I remember the Johnny Horton song! I must have been five years old! Now I will read 'Doctor Zhivago.' I actually never heard of Nevil Shute before but I just bought one of his novels on Amazon. Well worth the time to watch this video!
Today marks 1 year since my mother passed away. Today is also my birthday. Thank you for giving me these minutes of reflection along with your videos. ❤
Before teaming up with Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein collaborated with the great Jerome Kern to create what is widely considered to be the first "musical"....the transition from Broadway operetta to the modern musical....."Showboat". Such great tunes as "Ol' Man River", and "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man O' Mine". Today, "Showboat" is often considered racist, but actually it's just the opposite. The main them of the show is ANTI-racism. Think of the comedy "All in the Family" where the bigotry is laid out for all to see, thus diminishing it more so than any protest. "Showboat" did much the same.
Thank you 😊 for posting this. Sad to say, but most of these people I have never heard of. These are very informative 😊. A few died at a very young age 🎉. Such a shame. May they all rest in peace 🎉❤😊. 4/20/24.
We are so fortunate to have had most of these people on this earth. There are just some people who have made the world a remarkably better place, and I’m thankful for their lives.
At the time of his death, Johnny Horton was married to Billie Jean Jones, who was married to Hank Williams Sr. at the time of his death. She's still with us, last I knew.
Your comment on Jesse Belvin's death made me curious, so I looked him up on Wikipedia. It's so sad that he, his wife and their driver died in that apparent manner. All he wanted to do was entertain people.
Clark Gable was and will always be the only King of Hollywood, God bless him. Ward Bond is the actor who has greater number of movies among the best in the history of the cinema. Rip.
Roy Chapman Andrews wrote many books for children about fossils and archeology. I had several of his books when I was a kid in the early '60s. The character of "Indiana Jones" was partly based on Andrews.
Ward Bond was great in Errol Flynn’s “Gentleman Jim” playing boxer John L. Sullivan. He was in such great condition it’s hard to believe he died so young from a heart attack.
Her father was John Barrymore who died in 1942 and was a part one of the most successful acting families with his brother Lionel and actress Eithel her half brother was John Drew Barrymore . Dianna was an Aunt to actress Drew Barrymore.
1960. Year i was born. So many famous people left us. Some of these people were born shortly after the US Civil War and lived to see the automobile, the telephone, heavier than air flight, WWI, WWII, space exploration, international travel, overcoming fearsome diseaaes we dont hear mich about anymore like the polio vaccine, measles, small pox, ricketts, etc. What lives they had!
Richard Wright and Zora Neal Hurston died in the same year? That's like dropping an atom bomb on African-American literature. They were actually nemeses, as Richard Wright unfairly criticized Hurston for what we'd call "incorrectness" today, leading to her 'cancellation' until Alice Walker (The Color Purple) rediscovered her masterpiece 'Their Eyes Were Watching God.''
