Hi Justine, this week I found myself in conversation with a woman in a store about the passing of Karl Lagerfeld. I told her I remembered seeing him sketch a woman during a documentaty in the '80's. She was wearing black leggings, knee length black boots and a black tight top. He said that look would be the foundation of women's outfits for many years to come. The woman laughed and opened her coat and voila, she had the exact same look!! It was a nice moment ... RIP Karl Lagerfeld 💖

A few days after Lagerfeld died, I stumbled across a long interview with him and had a look. I kinda expected him to be horrible and misogynic, but after I had watched for 10 minutes I realized that that's just the way he talked. He said harsh or disrepectful things about women, but he said harsh and disrespectful things about EVERYBODY all the time. Including himself. If you have such a self-deprecating sense of humour, you have my respect (whether I agree with you or not). Lagerfeld is a good example of why you shouldn't just take quotes out of context and believe them at face value. Especially if they come from the internet...

Well done, Justine! I love this video. Very tastefully done. I learned few new things about Lagerfeld from you and this is exactlly what I was looking for on the internet. Something that will sum up his legacy and creative genius. I am really fed up with all the negative comments about him in the past couple of days. I do understand that he was controversial and that he was not perfect. I am sure there is lots to be criticised but to do it right after his death is just distastful. He was a gifted artist and there is lots to celebrate and admire. Justine, you know what this video means... you have to do a whole series now! Please do YSL next. ❤️

I really appreciate your trying to explain the person Karl Lagerfeld - not only through his work but also by explaining a little bit about his childhood, family background and the time he grew up. My feelings towards him are rather ambivalent - same as in many comments here - but I think you can't just judge him by some of his famous sentences but should try to see the whole picture.

Karl also apparently disliked sweat pants, lol, and I read that quote on twitter right before I was about to buy some.... although, I still might. I found your videos a few weeks ago when I was searching for a way to choose the right hair color. I learned that the reason ALL of my clothes are cool colors, well, I have a cool color skin tone. You helped me NOT make a huge mistake on my hair, and I thank you for that. Your videos are very well done, well captured, well thought out, and I am glad to see you doing well. I tried videos, it is difficult! You have also helped me understand why fashion in my price range is not flattering to my body type, lol. I'm still considering whether or not I even care. Every time I find something that looks great on me, it is hundreds of dollars more than I can afford, and that is ok, because at least now I know why! Keep up the great work! Karl will no doubt be missed, but he leaves so much behind for us!

well, in parts of europe nobody goes out of the house looking less than perfect, it's just a social thing depending where you are. UK has become a nation of obese people wearing sports clothes, saying things like 'South Carolina Athletics Team', where i live - i feel it's actually like a cruel joke on the people wearing the clothes, it looks sarcastic. I live in a very poor area and most people can't afford anything else. (if i sound snobby, it's because i chose the older person's choice here, of wearing old things faded and full of holes. Another popular fashion choice of men is the dirty boilersuit)

This was a heartbreaker, so sudden. I had an experience about Gianni Versace. I was in Miami for the first time, was walking along the beach walk and with chills my head jerked to my right and I knew I was looking at the steps where he was shot. I was looking for a place to eat and along Miami all are trying to get you to eat at their establishment. I wanted something quiet and found the New Cafe. I ate and purchased an item and began walking back. There was a man, everyone I guess knows of him, sitting near the side walk across the street from the Versace mansion. I told him of my experience, about the chills and then recognizing, he was the reporter that wrote a story about what happened to Gianni, and he noticed the bag I was carrying from the cafe. It was then he told me Gianni went to the News Cafe every morning and he was returning home from there when he was shot! I was soooo heartbroken when that happened to him. I always wonder what he would be designing today...Karl is another icon gone...

brilliant video, Justine! thank you! I often mention Lagerfeld's quote about money to be thrown out of the window to other people. "Geld aus dem Fenster werfen" in German also means spending irresponsibly and is mostly used as a reproach. And I love the idea to have trust in life, not to live "defensively" but to keep everything in motion, in flow, to keep money (and possessions) circulating, to stop worrying too much about money (which might be a typical German trait) - and enjoy life instead to the fullest. What you need will come to you. Schönen Sonntag! und lieben Gruß!
