Yaakov. I'm retired now, but I am one of the most experienced guItar teachers in the UK. 43 years as a senior teacher across three local authorities. I love the simplicity of your teaching. So many online guitar teachers talk so much they often obscure the point that they are trying to get across! I have shared your link with some of my former colleagues, a couple of whom are very well known indeed. Keep up the good work.
This is probably the single most important guitar video I’ve ever watched. I’m in my 50’s and you have explained some really useful ideas so thank you so very much 🙏👏
I am two lessons in and my life will never be the same! All I wanted yesterday was to know what "la pompe" meant. I am so grateful to have found these very effective lessons by this extremely talented teacher.
I am a pretty bad guitarist. Like, three chord bar chord level. I was able to jam pretty enjoyably within a couple of hours with JUST THIS VIDEO'S techniques - literally the first and only video I watched on the subject. Sir, this is magic!
Brilliant lesson, possibly the best Gypsy Jazz lesson ever! You show technique and melodic concepts over a standard song form so that it can be instantly be used by the student. It is easy to hear the early jazz masters like Django, and Charlie Christian using chord shapes, it sounds a lot more musical and logical than playing scales. Please keep the song based coming .
Thanks a lot, Reverend Rick! Notice that I use examples from songs in my lessons, even when the song name isn't part of the title. I've even developed some complete courses based on specific songs. Take a look at GypsyandJazz.com for more free lessons and a l istof courses. Have fun with your guitar!
I'm 13 years old and my teacher has helped me fall in love with jazz over the past six months I'd say. I'm playing for a jazz school in another six months and he told me to do as much research as I could on learning more about the styles and as I have to improvise over minor swing for the rehearsal I'm trying to get new ideas this helped me so much thank you
Wow! I've been playing guitar for a long time, but never tried to learn gypsy jazz style. It just sounds "too hard." With this, my first time watching, you have given me the knowledge to believe I can at least approach gypsy jazz, and now i want to dive right into it! I hope you have many more excellent lessons like this one, because I am so excited to learn more.😃

This video was made 2 years ago and I'm only seeing it now? I wasted the last 2 years of my life...lol. What a great and simple, yet rich lesson. Can't wait to dig in deeper. *subscribed*
I’ve seen the concept of enclosures a lot before, but this was the first explanation of it that really clicked for me and made sense in a practical sense, particularly on guitar. Many thanks!
Thank you, thank you thank you!!!! I had just about given up on the idea that I might ever be able to improvise over chord changes. This lesson put a smile back on my face and I am doing what I thought I would never do. Excellent simple lesson.
I’ve learned l can play Gypsy jazz! Now I need to learn your awesome accent! Geez my wife is gonna melt when I show her my approach notes and enclosures...especially chord shapes! Thanks and blessings to you.
As a life long guitar player myself... you are easily one of the best teachers I ever ran across .. Thank you for the awesome lesson for an awesome style of playing. I am subscribed 🙏
My God!! I wish this video existed a few months ago, or that I found it. I just figured out this stuff from playing gypsie jazz and picking up a few things from youtube. But you confirmed a lot of my ideas and gave more to do with it. I am now learning the E7 shapes and diminished shapes. But this Major E triad is very nice in its own right!
@@GypsyAndJazz Ahh Yan such an honour to recive a message from you. I saw you gave an example of some motifs. Do they follow strict form or dose it vary. As in if I had a 5 note motif and the third note was the root of the chord. Would that mean when I change chord to repeat the motif I would have that chords third note the root of that chord (not scale root unless in the 1st mode)
Hi Yan, my god I look back and see my questions didnt make much sense hahaha. I get you now ideas around this. I guess the strategy is , learn the chords of a gypsy jazz song, the form, then the arpeggios needed. Then have fun with your motifs and artisitc style. I am trying to work in mixing major and minor blues scales in also
Yo dude, I've watched maybe 200+ guitar videos on youtube, and yours is for real the more useful and best explained one, I love you, thank you very very much !
That was a really great and clear lesson. I don’t play gypsy jazz, mostly great American songbook jazz, but I’m going to apply the principles you demonstrated. Of course, I’ll start with minor swing

Now, this really helps a lot! Being an Mandolin/Tenorguitar player i always struggle a bit with guitar tutorials but this one is great! Thank you very much!
Sir. You are truly a great musician and one of the best teachers I’ve ever seen. Your right hand technique is so beautifully followed by the exactness of your knowledgeable left hand. Also the gentle style you use to get the point across is perfect. Thank you and much success in the future. John Paiva (Snugg Fitt)
I have been following this channel for quite a long time, I have learned many important things that are really useful. It couldn't be simpler. It takes dedication and imagination to achieve something this beautiful. Explained in a few small but very important things.. It is only necessary to say- Thank you great teacher!
You have such an inspiring manner of teaching. I’ve learnt so much from this video. Its so rare to find such good teachers and has made my weekend. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it. It's one of the foundations of good improvisation. Simple is good. Been busy with my amazing retreat in Italy and online lessons and bootcamps!
Best gypsy jazz lesson I’ve ever watch. Thanks you for practically explaining it in a useable way. I’m gotta enjoy using these techniques in my playing
Dear Yaakov! God gave you a fantastic talent. Thank you so much for sharing this with us! It shows on your face how much you are with the music you play. I wish you all the best! Gergely from Hungary
Thank you so much! This is so great! I am a total beginner, it is very difficult to figure out how to play the Chord-pattern.... watching your courses really helped! Thank you ~~~
Brilliant lesson!! I am new to gypsy jazz and so many make it over complicated but this guy is spot on. Thank you so much. This has helped me no end. Great great video!
Great lesson! I just found your channel about a week ago and you are very quickly becoming one of my favourite music educators on youtube. Top notch stuff!
This is really one of the best lessons I have ever had on playing. It was incredibly eye opening and you made the concept so simple to follow. Jazz in general, gypsy or not, has a strange following of bad teachers who are less musical and more sterile in their explanations. Often times you can walk away from a jazz lesson confused. I love how you say ' forget about 6th's and 9th's, just remember the shapes'! I wonder how many amazing early jazz players learned this way. Great job, I feel like I stumbled into a secret guild of old world player's secrets.
Hey, Nate, It's really gratifying to hear that . Go for it and play what sounds good to you. Take a look at the more in-depth explanations in the free lessons at gypsyandjazz.com.
My pleasure! Thank you! Glad to hear it! Have you seen my new Jazz and Gypsy Jazz Mastery Course? You can get it now for free! Click here: www.gypsyandjazz.com/gj-guitar-mastery-sign-up?
Glad you liked it! Have you been following my Creative Improvisation Challenge on RU-vid? I hope to see you in the live workshop tomorrow. Check the description below the video and be sure to sign up if you haven't yet.
Thanks! and don't forget that you can implement what you learn here and what you learn from Django in any other genre of jazz. That's the treasure of Django!
