We have some amazing matchups featuring various practitioners of different styles of kungfu. The first match is a Tai Chi guy challenging a Shuai Jiao coach. The second match is a Hung Gar (Hong Jia) guy challenging a boxer. The third match is a clearer angle of the epic Kungfu Master going into MMA gym to teach sparring. The fourth match is a self-taught kungfu artist taking on a MMA hobbyist. And we have a bonus one for you to watch and find out at the end. Let us know which clip you liked the best (hint: I think the self-taught one is the best), and let us know what martial arts lessons you learned from all these matches!
First match is courtesy of 南宁市胜斗士格斗体育文化传播 on Douyin. Definitely search them up.
Second match is not the original upload, but if you want to find it on bilibili, go search this: 6952345102270401803
Third match is also not the original, but it's from a channel that we've featured before. They are all over social media, including on RU-vid: 传武风云
Fourth match is courtesy of Fist of Faith (much more footage here): • RU-vidr自學中國武術參戰!?網紅跨界...
The Kungfu guy in the match is here: / @飛魚不會飛
Bonus clip is courtesy of 昱翔搏击馆 on Douyin.

Commendable effort. I agree with the commentar above get an experience trainer at least. Learning the moves is a good start but you need someone to train you how ot put it all together and to think like a fighter othewise your going in a fight without gameplan and just improvising which is amatuerish. That is the problem with all traditional fighters who go in thinking knowing how to kick and punch is enough without really knowing how it all functions against someone often fail.

you should find a local gym to learn more. There's a lot of things cannot learn from videos. There's things that can only learn from experience. 紅拳和洪拳是不同的門派。

For those of you who are a fan of the self-taught mantis artist at 5:58, make sure to give the promotion Fist of Faith a shout! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uU3ywWMPmeU.html I'm so glad they like our commentary, and I saw a sizable number of you go over and check them out last time we featured them, so definitely go say hi to them again and subscribe to them if you haven't already! I’m glad Jerry said that there are good styles of kung fu and has seen it when he broke down “Bajiquan Vs “ matches and that he noticed that the concepts of tai chi can be helpful if applied properly. Way to go

There is no weight class in Shuajiao or Mongolian Wrestling, so he is probably very used to these type of competitive disadvantages. Tai Chi guy you can tell just relies on his size rather than work on any technique. I say that because Tai Chi has extremely good hand-fighting and it is very hard to see any of that from him. One of the more decorated Push Hands World Champs, Chen, has a video sparring with Marcelo Garcia, and you can see how much trouble he gives one of the GOATs. He even launches Marcelo at one point, like you see in the demos lol,

"This inexplicable need to prove [tai chi] in a combat sports arena comes back to haunt it". That is EXACTLY the most honest and concise - without being condescending - evaluation of the current culture and attitude of tai chi in China I have heard. That IS the problem right there explained. There used to be a time when it was understood or at least accepted that tai chi was a very esoteric "soft" or "internal" style of martial art and not really intended for the hard/external applications of fighting. That is to say that the end goal of taichi wasn't really for fighting but about developing internal strength or energy not unlike the force in Star Wars if you want to believe in that metaphysical stuff. A means for more internal health and general well being and we all respected that and those kids who played in their own sandbox (or in the park doing slow mo movements with elderly people). Once tai chi was pushed (according to RU-vid's Serpentza channel) by the Chinese government as part of its jingoism and nationalism campaign then it made its fatal mistake in crossing the line in an area where it stood no chance nor was intended -- challenging foreign martial arts that were better suited and evolved for hard fighting. After that tai chi was relegated by the mass audience in the West as being the butt of bullshido jokes. Jingoism did them in -- when you talk tough someone is going to eventually call you on it. As far as the self taught kung fu vs MMA guy. Quite frankly, the MMA guy looked more "self taught" than the kung fu guy. The MMA guy was extremely sloppy in his techniques. Absolutely agree...the headlock is a giveaway that he doesn't know what he's doing. He almost had his back taken. There are times where a headlock might be okay but an experienced MMA or grappler will rarely ever go for a headlock because it can be easily stuffed or countered. Underhooks or over/under clinching are what experts use. The self taught kung fu guy showed more application of technique. However, my advice to kung fu guy is to go train with a qualified instructor because you don't want to develop bad habits. Do it correctly from the start. Every martial art coach will tell you: having good foundations and basics are the most important things and you can only get that by having a qualified instructor show you and give you feedback.

I like the one of boxer vs kung fu, there proves that kung fu do has hands. Not all styles of kung fu has hands that is so effective against a boxer, but one was pretty good 👍

Hoong Gar guy wasn't all that bad. Still not a fan of spinning back fists though. The last match: loved those superman punches. A bit of a mixed bag of styles. Southern Mantis? Maybe.

Great work as always Jerry. I hope more of these leagues & fighters recognise the visibility you can bring to them, and with any luck they'll see the mutual benefit of giving you a reverse reacharound (I may have phrased that incorrectly, I don't do social media).

Jerry, there are several styles called Hong Quan. 洪家拳 aka 洪拳 Hong family fist from south,洪拳 flood fist from north,红拳 red fist from north. They are different styles but their name is spelled the same. It is confusing even for Chinese speakers.

BJJ uses the ground to stifle your opponents ability to explode, Tai chi uses connectiveness to stifle it. Connectiveness but not grabby-ness, in my opinion, tai chi breaks down the moment you grab your opponent, at that point you're just wrestling. Camouflage guy had a better understanding of tai chi than I usually see in these videos except he's pushing and resisting more than riding and blending. Effective tai chi movements should result in a break, a choke, a power slam, a seize, or a conclusive strike, is when this style works best IMO. Tai Chi all day on squirmy opponents to no real definitive conclusion is when tai chi starts to break down, it works best within a 4 -5 second window, or less if you're super adept, which makes sense as from what I understand it was developed for wartime applications and not civil competitive scenarios when it's the real deal. Oh, and he actually did pull off that root
@LunaticReason
@LunaticReason 10 месяцев назад
IMHO. Its not about the style or technique that wins a fight but rather the training, good principals, experience and strategy that makes a good fighter. Without theser in your martial art than your art is dead.

shuai jiao is the granddaddy of kung fu styles basically - hence why a lot of the techniques even in Bajiquan can be traced back to Shuai Jiao roots.

Clearly the MMA guy wins. He won the fight several times, but they stood them up. Yeah the little kung-fu guy had better cardio, but he was dominated too many times and taken down, ect. If it was real MMA rules, he would have lost, but since it's china, they kept on fighting until the traditional martial artist won, or in this case was proclaimed the victor by the biased referee.
@Mikester88
@Mikester88 10 месяцев назад
I can't understand how the rashguard guy won when the MMA guy at one point had his knee on his face punching him or full mount with strikes and hes not protecting his face at all. I Guess knockouts weren't allowed or the MMA guy did now know anything either (very likely due to stance and the way he looks away to protect his face). Extreme amateur hour.
