I just watched your whole series on this. I'm a low-hour student pilot, and haven't flown in 2 months, so this has been super helpful to get back into it and refresh a lot of important knowledge. Also picked up a lot of great tips along the way. Amazing work, Skip, thanks for what you do! Would love to see more of these. W.

@@WEHVideos Thanks! Well I've been flying a 152 and a Piper cherokee, so I'll continue on the cherokee. Want to make it as realistic as I can in the sim. Cheers and looking forward to more vids. W.

I watched the COM - NAV radio video and was impressed with the simplicity and the clear explanation. Most of the planes I fly have the same Bendix-King radios so it was like a pleasant walk through a park. I make a radio application that I'd like your opinion of. It's called Aeropath RadioFinder. Please let me know if you get this comment.

Hey skip, the part about checking wind conditions at airport was confusing to me. Something about headwind, then tailwind. I guess the point is that if your engine is out, it might be good to have tailwind, unlike in normal conditions? I'm back after a few months of flying XP11 practicing all the stuff from your beginner videos. Thanks for getting me off to a good start.

Hi Sandra, Before you take off you should know the wind conditions, you should take off and land into the wind when ever possible. When your engine fails and you are trying to figure out where to land factoring in the winds is a good Idea but may not be possible to land into the wind. Landing with a tail wind has it's drawbacks and if the wind is strong it can be a real problem. For example, if you have a 10knot tail wind you are actually going 10knots faster over the ground than your airspeed indicator shows. On the other hand if you are landing into a 10knot headwind you are going 10knots slower over the ground than your air speed indicator shows. Naturally if you are landing in a field or really rough area the slower you are going the better it will be so knowing the winds can make a big difference in emergency landings, and normal landings as well! In the real world pilots look for indicators on the ground such as smoke from fire even a BBQ can help, or looking at the direction flags are blowing to get an idea for the winds. Hope this helps and thanks for watching and going through the series :-) If you have any questions please let me know I'd love to help if I can. Blessings, skip

@@WEHVideos Thanks Skip. I now understand what you were pointing out in the vid about checking wind direction. Your point about how pilots do it "in the real world" is super helpful. I'd been reading about looking for windsocks, which seemed a stretched at altitude. Of course, ATIS would be another place to look. Hope you are doing well.

Hi Sandra, glad to hear you got that figured out hopefully the video helped and wasn't to confusing :-) Here's another tip for finding wind direction. Pick a point directly in front of you a few miles away, a tower, large building, mountain peak or something and head straight towards it. Line that point up with a mark, a scratch, a bug or something on the windshield. Without making any corrections to keep heading towards the point just flying straight you will notice over a short time your point drifting to the left or right of the spot you picked on the windshield and that's giving you an idea of the winds. If the point drifts off to the left of your mark then the winds are coming somewhere from the left, if it moves to the right the winds are from the right. If you keep heading straight towards the point without it drifting off your mark you are either directly into the wind or have a tail wind coming from directly behind you ... or there's no wind at all! Obviously this is guess work but is going to give you a way to make an educated guess. Hope this helps some. Blessings, skip

Thanks Skip, can you provide a link for the Cessna POH you're using? I found a few, but not sure they're very current. I only have one 27 inch monitor, I know some flight simmers have 3 monitors, which makes it a lot easier when you can see out the left and right window without having to use the hat switch or other buttons. The problem with using multiple monitors is that it negatively affects the frame rate.
@WEHVideos
@WEHVideos 2 года назад
Hi SJ, I don't remember where I found the POH I just did a lot of "very careful" searching online. Here are two links I found that might work be sure to scan anything before opening!! Both are for the 1978 model. www.laramieflyingclub.com/uploads/1/0/8/4/10844477/cessna_172_c172n-1978.pdf wayman.edu/files/Cessna-172N-POH.pdf Yes multi monitors require plenty of video ram, you need a good video card but it's worth it if you can afford it! Thanks for watching hope it helped a little :-) Blessings, skip

Hi Skip, My old channel is gone on purpose, I'm new now, I used to be Terry's Ideas and Thoughts, so My question is: Have you tried the new X-Plane 12? I've not tried it yet, but if you like it, I may give it a whirl. Thanks, Terry

Hi Terry, I just finished downloading 12 this morning and am setting up the controllers but have not spent any time flying but my first impression from a very short flight from Benton Field to Redding Muni it looks pretty good. I suspect there will be some bugs for a while but it's pretty much like XP11 for setup etc so should be a simple switch over from XP11. Looks like most my favorite airplanes from XP11 work, I just copied my Aircraft folders to the Airplane folder. Next will be to see if the plugins work, I suspect they will. I may do a video on this but I'm not sure yet, will have to see how it goes. Blessings, skip

Hi Bosco7, thanks for you comments and thanks for watching, glad to hear you are finding XP12 to be running well. I've not had any troubles with it so far but is is still not the finished released version, they call it "X Plane 12 Early Access" and now say the Beta version is available so expect some bugs, just a heads up.
