Total newbie to flute and whistle here but thank you soooo much for making these tutorials…I don’t think you were “waffling “ at all. Really nice pace, simple, clear instructions and much appreciated! I think your tip on tutorial 1 is one of the most important which is to have your flute(or any other instrument ) easily accessible to grab and play when the moment seems right. I’m an intermediate banjo player but at least a banjo is easy to mute and still be in tuneish’ while practicing…..flutes and whistles seem hard to mute so a bit embarrassing to practice while victims are within earshot! 😂 Not sure how something with such beautiful sound can sound so wrong in my hands🤷‍♂️….but I will tame it and become one in the near future.👍 Thanks again and going to look at tutorial 3 now….

Practice practice Kerry. Start with the simple pop and just play around with that either in a scale or add it in to your own sound/improv. 🙂

Thank you for the time you have taken to make such excellent videos. These native American looking flutes look so easy to play that I have gotten discouraged I wasn't ready to go on tour within the first day of playing it 😅 But you have helped me a lot!

Thank you for these tutorials!! I wouldn’t know where to start without them. You keep them simple which makes ‘flaying the plute’ achievable for beginners like me. (Spoonerism around 9.50, made me smile so thanks for that too😊) Thank you, looking forward to your next lesson🙏🏻

Nicely done thanks ! Your hop addition makes me think of what some are calling a chirp . What would say to that ? Thank you on to your next video. Happy flutin !

A little bit similar to one guys description (I just looked up bark/chirp) but the difference I see is that popping is performed as part of our playing, a sound/technique introduced mid flow. Where as the chirp/bark I just witnessed was describing the way many player chose to end there playing. I can cover that technique in another video perhaps, there’s a little more to it 😊

greeting! thanks for the great tips, your youtube channel is great. "pop" and "flutter" are clear to me, but I couldn't understand "hop", they are too fast finger movements. it sounds great but I don't understand what I need to do to get that effect - "hop". thanks in advance

Thank you. I’ll try to post a ‘short’ video to cover that. But essentially you are popping, but you’re landing on a different note. With a basic pop you might for example lift 1, 2 or even 3 fingers for a strong ‘pop’, and all fingers lifted for that pop, land in the same place. BUT, with a pop n hop, you would land with one less finger (or one more), than when you started, therefore changing the note when you land.

Thank you very much for your explanation and time!

So when you were popping and hopping you lifted a finger in your top hand and the bottom hand and then landed on the new note. Can you break that down? Hope this makes sense.

I did lift an upper finger up as well yes. This accentuates the pop but for a standard pop, we can just briefly lift up and replace the finger above the note that is playing. Breath comes into it too, but I’ll cover advanced popping another time. I hope that answers the question Kerry?
