Thanks for this video, a lot of good info and exercises as well. I'm looking forward to trying some of these. I will be ordering the resistance band belt the first of the month ( it's funny how one has to regulate these things according to our funds). This next question is probably going to sound goofy but do you have any videos on how to walk backwards? I.e. getting the affected leg behind you

I practice this by walking along with one hand on my rather long kitchen counter. Forward, then backward. And over again. Also, to keep a beat, I use music (funky stuff by Parliament!)

Thanks for these exercises. I definitely think it’s time for me to work on improving this part of my retraining! This may or may not fit here, but I recently started working on some ball skills with a soccer ball (I’ve coached my kids’ soccer teams until recently), including toe taps where the ball is an unstable/moveable surface, as we as couple others to start.
@rehabhqofficial
@rehabhqofficial Год назад
Hi Randy! I love this! Yes, toe taps on anything unstable is excellent 😊

I've noticed that it is possible to get into a balanced position sub-optimally (for example shifting your hips toward the stance leg, compared to/without lifting/externally rotating the opposite hip), and that when this happens there is way more 'struggle' than there needs to be. I learned this the hard way, because for a long time I'd been mistaking the instability from said hip shift and over-pronating/early-pronating with 'training load that will eventually lead to better stability' ... but I never saw improvement in balance or foot pain. Then I (thankfully) figured out that if load your foot from the outside (blade position) with short foot (all toes lifted), and find the ball of your big toe (by transferring the ground force from outside to inside, only as much as needed) ... and then initiate balancing with 'check for gum' opposite foot/hip lift / rotation ... if you do that you are solid and you only 'struggle' to the extent that you lose the feeling of the starting position / tripod. 10 seconds is kind of a humorous threshold, because if you are actually balanced correctly, 10 seconds ... 20.. 30 ... it's all the same. And you don't have to be super strong to do this, because it is more about alignment and weight distribution... like if you've ever tried to balance a stick vertically, it isn't difficult or forceful. However, you could be balancing incorrectly and by will / muscle force, hang in there for 10 or more seconds ... but I would say you are NOT prepared to run in the later case (as I also learned, just now coming back from 2+ years of injury, stemming from trying to run with an uncorrected Trandelenberg gait !!).

If I am an over supinator, will sleeping on my strong side & allowing the weaker knee to crossover (in front) for as long as possible help my weak hip and leg.
@rehabhqofficial
@rehabhqofficial Год назад
This is an excellent question! It depends on many factors. One of which is what is causing the supination. If it is caused by an externally rotated hip, my answer is possibly. That said, the hip is not the only culprit for a post stroke supinated foot :)
@ryukoli4707
@ryukoli4707 Год назад
@@rehabhqofficial spasticity, too! I take 30mg of Baclofen 3 times a day; 1mg Clonazepam 3 times a day for that portion. I used to get Botox shot routinely, after three successful years, I developed an allergic reaction to it 😢. I do know that a hip rotation is part of the problem (my brain doesn't pickup the whole outside of the hip on down. Basically, the inside is doing ALL THE WORK!) FORTUNATELY, I NEVER LOST FEELING, AT ALL! I did have surgery, a ligament transfer, twice! Also cycle on a stationery bike and walk in an indoor arena.

Thank you Tara. Wonderful exercises. Curious if either of the following might be effective: farmers carry, weight one hand, while walking, or using the Nilex strap around knees, stand 1 foot and using the elevated foot/leg to provide counter resistance (I have a video that demo’s this and have found it helpful but I’m wondering if it is simply a compensatory “crutch”?) thank you !😊
