Improve your FX6 or FX9 white balance accuracy with a simple mask. 

Such a shame Sony can't put a software mask in the firmware like the A7Siii... even better because it's movable. We shouldn't have to be cutting bits of card to cover up Sony's lack of software development on these cameras...

This is such a practical, Blue Peter-ish solution. So many times, I've got everything set for an interview - except the white balance.Thank you! I never use the black card in my set of cards so I'll do this before the next shoot!

Thank you again Alister. This is a real issue with wide lenses or if you are well back from the talent, or if the rest of the scene is not lit the same as the talent. Please use your contacts at Sony update the firmware to allow touch white balance like the A7S. (BTW Thought I had not seen anything from you for a while, and now know that my Subscribe to your channel has somehow been turned off)

Thanks for sharing this Alister! It kinda weird that on those cameras doesn't have a movable target box for custom white balance. Even the older A7's has that circle in the center of frame...

Question, can you use the clear image zoom to zoom in by 2X on the white card. Since there is a little bit of quality loss on the 2X clear image zoom does this do anything to the white balance in terms of getting a true neutral white balance? Great Stuff Alister.

Alister- Still learning, forgive naivety. Aside from FX6/9, how can I set WB with FX3? I cannot capture (i.e. set) WB from MR1-3, which prompts: "The operation or setting not available as follows: Shoot Mode/Memory Recall." I'm forced to back out of MR, capture WB in Movie or Still Mode, then return to my MR and enter WB K value. Can you (or anyone) shed some light here? How are you capturing WB while in MR mode? -Colton

So just for cases when you do have access to the scene to place a white card but can’t move your camera to the scene at all?

The joke is that this even needs to be a thing. Simple software fix that users have been requesting for actual camera generations now. What a JOKE Sony.
