"when you're in severe Depression. Just getting up and Brushing your teeth is a monumental task". Couldn't agree more. Everyone has their battles. All credits to you for keeping it up. Much love to you and everyone who truly understands this feeling.
That's how you forget to differentiate art from artist. IF the script justifies the character to use a gun anyway, and this guy fails to see it, he brings his morals into the job, without realising he's just acting.
So honest and unfiltered..Imran not only shares stories through his films but also embodies authenticity. While the world is lost in fame, money and power his perspective towards life is just so refreshing and inspiring..I pray that he continues to find joy and love in his craft! Godspeed.
As a matter of fact ... that's story of every one related to Bollywood now👈..... As that era is long gone in the thin air...now there r very few massy movies that come up in a year....let's b honest those flicks r total Junkies....💩💩
So many times he sighed and took deep breath before responding. I hear you , I feel your struggles and what you must have gone through in terms of mental health … I can totally relate to it … it’s so beautiful to see people committing to improving mental health and coming out of mental health struggles in flying colours ❤️
Hands down, the best interview I've seen. The questions were so relevant, well constructed and man, his honesty and articulateness took me by surprise. An interview for the ages! Can't wait to watch him make his comeback. And Anupama Chopra's interviews are always SO INSIGHTFUL. She's a favorite 🫶
I honestly think that the more intelligent a person is the more difficult it is to live happily. The thinkers can never be ok with how the world functions. Because it is all selfish minds exploiting mediocre minds with illogical ideas. He thinks. I really hope he tells many stories in any capacity he chooses.
Man, seeing so much support for Imran is really overwhelming. I clearly remember how he was criticised heavily and bashed with negative comments by the media and people that he completely vanished from the face of the earth. I thought only God works in mysterious ways. Even media and us does that too…
Here’s an example of a quintessential kind hearted human. He’s very aware of his surroundings, he’s responsible and wants the world to be a better place. I wish you peace and fulfilment in whatever it is that you pursue. 🙏🏾
This interview was pure gold. Reminds us of the innocence of the times gone by. He was truly on point regarding the over the top titillation of violence sans any consequences or emotions. The world where it is right now needs more filmmakers who think like him to bring us stories of our common man. Also, this interview does more for the destigmatisation of mental health problems than a lot of the educational or motivational ones. Personal stories told with genuinity can serve this purpose better than anything.
Ekk Mai aur ekk tu is my most favourite romantic comedy film. Critics weren't too kind to it and not many people watched it but I absolutely loved it, how gorgeous they both looked in it and how beautiful and fresh was the story. The fact that it didn't need the two of them to end up together in the end is something we still don't see too much of. The music was so good. Imran you were such a part of my childhood and early teens.
Thank you for saying this. Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu is one of the most delightful, insightful and beautiful romcoms which is criminally underrated. Everything about it was so sweet and gentle.
What an interview! A guy who was not less than a superstar, thinks about life just as a regular human being. This interview shows that there is way more depth in his character than just being a chocolate boy image. I loved all you films, plz come back. You are a gem of a person n you deserve way more stardom that you got in the past.
What a candid and honest interview. He has a remarkable blend of clarity, strength, and vulnerability. It would be delightful to see him in roles that demand a powerful performance, allowing him to showcase his acting prowess post his new experience.
No thanks! I liked him in jaane tu jaane na, but he turned out to be an anti national! I saw hiss interview where he says that the country is still regressive and criticized the government. The country which gave him fane and money is now regressive for him!!
You know that criticising the government is fine? The government is supposed to be criticised because that's why we elected them. And if criticising the government is a problem, then keep harping on about the "misrule" in the past 70 years? The country is indeed regressive. Just travel outside India and you'll know. @@IITianProudIndian
I was always a fan of Imran Khan the actor but today I fell in love with Imran Khan the person. Talking about your own mental health takes guts. I think this would inspire more men to take therapy and seek help. I liked the way you let down your guard and were open about everything you went through. I really like the idea of having 3 dishes (I might try that as well). We're surrounded with this notion that life is a race and we must always move forward. If we don't do so, we would be left far behind. But very few people stop to think what do they want with their lives. What is the meaning of life? What is your purpose? If you weren't an actor, I'd say you could have a great future ahead as a motivational speaker. This interview definitely made me feel better. It gave me hope. It was good to see you smiling again! Keep moving forward and do things that make you happy.
Life is a miracle... And you are a choosen one Imran... Go with the flow... Surprise yourself... Never be judgemental buddy... All the very best dear... Keep moving, keep meeting people with an open heart...
Imran is a perfect example of a 90s kid (I'm the same age as him), who has been unable to come to terms with how drastically and for the worse things have changed in the world - not just the entertainment industry, but the world around him. We were born into simpler times - TV had recently been introduced (Mahabharat every Sunday morning), more personal interaction, friendly banter with everyone, no internet, or cell phones. Days could be spent daydreaming. Everything changed post 2000. He seems like an empath who feels things deeply, and is just not cut out for the cut-throat world of cinema, which looks glamorous on the outside, but is soulless on the inside.
Bang on. Maybe he will show up in smaller stories on digital platforms.. hopefully some of the suits will have some foresight and understand that there are people who will be able to engage with him and what he has to say. Though I don't really have a lot of hope from the suits either. But I believe there are good people in the "system"/"machine". I mean I have to :) nothing much else that keeps us going otherwise.
@@shivani_marmalade It's unfortunate that good people are a dying breed now-a-days. Even more unfortunate is the fact that some of Imran's best years were spent away from the arc lights, but he just doesn't seem like the kind of person who can sell his soul and be able to sleep well at night. May be he can try his hand at script writing - his intellect will come into play. That way he can still be associated with cinema, just that it'll be behind the scenes. Not every good looking person (and especially someone with real intelligence and sensible ideas) can make it big as an actor.
With all due respect I'm 91 born and I'm not near 40 for as much as I can process. But I get what you mean. The switch from TV to computer and mobiles, from gali to playstation, there was a massive shift we experienced. Imran has a rich soul. He is blessed with humility and is trying to reconnect with a changing audience and feel he will have his comfort place.
He gives same vibes as Diljeet!! Two people who have done a lot of work on themselves :) He was and still is soooo good man!! Can never forget JTYJN!! ❤
His wisdom, high self-awareness, ability to breakdown and simplify things and his honesty in sharing his life journey have all made this interview so meaningful for the audience. Such great perspectives and tips for life- I loved this interview.
This guy was always so so authentic!!! I admire his resilience, his courage to walk away and reevaluate what he really needs. The way he is talking about therapy is so beautiful and transparent! ❤️🧿 What a lovely guy!
31:49 I'm amazed at the sheer capacity of the mind Imran has. He is not just a smart capable individual, but a man with intellect and thought- with vision to narrate the distant future. "Digital Drugs"- a term to coin. We've to remember this as viewers. He's let out something really pioneering- with this. Thank You Anupama, and Team- for getting him on. Cheers!
I saw Delhi Belly with my mom at a theater. I know what the hell was I thinking back then. My mom kept slapping me with every awkward scene but we kept on watching the movie anyways, giggling on funny things. Love the movie and this memory. :)
I liked some of his films but never was a fan. And here I am literally getting amazed by his zen like minimalist and the very right approach to life. This interview is literally a gold mine. Thank you film companion ! 🌸
I was watching Ek main aur ekk tu yesterday and felt how much I missed the Imran Khan movies. This interview couldn't have come up at a better time!!Looking forward to your comeback Imran.
After 1 hour plus (around 2 and half mins on mins on) Imran talks about the current trend of glamourization, fetishization, sexualization of violence. 'I don't want to be a character who solves problems through violence ' Imran, your thinking is spot on. Animal was the perfect example of a terrible violent film with little to redeem it . Loved you in Delhi Belly while watching it couple of months back on Netflix . And Jaane Tu is eternal . Come back bachey.:)
One of the best interviews ever. Period. As a person who's going through my own share of mental health issues, I could connect with some of the things Imran was speaking about. I sure hope he comes back to films, on his own terms.
He is speaking right from his heart and soul - sure pure and authentic interview and so so well (intelligently and wisely) articulated. Such Transparency in his self-analysis is heart-touching, so thought through and a much more refined 2.0 version of him, is a treat to see. The sessions have definitely done him a lot of good as a human - all the self work he has done and the existential questioning and self-searching himself is really really shinning through! Great going! Really happy for him.
such a sorted soul, so grateful for what he has and ... such a fine actor. I thoroughly enjoyed watching JTYJN multiple times Thank you Anupama Chopra for drawing out such life insights and wisdom from. your handsome guest. Thank you Film Companion 💗
Blown away by your courage to share your incredible inner journey story. Love you for your honesty, for the human being you are. Thank you for being so transparent and genuine. All 90s/2000's kids are nostalgic of your movies and songs growing up in our teenage. It was a golden era ❤
I have watched only few of his movies but this interview is so honest and I love this guy..He is so authentic especially coming from Bollywood.. Every word that he uttered in this interview is genuine and lovely..His posts that were read were amazing..I wish him all the best sincerely and hope he rocks once again...
After watching this. I want this man to succeed. He's got a clear vision on what kind of stories he want to tell to the audience. He's not into money game of bollywood. He's genuinely a cinema lover. May be luck & time wasn't with him back then. I hope he finds that mission factor now. Definitely it feels like he belongs to this time not 2010s. And he's spot on about social media addiction.
Dude gives me the vibe that if ever he starts doing films again he is going to be a totally different beast and bring about huge change in the industry. Hope he stays this level of calm and peace and move forward with full power
Break ke Baad is my all time favorite movie!! Loved Ek main aur Ek tu, Gori tere Pyaar main, Meri brother ki dulhan... These are all movies that I have watched multiple times!!! I didn't understand why non of these where considered a successful movies.
Its so good to see him back! Thanks for doing this! He's unlike most of the bollywood celebrities, very genuine, thoughtful, intuitive, sensible and kind of a relatable guy! Hope he makes a comeback and tell us some great stories, JTYJN is a cult classic btw, hope he knows this! ❤
Top interview. Nice to hear from someone in the film industry who isn’t keen to hold on to a certain facade and tells it as it is. I’d like to hear more from this man.
If Imran Khan would have been a spiritual guru i would have surely being his followers. Such candid, precise and deep thoughts which makes so much sense.. And having borderline depression I can totally understand how harrowing can things get
The bestest interview By Anupama Chopra.. and Imran Khan is sooo soo deep.. so much in sync in with his own innerself.. I just loved him more when he said that he don't want to be that man who solves problems with gun.. very good point..
It’s so incredibly inspiring to watch a guy who lived in a palatial environment moving to a most modest living with only minimal belongings. It needs courage to shout it out and adjust to this new nerve racking experience. I agree with him and was asking myself do we need so much crockery high gadgets and appliances. I have never cooked anything but I do now sometimes for I was provided by my parents and my mom was a fab cook and AlhamdoLillah we are blessed to have some but I hardly utilize so it’s just clutter. I believe that we are not going to take it with us when we leave this World, we need our good karmas. My respect for him grew more. May Allah SWT bless him in abundance Aameen🤲
I found your interview empowering Imran. It takes a lot of courage to walk away from what people consider a normal way of living and following the herd. I have the same sentiments about social media, it gives me great anxiety to just be there, becoming less and less relevant in my life. You Tube although remains a treasure in many aspects.
Anupama thank you for this interview. As much as uou laugh with full your heart anupama same was imran talking his heart out. It feels like he didnt go anywhere. Hearing him out on mental health was nice. ❤❤❤❤ much love to you imran and anupama you are amazing keep smiling. Always 😊 see you back soon imran
His presence in the films brought a chill, calm factor. Most of the rom-coms we get today have actors who try to act hard with a nonchalant fashion, but Imran somehow has that embedded in him. Sure, it wouldn’t be fair to compare him with an intense acting portrayal, say in a Vishal Bharadwaj film, but he is a gem for light-hearted films. So eager to see him return and I wish in a Raj&DK romantic comedy feature.
The way you have laid bare your intensely personal struggles with managing your emotions, thoughts and setting them straight will educate many people and resonate with so many others who have gone through similar phases. It is really generous and brave of you to have opened your heart despite being a public figure and being a subject of unwarranted scrutiny. Your pursuit of authenticity and simplicity in this ego-driven, delusional world is also refreshing. Hope you get to work in the films you believe in, Imran. Best wishes and healing energy to you 🧿🌸
We love you Imran... Cant put a finger in it but always enjoyed watching you over Ranbir... Your authenticity made us smile and with this vulnerability, we only love you more... Please come back soon, more power to you!!!!!
Wow. What an amazing interview. Never heard such wise words from actors of his generation in the recent years. Love love love the fact that he called out on films that make violence look cool. I hope he finds interesting work soon. We need artists like him around desperately.
This interview made me so happy! It’s beautiful how this man thinks. There is no facade and just pure honesty about looking at yourself and life. Kind of makes me want to revisit how I think and makes me grateful for what I have. He is definitely way ahead of many of the current successful actors in terms of his priorities and notions about cinema. Loved ‘I don’t want to solve problems with a gun’. Someone who recognises the problem with today’s films and toxic masculinity. Hope he finds something he likes.
Well honestly unpopular openion but he is really nice sweet and calm as a person love to see him but as an actor he is medicore and average except his debut film nothing to remember, wish him lots of luck ❤
Oh wow I love when Anupama reads what you have written. You are an amazing writer especially when you speak about “ armor” and your feelings of getting so many compliments and looking for the mean comments as it was similar to the voice in your head. We deserve to have you share yourself with us again. Enjoyed this very much. Thank you ❤
I resonant so much with this interview, i moved overseas in late 2022 for my phds and eversince battling declining mental health, so days its so hard to make out of bed, or go to lab. I will just post something on instagram for that external validation.. one bad comment will stay with me for days. This interview was like therapeutic and gave me courage to leave my room.
Key to overcome research gloom is to find time to do other things as well that relaxes and stimulates yoh in a positive way be it going to the gym hiking in the wilderness with your lab mates or whoever you are close to reading stuffs outside your research papers music etc you get the point. Saying this from personal experience 😊 good luck with your future you ve made it this far you will cross the hurdle like so many before you just keep believing in your self !!
Gosh he is a breath of fresh air. Mature grounded humble. Learnt alot from life. A sense of social responsibility as artists film makers should have! What you see has an impact on your mindset how you see the world etc violence etc has definitely been glamorised and made out to be strong sexy it effects the youth...alot. desensitises them too. I love that he doesn't want to do those roles. Some actors would say its just a role I'm just acting its fine but they lack morals ethics and lack social responsibility
Dear Imran Look at actor Fahad Fazil of Malayalam movie. His first movie was utter flop and he disappeared for years. After a few years he came back as another man.Now he is conquering the South. Everyone has a bad time in their life. We should overcome that time wisely. You have enough calibre to comeback and entertain us. Love you man❤
No need foo these soo called mainstream cinema…u will shine with new generation movie…with this look nd love nd passion u will definitely do great…. Definitely I see u sm hard time facing camera again…but Oooo my god u look awesome. Don’t give urself too hard in making. I know how it feels to go down with mental health. Which I have been through…. That is because we r very sensitive nd beautiful as a person ❤️❤️🧿🧿my bestwishes. U will shine❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️huggzzzz
I wish he comes back to movies only and only if that makes him happy. Love and respect. Despite all difficulties he remained so grateful is something to learn from.
the most organic interview in past some time, no one is trying to pretend , no hurry, very relaxing !! What sensinble human being, calm and composed, hope you get what you deserve !!
i know very few times , people like us like to comment , if it reaches anyone, We must appreciate his honesty about life, life is not fairytale always. and we all go through ups and downs. cant imagine, from film failures to divorce they way he handled his demons in his mind, and giving an interview again we should learn from it, as he speaks , we see the intellect and a fine actor sitting in a black t-shirt. god bless Imran save this gem for good cinema.
He loves something that inherently isn’t woke, hope he finds a way to pursue his love without having to make compromises but it is so difficult for people without all out gun ho ambition. Also, Team FC and Ms. Chopra, this was the best interview I have heard in years!
My fav Imran Khan movie is mere brother ki dulhan!!!!! ❤❤ It's funny, it's cute, songs were amazing, katrina imran and ali zafars acting was also so good for each of their characters Look at the new lot today.. they all are so average. These movies are gems. ❤
I personally really like him as an individual and an actor. He seems very empathetic, sensitive, genuine and relatable person not like other actors in Bollywood. He has gone through a lot emotionally after all that he is talking with so much honesty....it is really brave of him as a man to talk about his fears, anxiety, vulnerability is awesome. I even liked most of his movies back then and really want hime back on screen.
He was the chocolate boy after the shadid kapoor! ❤ Far better than Varun, Kartik, Tiger, that spoon-fed Agastya... I miss him on screen. He was a treat to watch in JTYJN and IHLS. 😍
