Prof. Hunter - you said the WHOLE thing when you stated you pulled back from the literary / white-run world when you realized the cost. That's one of the most profound things I'll hear from this session today. I said 'one of' because Dr. C. isn't through yet! But my God, this is what I try to explain to folks all day long. Books being released today are written to make our pain 'palatable' for white folk. Not like writings by Dr. Welsing, Dr. Carol Anderson, or any of the great authors that Dr. C. talks about. Thank you, I needed that.

This class has stretched me extensively and caused me to go back and re read books I read in the 70s and 80s as a teen and young African women in NY city. And you're right, we are re learning and re membering things we have learned spiritually and intellectually. This amazing brainstorming session has deposited so much history and understanding to us as proud citizens of our rich diaspora. I'm grateful for Knarrative with all the awesome aspects of our empowerment. I have been heartened to ponder my legacy regarding my passing of the battoon to my grands. So this class is going to reach to generations to come.

Thanks, Dr. Carr, for sharing that information about your books and how you haven’t read all of your books from cover to cover, which is impossible, and how you have read something from all of them. I have a book collection comparable to yours, and people don’t understand why I have so many books that I have not read cover to cover and I felt slack in my reading regimen, but now I understand the impossibility of reading all of my books cover to cover, especially working 50 hour weeks on my job.

Dr. Carr I’m 65 years old. I really appreciate the information you’ve giving me. My pastor calls me a walking encyclopedia because of your wonderful spirit. In the 96 aura of the Quran says “Read in the name of thy Lord.” Karen thank you and yes I have a library. As elders we must become master teachers for our youth.

I grew up just 50 miles west of where John Brown lived, very close to where general Grant was born. That entire valley of ohio was once known as Abolitionists Row, from the Ohio river all the way up to Cleveland. Most all of those people hated southerners and slavery. Quakers, Shakers, Puritans and later the Amish. That older Man knew they would cut his mic off I could see it in his eyes. Those type of people are the people my ancestors thanked and thought highly of. They sold black folks land if they wanted to stay and the ones who continued on up to Canada they had maps for safe homes to camp out at. Central State/Wilberforce in the House***!***

We do have an African tradition of honoring our ancestors 4 ways: 1) SPEAK THEIR NAMES 2) COMPLETE THEIR INCOMPLETE WORKS 3) CELEBRATE THEIR COMPLETED WORKS and...4) LEAVE EDIFICES AND IMAGES OF THEM EVERYWHERE. So yes, the monuments have their place, but there is so much more to it than that.

Professor Beloved Wise Woman Sister Karen, and Beloved Elder, Wise man Dr. Carr, I am reading buy Howard Thurman "Jesus and the disinherited" this is one of many book Dr. Carr suggested for the virtual class to read. Professor Karen I had no idea how much ancestral trauma lived in me. Not just my own personal trauma, but that of my beloved mamma and dad who have long transitioned and are now a part of the Heavenly witness of my ancestors. Thank you Professor Karen and Dr. Carr for suggesting this reading. It is very freeing sometimes emotionally triggering but after that liberating to the spirit.

I just finished yesterday’s lesson while making a potato salad for today’s Remembrance BBQ for those lost in my wife’s block last year. What a coincidence that today’s discussion is similar. You like to say this is uncanny and not rehearsed. Lol! We’re being guided by the ancestors. But today’s discussion was another incredible learning lesson for me. I was fortunate to have gone to my church’s elementary school and one of my selected topics was Robert Smalls. So I knew of our celebrated ancestor probably about 3rd grade. And knew of Martin Delaney. Back then, we had a book called the Negro Almanac which several of us used. I just hope my schedule permits me to get some time on Knarrative this week. I joined months ago and still haven’t had a chance to get there. Soon. Thumbs up and thank you both again from bottom of my heart and soul.

I Loved going to work with my parents. My Dad a Real butcher & everybody in the community loved my Dad he was a black man who ran the DGS Jewish grocery stores. My Mom DCPublic Health Dept Clinics we would assist the Doctors & Nurses for the patients black & white….Now a days they don’t want parents in the schools or children in the work place

Had a busy week and was unable to join the live stream over the weekend. I have to say this session is like that cup which runneth over - so much enlightenment. Dr. Carr was on one! I have a question, maybe two: 1) are Black or African American political identities? If so, that must be identifying ourselves in terms of our relation to them. But as Dr. Carr asks all the time, who are we to us? What name do we give ourselves to accurately convey the complexities that make us who we are? 2) How or with what do we replace the ritual of memorializing our trauma? This was an incredibly inspiring session. Great work, love & appreciate both of you.
