I am so glad to find your channel. I like how you focus on tiny little things in China, also your personal feeling as well, which i had never seen in other youtubers who also doing videos about China. Also the video looks very professional! you are doing awesome jobs!
Glad you found the channel! Yes, I love the "tiny" stories that have an interesting twist. This video was a tough one for me but I think a lot of people can relate to the language barrier. Hopefully I'll be able to be more conversational in the future.
I think it was your large fancy equipments that scared him off as he didn't know if he would say anything that could cause himself trouble in front of big camera. nevertheless, you are a great film maker, love your angles and approach! very personal, humanistic and interesting! just subscribed.
I appreciate your thoughts! It’s true, I do look pretty crazy with the gear. I’m not sure I would even agree to be filmed with all that equipment. But I tried! I think you’ll like some of the new videos I’m working on now.
I had a dilemma, i wanted to subscribe to your channel on the video that most captivated me. I was torn between this and the Chinese Auntie Conspiracy. In the Auntie video there was a warmer and upbeat positive tone to it which was a little more captivating to me. In what appears to be your comfort level directing and humour adding to it etc. But i was expecting you to conversate with one or more Aunties to figure out the puzzle of the flowers at the end. But it turn out you didnt, which was a little bit of a let down. In this video, you at least conversated with a local. Probably out of professionalism in filming but nevertheless you did. And at the very least effort shouldnt be wasted. Well done cinematography.
I'm thinking that perhaps the issue lies with the equipment being a bit intimidating. Maybe starting with a smaller camera could be a friendly suggestion to ease into it?
Nothing like an awkward language exchange. Did you have the experience in Michigan where people think saying more and saying it faster is helpful? I'm always politely telling people here in Shenzhen to speak slowly.
Hello, I'm Chinese. I also think it is quite difficult to record videos with strangers here. Some people are usually shy or afraid. After all, your equipment looks more professional than ordinary mirrorless cameras. None of the local photography teams have this configuration. I hope you can try and communicate more, and you will be able to take the photos you want. Also, I hope you don’t drop your camera. The road conditions here are too complicated.
Some people are open to being filmed and some are not. It all depends on the environment. Usually I try and meet people first and become friendly then bring out the camera.
