Yous missed the guy saying to the dad that police would wonder why he put his 5 kids in the car and ran. Might not be exact words but yous would have realised that Theo was part of the family lol
@@MegaBollard Theo is in the very first flashback scene when Steve is going to Neil’s room, she asks “should I get Dad” and Steve says her name and to go back to bed… it’s literally in this reaction lol… but it’s such a short moment it went right by them lol
the actress who plays older shirley also plays esme in twilight. they made hints about it when shirley named the kitten jasper and when they mentioned bringing nellie to carlisle.
something really neat about this series is that all 5 siblings get an episode. Episode 1 was Steve's, Episode 2 is Shirley, Episode 3 is Theo, Episode 4 is Luke and then Episode 5 is Nellie. giving each sibling a back story for the first 5 episodes working from oldest to youngest. Perfectly setting up them all up for the rest of the series and giving us everyones backstories
In my opinion this is a show made with absolute class from the directing, cinematography, acting and sound design everything is top-notch👌.. great reactions fellas🍻
This is HANDS DOWN my favorite thriller/horror story of all time! I’ve never gotten so emotional in a multitude of different ways throughout a series and I seriously cannot wait to see how y’all feel about it by the end. So beautiful, tragic, scary, horrifying, and heartbreaking. So many emotions all in one story.
*Shirley and Theo having a conversation about Nell and the Dad which seems very personal and very much a FAMILY issue* Them: Ohhhh Theo's their friend 😍
This is legitimately one of my favorite shows ever; the amount of times I’ve rewatched it and still cried EVERY TIME is insane. I really hope you guys enjoy watching it!!!
There’s just something about Oak’s reactions that have me hooked!!! he gets so engrossed and really tries to focus. I love Quinn’s reactions as well and I’m so happy to see Dave in more reactions ☺️ I’ve been binging y’all’s reactions since I’ve found y’all. Keep up the great work guys!
Theo is one of the siblings, they show her in the beggining of the first episode, when Nellie is crying, she gets up but Steven tells her to go back to bed cause he got it. Also, Shirley is played by Elizabeth Reeser, Esme from Twilight, so on episode 2, which is her episode, they have a couple Twilight easter eggs. With the kitten being named Jasper, and the other mortician they know and trust being named Carlisle. I love this show so much, it's one of my top 3 in general. Can't wait for your reactions!
I’m sure someone else commented this already but the siblings are meant to represent the 5 stages of grief! Steve is denial, Shirley is anger, Theo is bargaining, Luke is depression, & sweet Nell is acceptance. ❤️
One of the best shows in recent years, truly! A deeply moving family drama with a little horror sprinkled in here and there ❤ Did you guys catch that Shirley (the funeral director) is Esmee from Twilight? She’s so great in this!
I love non linear storytelling and this show does it better than most I've ever seen, you're very right it's the people first and the spook second, it's a fantastic show and I'm so excited to see the rest of your reactions to them
@@TheBatmanWhoReacts Yes, she was great but still the show isn’t as good written and filmed as the other two hence why I gave it the lowest rating out of the three but is still a good show and I just remembered that The Midnight Club is another one of Mike Flanagan so Bly Manor ain’t the “worse” one, it’s Midnight Club and by far. I was so disappointed with that show, it’s average 5/10.
@@reynaldolorenzo8409 Nope. Bly is an easy 8 and Midnight Mass is the 7 here. The pace in Bly Manor and scare factor is toned down a bit but the story is beautiful.
@@Okgrandpa Nah, Bly Manor best aspects it’s the relationships but the writing is not as good and real as in Midnight Mass and the cinematography of Midnight Mass is way better than Bly Manor, the acting in both shows are tied. There’s a reason Midnight Mass has slightly better reviews and it’s ranked by almost everyone as Flanagan best second show. On top of that Midnight Mass is an original screenplay written by Flanagan and not just an adaptation from the books like Hill House and Bly Manor so that takes even more credits. I predicted almost the whole plot of Bly Manor by episode 5 if anything I will give you that the pacing of Bly Manor is better than MM and I wouldn’t mind lowering MM to 7.5/10 but it’s definitely slightly better than Bly Manor.
YESSSS! One of my favorite shows ever! Fell in love with you guys through Harry Potter and been a fan ever since! Can't wait to go on this journey with you again!
I’m not sure if anyone mentioned it, but the kids mention in this episode that “the porch light means come home”, when Nell entered Hill House for the last time last episode, the porch light was on. Nell was going home. Great reaction! glad you guys are enjoying! Edit: wrote this comment before the final part😂
Something to think about in this show - five Crane kids (Steve, Shirley, Theo, Luke, and Nellie) and five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance). Coincidence?? :) BTW, my all-time favorite show! Thanks for reacting to it.
Ohhhh, so happy! This is one of my favorite shows in this genre. Which is difficult to classify, but deffinitely thrilling, horror-ish, mysterious and sooo gooood!
This is one of my favorite shows. There is so much this show leaves you thinking about and the emotion it pulled out of me was something I didn't expect but was very grateful for.
I feel so bad for Luke and knowing the rest of the story my heart just hurts for him and Nell. Also I never could have forgiven Sherl for kicking out Luke out of Nell's wedding
Once you get to episode 5, you’re going to be going nuts wanting to binge every last episode. You’ll come to realize that this isn’t a show about cheap scares and scary things. It’s about a family and love
Guys, I admit that it can feel like a complicated show and that the number of characters mixed with the constant back and forth between the present and the past can be hard to get used to at first. But, I swear everything will be explained as things progress and it will all makes sense. So please, try not to get too frustrated because you don't understand what's going on for now, or because you want answers right away. I promise, most of your questions will be answered. I'm so glad you decided to dive into this amazing show. Great reaction, as always! 😍
You come into this show expecting a ghost story, and you get one... a really good one even. But what you don't realize at first is that it's really an excellent family drama. The ghost story is just the framework it's built around and ties it all together.
I’m so glad you’re watching this!!!! I’m sure you’ve heard this already, but keep an eye out for those wide shots. You may spot a few spooky things in the background 😏
YALL I AM SO EXCITED TO WATCH YOU WATCH THIS SERIES! It's one of the best things I've ever seen on TV/streaming. I watch it every October and always catch something new, and am always SO moved. Mike Flanagan is amazing with the horror metaphor, character development, and story structure in this series -- you guys will love this. I'm especially excited to see how Oak responds. Can't wait for more!
This is a masterpiece series i'm telling you, i know it is confusing but, everything will connect soon... also, it might be a slow build up horror, but with the scene going back and forth from past to present will be significant in the story... each character has their own story to tell... when i watched the series, i just took notes on some scenes that have clues on their backstories... so i think for you guys, it's better to have notes too since every end of the episode you have to discuss stuffs...
so happy y’all are doin this series, definitely a favourite. if you guys like this, Mike Flanagan made a series called Midnight Mass that borders a masterpiece!
I love reactions to any of Flanagan’s shows. I absolutely love his series. In the simplest words, a lot of his stories speak about grief, and yet they are all so unique to each other. It’s always so great to see anyone experience them for the first time, especially Hill House.
This is one of the best Netflix series ever made. The writing, directing, acting, cinematography, soundtrack, transition is perfect. And the dialogue of this series is just, one of the most deepest and beautiful dialogue i ever experienced in televisyen! Really excited for what you guys think about this one!
i dropped EVERYTHING when i saw this notification, this is my all time favorite show !!! and i’m so excited to watch it for the 10th+ time with you guys
Yessssss! I have been WAITING FOR THIS❤❤❤ This director is a genius. Btw the younger form of the dad is Elliot from ET. He also keeps his cast pretty tight, he works continuously with Kate (his wife), Cara, and since this show the rest of the cast. He has released two other shows that are just as amazing.
This is one of my favourite shows! It aired at a time when I was sooo bored and disappointed in the horror genre being repetitive and predictable and this is so well written, directed and acted! It was a breath of fresh air!
I've been waiting for this one! 😊 This is such a great series. And with such a great cast. We've got Henry Thomas from the movie "E.T", Elizabeth Reaser from the "Twilight" movies, and McKenna Grace from "Ghostbusters: Afterlife". Next to "Cobra Kai", this series is my top favorite Netflix series. And the follow-up "The Haunting of Bly Manor" is also fantastic.
And Midnight Mass! The Haunting of Hill House is my favorite then Bly Manor. The Haunting with Liam Neeson is really good, the original black and white version also really good. "In the night, in the dark"
I totally understand the confusion between all the siblings! The second episode definitely helps to establish all the characters. Such a great series and I’m excited to watch the rest of these videos :)
Hello! Thanks for the feedback. Currently, for Google chrome and iPad, the sync is normal. What device are you currently viewing on? Maybe retry and see if it repeats. Let us know if you do.
@@BaddMedicine Thanks so much for the response! Weirdly, now when I load the video it seems totally fine (I'm viewing in Chrome on a laptop), so I have no clue why it was de-synced earlier. Maybe RU-vid had some sort of temporary error while it was still processing or something. Thanks again, though! :)
This show, as everyone keeps saying, is an absolute masterpiece in every way & I’m beyond excited to see y’all’s reactions! Best bit of television I’ve seen in years! This, & Bly Manor (which I hope you do after!), are both perfection & such comfort shows for me now ❤ Also, Midnight Mass is great which you should also watch, but it scares me more then the other two so I can’t watch it repeatedly lol
The jump-scare short from episodes 7 and 8 was in my recommended. 😂😂 Now I'm watching your reactions to all the episodes. The algorithm is serving you well.
this is 100% a favorite series for me, for all the right reasons. i love that i found this channel and have just been able to binge watch so many of yalls reactions. i went to sleep after finishing Ring of Power and woke up, got the games booted up, put on this play list and am starting it up again! absolutely love the reactions and takes. thanks guys for the content!~
This is my fav series of this kind ever! It's a masterpiece, the allegories in the story are amazing, deep talks with meanings, I literally can't wait for you to reach the end now that you started 😂 I'll wait for that end to say more
Is it just my problem or the audio isn't in sync after the first 15 minutes? Edit: I think it's a RU-vid problem because downloading the video the audio is perfect.
Hello! Thanks for the feedback. Currently, for Google chrome and iPad, the sync is normal. What device are you currently viewing on? Maybe retry and see if it repeats. Let us know if you do.
@@PeterDB90 Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of people having the same problem but I think it's a youtube problem because I've downloaded the video and the audio is perfectly in sync. The people who watched it as soon as it was uploaded didn't mention anything about this, only people in the last hour are having the issue... :\
Whoa! I wasn't expecting you to react to this masterpiece, but I'm so excited that you are! This is my favorite show of all time! Going forward, I think it's important to keep in mind that this is the kind of show where, if you miss 2 seconds of it, you've already missed a lot. Also, most things shown are connected and small details matter so much. That being said, if you find yourselves confused, chances are you guys missed something. I wish someone had told me this the first time I watched it; that's why I'm letting you guys know. I can't wait for the next episode and I hope you guys enjoy the show as much as I did!
Hello! Thanks for the feedback. Currently, for Google chrome and iPad, the sync is normal. What device are you currently viewing on? Maybe retry and see if it repeats. Let us know if you do.
Yess!!! So great you decided to watch this series, I loved it! Without being exactly a horror show with so many jump scares, it was quite interesting to dig little by little into the psychology of a broken family, and discover secrets, I'm so happy to rewatch this show with you guys! (Extra comment: I don't know if someone has recommended you to see the anime: Attack on Titan, If you ever want to go into this genre, I highly recommend watching this anime, I think anyone who has never watched anime but likes big and complex stories, I recommend starting with this one, I hope one day to see you react to this one)
oh HELL yeah! I will always watch reactions to this show. I've probably seen it all the way through about 5 times and many many reactions but I'm super excited to watch you guys react. already, I can see this being one of my favorite Hill House reactions. and don't worry; this show doesn't leave anything on the table. all will be revealed eventually so just enjoy the ride! ❤
Just started watching this series so I could watch along with you guys. I always meant to watch it and never did. So far so good! Just the right amount of creepy and psychological drama.
I love this show so much. Still my favourite Mike Flanagan show. The writing, the acting, the cinematography. Nells story is heartbreaking and some of the best storytelling I've seen. I haven't seen if anyone else mentioned it but Henry Thomas was Elliott from E.T. which I adore. ❤
I love this series. There are only a few series, that managed to glue me in a comparable way to the screen, like this one did. The "sequel" _(not really)_ *"The Haunting of Bly Manor",* while completely different, is also worth a watch.
This was such a great show and the pacing feels intricate. Like even though it's slow and steady in pace, every scene has value. The child actors are all really strong too. It makes me sad seeing the kids and knowing how they'll grow up after that trauma. The show really makes you care about what's happening to them. Most haunted house stories focus on the haunting in the moment only. I like that this one is answering the question of "What happens after you've survived the haunting?" but from a family dynamic position. To me, the show gets even stronger as the epiosdes go on because the beginning laid solid groundwork for some impact.
Oh my God, yes finally, this is one of the most beautiful series that talks about family traumas and psychological problems and the effect of childhood traumas on a person's life. It is a really perfect series in terms of writing, directing, and cinema photography and You guys are the perfect people to react to it, as I really love your view of things, your ideas, and your discussion, and I can't wait for the next episodes.
I don't comment on videos often but I'm SO excited you're watching this. If there is a reaction to this on RU-vid, I've watched it lol Yeah, you're going to be confused about a lot of things... until the moment you're not and it's so worth it! Love the reaction and can't wait for more!
One of the best shows ever made. The underlying themes and there’s almost no jumpscare except a very very good one 😂😂 otherwise it’s so emotional and amazingly written and directed
(Jase here) Love to see that you guys are starting this series. We just finished our reaction to it and absolutely loved it. Can't wait to see more, and hear everything you all think about it!!
Man, this was so much fun! Watching you piece things together, watching you forget about Theo - I binged so I don't judge (I didn't keep up with the number of kids! I just let them explain it to me) - your commentary, jokes, and general attitude: TOPPPPPP! I believe this is my first video of yours, and I'm hooked. Can't wait for more Hill House reactions!
About funerals and kids: I've heard seeing the person dead helps the child understand that that person didn't go away and abandon them. The body is here but the person is gone, so you can't see them anymore, but you can remember them and feel them when you need to.
I love thisssss one of my faves. Can't wait to see you react to all the eps. Am I the only one that has half the video off of sync between voices and the edit? :/
Hello! Thanks for the feedback. Currently, for Google chrome and iPad, the sync is normal. What device are you currently viewing on? Maybe retry and see if it repeats. Let us know if you do.
Hello Jess! Thanks for the feedback. Currently, on my end at least, I see it working well for Google chrome and iPad. What device are you viewing on by chance?
@@BaddMedicine hi! thanks for the response! it was on google chrome desktop, but I tried again a little later and the audio was synced 👍thanks for responding! Love watching you guys!
I'm so happy you're doing Hill House! It's one of those rare shows that get better and better with each episode. Episode 5 and 6 especially are some of the best pieces of television I have ever seen. You're in for a treat!
I get goosebumps when nell calls her dad and she's staring at hill house with lights on her face DAMN and I cry so much with this series, poor nell, poor luke 😭😭
Oh they did such a good job with this. For a horror anything to be properly scary you have to care about the characters. You have to be invested in them in some way otherwise who cares when the bad stuff happens. And this show makes you care about them all very well. They are flawed. They have issues. Relatable issues. They're just trying to get through. So when things happen, it's scarier because you have a connection to them. This isn't a spoiler, but in shots of The House when they are kids and all, look in the backgrounds of shots. Down halls, in other rooms, behind stairs, etc... there are nearly ALWAYS ghosts lurking. Peering around corners. Standing in plain freaking view. When you notice them it gets way creepier. Because they are always present. Nearly every scene has one. This show, for being primarily psychological and exploration of family trauma etc, does contain on of the all time greatest jump scares ever. And they managed to make it a legitimate part of the story, so it isn't just a scare for the sake of scaring. It legitimately comes out of left field. I'm not going to say anything about when or where.
Awesome show. Probably one of my favorites from the last ten years. I think of the show as more of a family drama than a straight up horror thing...but the suspense and jump scares are definitely there as well...and it's all the better for it. But by the end it doesn't really feel like the point. Uses the concept of haunting to show how each child and adult is chased by their own mental and emotional stuff from the past and how it manifests the present. Series ending is top notch. So glad you guys chose this one. 💖
I've seen a few people say that this show focuses more on the characters and story than it does the horror aspects, and that's totally true. That's kinda just how Mike Flanagan works. But it is also worth noting that if you remove the family backstory in Hill House, along with pretty much all the horror stuff because Hill House is the cause of it, the family drama wouldn't work as well as it does. The entire story, the characters, and their relationships to one another hinge on their experiences at Hill House. But it is 100% true that Mike really focuses on the characters in his projects, sometimes to the detriment of the horror and scares. Which is honestly fine with me, because most other horror relies so much on the horror and the scares that the characters and story feel like late additions. Either the story suffers, or the horror suffers. And also, Mike Flanagan hates jump scares. I'm assuming it's because, like me, he thinks they're a cheap way to get a reaction out of the audience and aren't actually scary. I mean just watch any other horror movie or show, the amount of jumpscares outnumber the amount of things you are scared of. And ALL jumpscares rely solely on the music hit to make tbe audience jump. If not for the music hit, the audience would only jump if it was truly startlinf/scary. And it's clear that Mike prefers a slow build to the scary moments, really heightening that tension and suspension. Now I'm just waiting for someone to perfectly blend the horror and characters of a story, while at the same time not relying on jumpscares.
Oh you are in for a real treat with this series. AMAZING When my grandmother died I did her hair, my mom did her makeup and my sister did her fingernails. It was our closure and we knew how particular our grandmother was with her looks so we didnt want the funeral director to "mess" that up for our grandfather. Its not an easy thing to do if you are not "comfortable" with death or dead bodies...for sure.
There is a movie called “The Haunting” (1999) that is basically the same, but not. Steven Spielberg was Executive Producer and it was directed by Jan de Bont (Twister.) Theo is played by Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago.) Lili Taylor (The Conjuring) is Nell and Owen Wilson (who cares,) is Luke. The storyline is different but has some of the HOHH story. None of them are related and have never met each other until they meet at the house. Yes, even Mr. & Mrs. Dudley is in it. There is a character named Hugh Crane, but he’s definitely like Henry Thomas’ story arch. Spielberg had some new techniques for CGI that had not been done at that time. It is so BEAUTIFUL to watch. The whole mansion was built especially for this movie. It’s really hard to believe that the mansion is a set! You’ll love the wood work in this film! Liam Neeson stars in it as well. Just don’t listen to the soundtrack. It is by the same composer who did “Poltergeist” and I could sing along with it. He stole from himself. Cheap! I hope y’all will see it someday. You don’t have to do a reaction on your channel, but you’ll miss out on amazing creepy effects!
I'm so happy to see you guys reacting to this series. One of my all time favourites. Many familiar faces in the cast. Can't wait to see more! Some of the best storytelling in a mini-series I have ever seen!
