@@vsgfilmgroup No I didn't because this post isn't about MadTV. You'd have to see some of my Mad post before making an unqualified statement like that. Both shows were genius.
@@tonyktown Well, yes, they were. But I think that's what I was saying too. You said that In Living Color was a level of genius that would never be replicated. I countered by noting that Mad TV was on par with it.
The dancers in the vanilla ice skit were the members of the rap group the Pharcyde minus fat lip before they were rapping. Slimkid3, Imani, and Bootie Brown 😊.
exactly, and all the races would watch and laugh together, as all races were playfully poked fun of; just like Chappelle Show, and you see audiences of all races laughing together at each other in a light-hearted manner. This is no longer allowed.
This show was FAR better than SNL IMO. I was 14 years old when it first aired. Watching this brought back a lot of good memories. Every Sunday I was in front of the TV to watch this show.
Saturday night live was excellent when the cast was Eddie Murphy, Gazette Morris, Dan Akroyd, Gilda Radner, Jane curtain, and the others. I really loved Mr. BILL. AND GUMBY, ...
He was being kind, in an interview with Howard Stern, Howard read the fact they thought he would be the white token comedian they needed just for white characters but they never thought he was going to be more successful than they were & how they were jealous he out performed their success. Jim Carrey just laughed cause he knew it was true.
@@gregoryjackson4493 exactly, tweeting and Facebooking, lgbtq, feminist, and cancel culture. This new generation wouldn't know how to handle this. Bunch of softies.
He actually did a surprisingly good job singing and imitating Michael Bolton. Lol I miss this show too homie. I miss the 90s period. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bi_rV9ZcCjw.html
I'm a 54 year old white boy from Wisconsin and this show is just as funny now as it was back then. Puts SNL and Mad TV to shame. It's just to bad the Networks won't let anyone get away with stuff like this anymore. All of it - pure genius.
@Paul Logan i think what you are missing is the relevance of a joke, how they made fun of stereotypes not re-enforcing stereotypes. True comedians know how to make the jokes relevant, today people do jokes to be mean spirited, case in point the comedian who played Krammer on Seinfeld when he went on that racist rift it was not comedy it was mean spirited. Also i will add, its not that networks wont air shows like this, its just that networks are cheap they find the magic formula to make money without spending money, they call it " reality Tv" which is anything but reality.
@@lockandloadlikehell how in the f*CK are you gonna tell me what I am missing, mother f*ckers like you kill me with your white explaining bullshit. GTFOH soy boy and go eat a cheese and mayo sandwich.
It doesn’t put Mad TV to shame. Mad ran with what they did here. Mad had a lot of Jems themselves. Of course InLivingColor is on a league of its own but Mad took notes and did their homework
I wonder if people really realize not only the acting and comedic jobs that this troupe had but they were also very physically funny with the comedy I mean look at all the moves and the dancing that all of the cast members were doing. So sad that this generation won't be able to witness this type of talent. This was real talent back in the day
Right. Everytime I hear this or any Heavy D song I get nostalgic for the 90s and makes me a little sad because I grew up in the 80s and 90s, loved the 90s and things were different in some ways. I miss that. And then some of the famous people from back then are gone now. Time keeps passing 😥
You trippin dude!! MadTV and Living Color were in the same league!! I agree, SNL blows, but what living color started, MadTV took to another level!! Both were known for rippin’ on other artists and being culturally diverse
Being a teen or young adult turned out to be bittersweet. Coming of age in the greatest era ever, makes it hard to find the pure joy we got to experience. The joy of listening to the radio at the park or beach and the song you've been waiting for as your buzz is kicking in and everyone goes awww shiiit, may not sound like a big deal but it was everything at the time.
Crystal is spot on with the Julie Brown impression lol. I know the real Julie Brown isn't that ditzy but still, very funny. Crystal is such a underrated cast member that I don't know if she's an actress or a comic.
For all of you who are younger than 30, here's a quick run-down of the various references that you may not understand. Most of this material is likely to be lost on anybody who didn't follow pop culture of the time. Note that there's many other very dated references and jokes mixed in to this episode -- I'm just covering the broad strokes. "Downtown Julie Brown", a VJ on MTV back when they played music videos and hosted "Club MTV". Club MTV got notoriety as the show that jumpstarted the Milli Vanilli lipsync scandal. She would say "wubba wubba wubba" as her sign-out which was frequently referenced here. "Michael Bolton" in a parody of "When a Man Loves a Woman", originally performed by Percey Sledge. This ended up being a huge single for Bolton and made him beloved by housewives all over. You may recognize Michael Bolton from the Lonely Island song Jack Sparrow "MC Hammer" in a parody of "U Can't Touch This". This is probably one of the more accessible parodies. Before his downfall, MC Hammer was known for his high energy dance rap and wearing ridiculous outfits with parachute pants. Fun/sad fact: MC Hammer's "Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em" album that had "U Can't Touch This" is the best selling hip-hop record ever. "Crystal Waters" in a parody of "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)". Waters, who ended up being a one hit wonder, had pretty big success on the charts with the song Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless). Despite trying to be a "message song", its chorus was a not-so-thought provoking "la da dee la da da" repeated over and over. "Vanilla Ice" in a parody of "Ice Ice Baby". Another accessible parody. I'm sure everybody at this point knows who Vanilla Ice is and has heard Ice Ice Baby so I won't cover this one in any detail other than to say at the time this was pretty cutting edge satire. "Prince" skit with Butt Out Jeans. This is primarily a reference to Prince performing at the 1991 MTV VMAs with assless jeans which was pretty shocking at the time. "Paula Abdul" in a parody of "Promise of a New Day". Believe it or not, Paula Abdul was once a pretty popular pop star. She had gained noticeable weight in her video for Promise of a New Day and this is making fun of that. Hey, In Living Color was never known for its subtle or high brow humor. Parody of LL Cool J's song "Mama Said Knock You Out" starring "Jimmy Walker". Jimmy Walker was in the 1970's sitcom "Good Times". His character introduced the catchphrase "dyn-o-mite!". He had little success after Good Times and this song references his attempts to resuscitate his career. "Michael Jackson" in a parody of "Black or White". Black or White was the first single from Michael Jackson's Dangerous album. At this point his skin had lightened considerably from what it was before. The rarely seen full-length video was some 11 minutes long and ridiculously opulent with numerous celebrity cameos (including The Simspons). It was one of the first time many saw "morphing" being used in mainstream media. Anyway, the the video included an extended epilogue which is the primary focus of this parody. In the epilogue Jackson smashes up a car with a crowbar (in the original video the car had racist slogans and imagery on it) and does a lot of crotch grabbing. If you haven't seen it before, watch the original full-length version and bask in the sheer WTFness of it. I'm sure you can find it on RU-vid, just make sure it's the 11 minute long version.
Great work, just need to add that the original Paula Abdul video for 'Promise of A New Me' used some aspect ratio trickery to make Paula look thinner which is just absolutely ridiculous for the sheer audacity of it. It has to be seen to be believed.
Einstein Adonis I had completely forgot about that (the main memories I had of that video were in the waterfall scenes) but on rewatching it, you're completely right. It's as if they filmed it in 16:9 and then squished it down to 4:3. So bizarre!
I was in my 20's back then 1. We ALL thought Julie Brown was faking her accent. She deserved to be roasted 2. That song Kim did was so LAME back then and it deserved to be roasted 3. We ALL thought Vanilla Ice was a joke, trying too hard He deserved to be roasted 4. People thought Prince proved he would never be accepted to hang with the homies" Because yes, the butt out at the VMAs was so crazy....and I forever love Prince, and even I was like what is he doing? 5. Spot on, Paula was getting fat and her video was OBVIOUSLY stretched...she was asking to get roasted 6. Oh I forgot M C Hammer...it was just hilarious for skinny Tommy to be wearing those pants, so he was the joke, not Hammer so much. Everyone wore those damn pants back then 7. Sean Wayans being Jay Jay. He tried to be as funny as his brothers but it never worked on that show 8. Oh we ALL thought it was funny as he{{ that Michael sang Black or White and looked so white. Black community loved him but gave him the side eye for that one...thus the punchline " I guess I am black " after getting arrested. Tommy did a great job.
0:42 When a Man Loves a Woman - Michael Bolton 4:36 Can't Touch This - MC Hammer 5:51Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)- Crystal Waters 8:11 Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice 12:18 The Promise of a New Day - Paula Abdul 13:44 Mama Said Knock You Out - LL Cool J 15:31 Black or White - Michael Jackson
Based on the short time frame "In Living Color" was on the Fox network. They produced more stars then "Saturday Night Live," "Mad TV," and "Second City Television." Remember Jamie Foxx won an Academy Award for the movie "Ray" and James Carrey was nominated for awards in his role in the movie "Mr. Majestic." Keenan Ivory Wayans picked that whole cast. Wasn't they something! Great memories.
@@equusquaggaquagga536 I only commented based on the star power of cast members of In Living Color produced after they left the show. You do have a right to your opinion. Okay.
German here, did not know the show, this video is my first confrontation with this concept of entertainment. Spit my cereals through mouth, nose and ears. Also, not sure if I sharted. Mother of god this is perfect.
You had t the best. I was super young tryna watch this, but couldn't really understand. At least you could comprehend the significance of this show when it first aired 😎
Who predicted Jim Carrey and especially Jamie Foxx skyrocket after In Living Color ended? Two of the most important comedians...two of the best impersonators...two of the greatest (dramatic) actors.
A show I have truly missed many times, many years, since it went off the air. The talented group of actors and comedians, dancers and singers, that made In Living Color so incredible. So many of them went on to become huge in many different ways. It would be incredible if the original cast were to reignite the show again, sadly though, it would never happen. And the show just truly wouldn't be the same without the originals. THANK YOU to ALL OF THE CAST AND CREW of In Living Color for making many nights absolutely hilarious. I have incredible memories of watching the show. I don't think I missed a single show during it's short run.
I'm gonna be honest I love dark humor but this was too offensive for me, most of those jokes being about lies, Mj didn't make his skin light and he isn't a pedo
@@Steve14579 Thank you and Indeed! Comedy is no longer humorous when hurtful and libelous falsehoods are televised for the world to consume. The "virgin" reference seems potentially related to the 90's Oprah interview. Didn't Michael Jackson inform us candidly that he suffered from vitiligo skin disease within that interview?? Imagine expressing the vulnerability of a medical condition on national tv, only for the public to refuse to believe you . :( & My extensive and thorough research also informs of MJ's innocence regarding said allegations. R.I.P. Michael ❤️
Tommy's skits were always golden! No matter what he did, solo or with another cast member, it was hilarity from top to bottom. His skits with Jamie Foxx as Wanda Wayne were always belly hurting laughter. 😂😂😂
This show was fifty times funnier than SNL. It never stops being hilarious. The parodies were so damn good. The Jimmie Walker one had me dying, too, but the MJ one was by far the best. Shit was so harsh lol. I remember people being pissed about that one at the time as well.
🎶You'll keep buying my music Because you're mindless Like me you're mindless Lobotomy, Lobotomyou Yaba daba dee, Yaba daba doo Ha ha hee, Ha ha ho I'll be rich, you'll be poor All beef patties, Special Sauce Lettuce, Cheese, Pickles, Onions Sesame bun...🎶 LMAO! 🤣
Tommy Davidson’s Mj skit was absolutely incredible. I remember thinking the same thing when it originally aired. Me, my brother and sisters never missed an In Living Color episode
As my Dad had lost faith in SNL in the mid 80s,as had most,I was introduced to In Living Color when it came out before I EVER saw SNL. The talent they had was amazing as was ALL of their Musical Parodies!!!! I quoted Homie Da Clown and Fire Marshal Bill in Kindergarten. This show was brilliant and I miss it in the same way I miss the first 5 years of MadTv!!! Excellent writing, innovative, and on the mark socially!!!!
Man, this is such a throwback. Me and my sisters recorded this on VHS and to this day it is our favorite ILC special of all time. Brilliant writing and comedy genius.
funny ladies rarely do get enough credit. and pretty funny ladies have it harder than all of them. it seems that most people just can't accept that beauty and comedy CAN mix! i can name 20 male comedians to every one female comedian. but that's true in just about every aspect of life. and morons say sexism is a thing of the past. ya, right.
To those that don’t know, hammer was a serious dude, anyone that made fun of him or disrespected him, he was quick with it, but knowing he never stepped on living color producers, you knew he enjoyed the joke..
This brings back positive memories of the 90’s. We need this feeling now more than ever. Too many people are so insecure, they have forgotten what a joke is. This show should be aired on all major networks daily to remind people of this.
Kris N It’s amazing how the father of the little boy. Wanted money to fund his project Michael refused. Then the boy made his claim. The father settled out for wow the same amount. What a coincidence. If it was your child would you want money or blood
One of my favourite Michael Bolton things ever is watch the video for "how am I supposed to live without you" but watch it from the perspective that he just really loves that blue cup.
In liviing color wasnt a show, it was a movement and completely captures the entirety of everything that made the 90's the most magical decade and one that will never be seen again.
