I remember watching this the Sunday night it debuted on Fox...at my grandparents house. We were HOWLING watching this. Some shows, it doesn't take long. In Living Color and Chappelle's Show were immediate hits.
I watched it as well… man this was a fun show. I loved how Homey D Clown was introduced and everyone at school started to bring socks to hit others with it.. lol this and Married with Children were the top shows to watch in those days
It depends, right? If Jim Carrey was turned down for a Chris Rock or a Phil Hartman or a Chris Farley on SNL, then it would have been a wash and everybody wins, but if he was turned down for someone no one remembers, it's a different story. . . .
According to "Homey Don't Play That! The Story of In Living Color and the Black Comedy Revolution" by David Peisner, Damon Wayans was a cast member on SNL. He was fired after less than one season after upsetting Lorne Michaels.
@@michellerose7520 I saw that somewhere and it made me think about what he could've done that bad to where he got fired before the end of the season? But in this matter, I was speaking on the ones whose last name wasn't Wayans.
@@anonymousreactions2803 You said "Everyone that was on the cast." To leave out Keenan, Damon, Kim, and Marlon (and probably others) is bizarre and wildly inaccurate.
The crowd was rocking and that was what made these sketches stay on the show according to Keenen who said it took for the network to hear the reaction from the live audience to keep the show the way it was.
A Terrific start to one of the greatest shows of ALL TIME, It became a family event every week, and very few shows accomplished that in my family. It's a real blast from the past ,thanks for posting this video.
god, this was such a good show! jim c. was truly in his element!... "two snaps & around the world!" "HATED IT!" "now i ain't one to gossip..." "MO' MONEY!" "homie don't play that!" "LETMESHOWYASOMETHIN!!" & "i was gonna rock his world" sooo many catchphrases...& 1 of the greatest intro songs of all time too.
So True. I'm glad I grew up in this time. It was awesome even with the c r a epidemic in the 80s and 90s. Great shows, great music, great basement and house parties
@@susankirklin8936 We use to play homie don't play that lmao. My brother use to bust us in the head with socks.🤣🤣🤣 allot of times on some random shit.🤣🤣🤣 growing up with 8 siblings was fun asf during these years. I miss them.🤣🤣🤣
Oh my gosh, it's been almost 30 years since I have seen this and I still remember the opening theme song word-for-word. My sister wanted to be a Fly Girl so freaking bad. I remember her practicing the routines in our bedroom, lmfao!
Looking back now it’s amazing how revolutionary this show was. Back then this was just way way off the chart and unheard of, and almost didn’t even get a chance. Yet it launched the careers of so many people. I was only a teenager at the time. I recently shared this with a much younger friend of mine who wasn’t even born when this debuted and she was shocked to learn about this show. Push it forward people.
@@spartacusani I’m defending today’s generation who was not able to see it live on air. Ask someone under 30 about this show. Chances are they will have no idea what you are talking about.
@@dominantdaddy6939 this was THE show when we were in high school. Much like when the Chappelle show came to popularity... Everyone was talking about it.
Dang I remember when this first came out during 1990 spring break. My grandmother turned off the tv during men on film cuz she thought it was too “ungodly” lol
I'm here because I'm a 80's baby and a 90's kid even though I do like Bruno Mars though...Sidenote.... LONG LIVE THE 90'S! Is there anybody here who wasn't born after 1990, geez?
Fox was the best channel during this era. They had this, Married with Children, the early Simpsons. A few years after this Martin was started. I was a kid, but never missed any of these shows.
Yeah,Fox was the new kid on the block and were more willing to put on more different programming. And there was the the Tracy Ulman show,I remember that show,
Can't believe this was nearly 30 years ago. Was my senior year of high school and I hardly ever missed an episode. After In Living Color they showed Tales From the Crypt which was also new that year if I remember correctly.
escarlit ,yes I remember it came on fox but the tales from the crypt use come on after the news I think... Sunday ,.. the Simpsons then in living color....then maybe the crypt...I remember the crypt use come on like at after 10 though....
@@thecane , I looked it up it was on fox too. It was just a tone down version. It came on Saturday night. I never had cable 😭 so I knew I wasn't watching HBO. www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1994-01-22-ca-14274-story.html
@@tiffanyt9329 I was 15 when it was on network television, and I remember my mom not being best pleased about it- Tales from the Crypt, Not In Living Color. We all thought In Living Color was hilarious. I'm not sure, looking back, why she was not best pleased... She seems to be okay with stuff like that now. I guess being in your sixties can mellow you sometimes?
Right!!! You tube censorship will probably delete my comment before I finish 😅 This generation can NOT handle anything close to this. I was watching something not too long ago and the character was "transitioning" and the scene that was the craziest was when the trans character went missing and the police show up and they were trying to describe the character and they spent 20 minutes on pronouns for someone that was supposed to missing. When I tell you this generation is wild😮
LOL omg I so love this show, They are all so talented, a lot went on to much deserved success. Jamie Foxx's portrayal of Ray Charles.. omg .. fantastic
Keenen Ivory Wayans James 'Jim' Carrey Kelly Coffield Kim Coles Tommy Davidson David Alan Grier T'Keyah "Crystal" Keyman Damon Wayans Kim Wayans and introducing SW 1 & The Fly Girlz
Wow! Glad that I came across this classic sketch comedy. This is one of a kind. One for the record books. I hated that the show had to end. Hope that it will be a reboot in the future.
Heavy D was straight flowing on that original "In Living Color" Intro. "Everybody here is equally kind, what's yours is yours and what's mine is mine".
I'm still watching In Living Color ! All these years later, I still laugh so damn hard, I wake up the house ! I feel privileged to have grown up with this show as a major highlight of my childhood. I think it played a role in broadening the perspectives of the minds of my generation. Amazing cast, brilliant show.. thank you In Living Color !
Am I amazed or what? That song definitely was a dedication to "In Living Color". That's when they were dripping 💧 in finesse, whether or not it made sense. What next?
I remember sitting around the TV with my family every Sunday night to watch this along with Simpsons etc. Such a great amazing show so ahead of its time and yet somehow was right on time as well
Rudolph Manor Rudolph Please don't make me cry :"") this was such a happier time back then in that year than now. This aired just 5 days after I was born in 1990. This premiered April 15th of 1990 & i was born April 10th of 1990. Those were happier times back then. I'm saddened that so much time has passed since then, you know?
I seen this episode night it came out. That was the weekly wait! Every week I was waiting for the next episode. And it is still fucking good. Homeboy Shopping Network, Fire marshal Bill.. All of it
Why oh why did Kim Coles ever let herself go like that? She was a solid 9 before she did living single. Then she slid into 5th place😳🫣😱 my goodness, lady! What happened between 1991 and 1995 to warp her so much? She was absolutely gorgeous!😍
Shaped my sense of humor, empathy, and opened my eyes to the reality of the world. I was blessed to be young and experience this milestone. Along with Martin, living single, Cosby show, etc. those were the days.
I can still remember petitioning to watch this on the family tv in the living room when I was a kid...I would never been able to show up at school Monday if I didn't catch it😂😂
Sunday nights were off the hook then. It was Parker Lewis, In Living Color and Married With Children. I forgot if The Simpsons were on during that time.
The blooper reel of the show is hilarious. A lot of the ones from comedy GOD Jim Carrey would have me almost borderline crying just from laughing so hard, hahaha !!!!
Just wanted to see how it held up. Love Connection was strong. Jim had a small bit but killed it. Men on Film was iconic. The black history skit was kinda wack to me. But what a classic. Even crazier watching now knowing that many of them didn't think the show would get picked up. The odds were stacked against them.
In living color features Keenen Ivory Wayans, James Carrey, Kelly Coffield, Kim Coles, Tommy Davidson, T'keyah 'Crystal' Keymam, David Alan Grier, Damon Wayans and Kim Wayans (Season One)
OH MY GOD!!!!! I REMEMBER THE DAY THAT THIS SHOW FIRST AIRED & IT WAS INCREDIBLY FUNNY. MY GOD!!! THE 80’S & 90’S WAS THE BEST WHEN IT CAME TO T.V. SHOWS. THANKS FOR UPLOADING THIS SHOW👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🙂🙂🙂👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🔥🔥🔥🎯🎯🎯
