I read "Gracie a Love Story" written by George Burns many yrs ago. You cannot read that wonderful book w/o shedding a tear at times. She was quite a woman and ahead of her time. May she and George rest in eternal peace.

In looking at the image of Matilde Moisant, it is clear that she is sporting a decorative pendant incorporating a swastika. I did a quick check and it seems she stopped flying permanently in 1912, and this image was clearly snapped before that date. A little more checking revealed that up to the early 20th century (long before the Nazis) the swastika, a sacred symbol in Hinduism and Buhdism, was often used as a symbol of luck and was used in ornaments like this. Anyway I was curious and wanted to avoid any uninformed piling on against her in case anyone saw the symbol and didn't do homework. This is not to say that NO famous American aviator had an intellectual love affair with the Third Reich and eugenics....but that's a story for another day.
@farfignewgenfrackenheimer8865
@farfignewgenfrackenheimer8865 6 месяцев назад
The symbol only became the Swastika when turned 45 degrees. If shaped or drawn at right angles it is as you describe.

Yes, I have a wonderful framed picture of Ganesha and his palm facing the viewer - has a red swastika on it. It is an ancient religious symbol in Hinduism.

Thank you for this video. One person who could have been included was the charismatic and very popular race car driver Eddie Sachs, who was affectionately called The Clown Prince Of Auto Racing. Eddie was a great race car driver, who won the pole position for the Indianapolis 500 in1960 and 1961and came second in the 1961 race. Sachs seemed destined for an Indy 500 win in his career but it never came. Unfortunately, Eddie was killed on May 30, 1964 during the running of the Indy 500 when he was involved in a fiery and horrific accident which was caused by rookie driver Dave MacDonald. To make matters worse, MacDonald was driving a relatively unsafe car and had been warned by other drivers about taking part in the big race.

@@shaider1982 Well they say the numbers were exaggerated by the press, but no matter what the true number was it doesn't change the fact that people still saw and or heard what was happening and still did nothing to help her. Just like the case in 1965 with Sylvia Likens, the neighbors heard and some saw what was happening to that poor girl but nobody did anything to help her because they didn't want to get involved.

You included Fireball Roberts, but you forgot another NASCAR driver who died early in the year - Joe Weatherly, the so-called 'clown prince of NASCAR', who died in a racing accident at Riverside Raceway in California on January 19th at age 41. He was the defending (and two-time) champion of the NASCAR Grand National Series (today known as just the NASCAR Cup Series) at the time of his fatal accident.
