About the Speakers:
Ryan Lee started his EMS career in 1998, after completing his Bachelor of Science from the University of Calgary and has been an Advanced Care Paramedic since 2002. He has worked in both rural and urban EMS ground settings and fixed wing air ambulance. Ryan began his paramedic research career in 2017 and has taken a leadership role in the Canadian Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (CanROC). His work with CanROC has included building a provincial cardiac arrest dataset, informing evidence-based changes to EMS medical control protocols, and collaborating to create and implement high performance CPR training and post return of spontaneous circulation care for paramedics and medical first responders in Alberta. Ryan is currently the Paramedic Research Lead for AHS EMS Science and Research.
Leslie Beaulieu is a Strategist for the Medical First Response & Public Access to Defibrillation Department with AHS EMS. She is an Emergency Medical Responder, who started her career in Emergency Services as a Firefighter with a rural department in Southern Alberta. After becoming certified as an Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatcher, Leslie joined AHS EMS as an Emergency Communications Officer in 2020. She took on the role of Database Coordinator for the Public Access to Defibrillation Program in early 2022, where she identified a gap in access to defibrillator event data. Leslie developed and launched the AED Data Download Initiative in early 2023 and continues to work on facilitating access to AED event data. She has recently been tasked with the development of a Community Responder Program for the province of Alberta, which will utilize mobile technologies to send volunteer responders to cardiac arrest events as they happen.
