Hiiii all! Thanks for the feedback and support. Just wanted to make a quick correction to something I said around 8:22--I intended to say that the brain doesn't take up *nonessential* amino acids from the circulation. Nonessential amino acids are the amino acids that can be produced by our bodies. This is because specifically nonessential amino acids directly serve as neurotransmitters (e.g. glycine and glutamate) so their uptake would directly impact brain levels of these molecules and create a difficult to regulate environment. Essential amino acids serve as precursors to neurotransmitters (e.g. tryptophan->serotinin, phenylalanine->tyrosine->dopamine). For this reason, because multiple steps are required to convert these essential amino acids into the active neurotransmitter, these can be taken up by the brain without wreaking havoc because the brain can regulate their conversion. I apologize for misspeaking and hope this clarification makes sense!

So I was really excited when this video came out, as I'm homozygous AA for the FUT2 gene mutation and have suffered digestive issues since as early as I could remember, there's just hardly any information around on this issue, what kind of diet 20% of the population should be eating to not just maintain internal balance but actually be really healthy! last year my regular eating and lack of knowledge resulted in abnormal thyroid results, developing pain in my gallbladder area, and psoriasis all over my hands. I attribute this to inflammation and immune responses because of the FUT2 mutation... I cut (most of the) gluten from my diet and eat a lot of high fibre and fermented foods, I've lowered carbs too. I take kefir and sauerkraut everyday and also brought the HMO powder. HOWEVER, I have no way of knowing if these fermented foods I am eating have enough bifidobacterium or if they are just jam packed with Lactobacillus! Really frustrating. I don't want to be having HMO's to colonise bifidobacterium in my gut which isn't there yet! I was also a C section birth which I know has huge implications on my current adult microbiome. Any tips or advice on how to consistently repopulate bifidobacterium (and on a budget) would be greatly appreciated?!?

I was still breastfeeding my kiddo when I got really bad food poisoning. It left me with sibo I believe. I had to self diagnose because when I went to the doc (really PAs and FNPs), they were more concerned with this depression I'd been having. I tried to tell them the mind and gut are connected and having tummy troubles for weeks with a under 1 year old certainly will bum a person out as I was not feeling like this before (I'm a registered dietitian)... but they gaslit me a few times until I became more depressed and tummy troubles got worse. I actually started to believe I was just a depressed new mom like they said I was (wanted me to take SSRIs), so I researched depression and got the great advice that we should all be "treating ourselves like we would our children.". That made the mama bear come out. I started charting until I was convinced it was a GI issue like I thought originally. I initially fasted for 3 days, lemon water and oregano oil. I added back in very bland keto foods gradually for about three weeks, kept to keto, fasted for a couple of days here and there, regularly fasting for 16 hours every day and kept with the oregano oil regiment. It took a few months but I got better. I have since returned to my normal healthy eating patterns and dropped the oregano oil. I eat for the gut, heavy in fermented foods and pickled things, and lots of fiber and meats. The way I talk to clients about their health has changed. I insist on focusing on the gut. In doing so I have also came to the conclusion that women that struggle with weight really need to focus on pelvic alignment as major muscle groups are impacted.

I was reading recently about how plants use their roots to take bacteria into the plant. I also read that it’s not just the roots where they find this micro flora. And glyphosate is also essentially an antibacterial chemical and it is taken in by gmo plants. So one of the big reasons we should be eating organic plants or plants which do not have chemicals which are effectively antibacterial in them is so that we can seed the gut with those bacteria … if we eat glyphosate it destroys the gut bacteria and it destroys bacteria in the plants that seed the gut.

If we take animal kingdom. There are carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, scavengers etc All they have their own microbiomes. We don't say that lion should eat blueberries or dark fruits to make his microbiome better. And butyrates are produced by the body on keto diet. :) So the "carnivores" among us have the assumption that THIS is the evolutionary appropriate way of eating. Hence, there is no need in these fruits. In this case only specific RCTs or time can show if they are correct.

I think the key word here is Sprinkle. It probably isn’t great for most humans to have tons of veggies or carbs daily with each meal. I’ve been working for months to find my perfect balance. I enjoy all food which is how I ended up being so over weight. Even while eating keto, I would tend to overeat veggies causing weight gain. Personally, I’ve found using small amounts as flavoring helps. Like putting mushrooms and onion on my steak. I get some veggies but it enhances the steak more. I also have one meal a week, usually a restraint meal with family, where I will have rice, extra veggies and other more normal American diet stuff. I stay away from fried foods and processed items like bread or pastas though.

Regarding fermented foods in American diet. Before the 1960s, fermented foods were extremely common in American household. I’m 73 and I know this to be a fact. Don’t make the assumption that call western food is stupid and bad. My parents and grandparents, and everybody they knew, made sauerkraut and naturally fermented pickles on a very regular basis. Very few vegetables were available in the winter, and most household had a cold cellar To store what could be stored over at least part of the winter. Rats and other vermin work usually discouraged by having a big nasty cat in the house. Wood shavings work put over baskets or tubs of vegetables to keep out vermin as well.. The American diet didn’t suffer serious deterioration until the late 1950s, with the introduction of massive amounts of relatively cheap frozen foods. Most American housewife embrace these eagerly, as nobody had any idea that all of the additives would be so so harmful long term.

Why do Americans keep saying "like" all the time...where does is come from? It makes listening awkward.

🤪💭🧠❔ Why the need to speak so fast ,why not speculate and why not admit to we don't know in another hundred years or so we'll have another 20 % of pathways figured and the yhe complexity will emerged and so on ,but interesting it makes sense to try to explain it in interlinked pathways nit just skipping from one area to another, but heh we need to understand processes thoroughly matching lab data with actual human physiological and subjective markers ,sounds old fashioned but human beings are NOT lab rats biochemistry is conjectural it all works holistically syncronistically as a complete sytem , matching from one level to another much higher level ie integrative whole body pyscho social even spiritual but yes interesting a book helps to start with, NOTE very few people will even understand the basics , to say yes when it takes degree level biochem physics biology to appreciate at this level, how does the body even sense minute diffs between molecules etc on a molecular level I believe some kind of quantum field - conscious spiritual effect is guiding all of this ,mind as matter but heh its just a theory ,speculation on my part ,what helps us live optimally and not fall into a pit if despair or obsession !? Sorry Mike as you know struggling 10 + years 90% loss teeth ,cycling accidents broken right elbow 2019 2020,struggling to stay fit wondering what's going wrong . Reading endocrinology just realized HOW absolutely imp glucose spiking is to longer term produces pernicious systemic organ damage and endocrine in balance, my G.P missed all this now have some other problems parathyroid ,am listening the metabolic pathways of glucose are completely different from direct glucose metabolism exactly ,glucose spikes over the longer term in my opinion the most destructive process, what she is saying doesn't quite make sense, alot does my intuitive feeling is that it IS our fundamental maximal health is this creation of sufficient endogenous glucose .Fascinating AA transport makes sense .Great ... It makes sense to work from stomach down ,BETAIN ,bile acids right pH and motility, fermentation is the problem ?It seems qe have small pieces of the puzzle can't quite make a holistic picture from this ,what about matching this to actually symptoms and feelings of health and well ness but biochemistry is surely the secondary point ,HEALTH is surely the central point ,but great anyway makes sense 👍
