective group.

Thanks y'all

Because that’s how martial arts really works. It’s easy to understand if you track the history of Jeet Kune Do because it’s a great example of how all martial arts develop and branch. Bruce started in wing chun under Ip Man then he taught it as Bruce Lee’s Kung Fu or Jun Fan Kung Fu because he didn’t want to claim representation of the lineage for different reasons. Then his students had to call it different things if they tweaked it. Like Jesse Glovers was called non-classical Kung fu because he modified it. One or two students were sanctioned by Bruce to teach Jun Fan Gung Fu and they kept that name. Bruce went on to develop and invent Jeet Kune Do and it has two iterations… Jeet Kune Do Concepts and Original Jeet Kune Do. Bruce Lee is a great illustration because you can see the same process of branching we see here in the U.S. with Bruce’s arts as what was going on in China with all the lineages of Kung Fu. Political rivalries and divisions played a huge role in creating the many branches of Kung fu. Think of them as tribes. You see a contemporary example in recent lineages of Brazilian jiujitsu that is so often now right there on the patches. Often the names indicate continuity in the lineage but that’s sort of a foreshadowing of what happens when there’s a full on schism.
