In early evening of July 28th, Martin received a call about an injured hawk or type of bird out at the wind farm in Milford. He quickly got on the road for a long trip out to desert area in search of the injured bird.
While searching, he received word of another injured bird in the area, a young great horned owl.
This video includes his search and shares a sample of all the road and foot time he puts in with wildlife rescues.
Martin also shares some advice about keeping alert on rural roads and how to report an injured animal if you come across one.

Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

Having to search in summer for hours in addition to all the care and feeding of the ones you guys are already caring for is a bit overwhelming. You guys are the best, the absolute best with these bird rehabilitations.

Did the little bird have to be euthanized because it was missing an eye? I got that feeling from what you all said , about no rehab...

Wonderful video! A man my son works with found out the hard way that wild turkeys are not docile animals! He and some friends were out and saw a flock of wild turkeys in a field. He had his friens distract them while he snuck up from behind them. He grabbed one and regretted it the moment he got hold of it. That bird bite, kicked and clawed him all over. He ended up with stitches in various places all over his body. Don't think he will ever do that again. Thank you for all you do for the animals and teaching people! He could have greatly benefited from one of your video's! 😊

Hi Martin, I saw a video not too long ago about a wind farm in Spain I think that does not use the blades, it only has one blade that moves a little from side to side and produces electricity without harming any animals. Maybe we should take a page from their book.

I found a adult sharp shinned hawk injured at my office. It looked like a falcon. It wasn’t until I dropped it off at the Wildlife rescue place that I was told what it was. I was this crazy nurse flying around the parking lot with a towel I found in my trunk of my car. I wasn’t going to leave it though. I found out later from coworkers they had seen it in the same spot. It couldn’t fly but boy it could run. I talked to it which I know helped because I believe animals understand us more than we know. Anyway it’s just like catching a rooster. Grab the legs and don’t let go. Lol. But I understand an Eagle is much more powerful this guy was a little thing.

So many birds to rescue...so few Martins in this world! ( As in only ONE!). When you get a bird like this that can't be rehabbed...does Fish and Wildlife require you to put them down? Or can this one be classified as a Wildlife Ambassador and saved?
@GowildlifeOrg

Unfortunately, given the eye injury, this one has to be euthanized.

I don’t understand why the night hawk had to be killed due to eye injury. Could it not serve as Ambassador? Our wild care in my state kept an owl that had an eye injury, said it could still hunt just with one eye and they released it.

I love your videos. Just an idea: you can ask your callers to take a screen shot of a GPS map when they call in a bird and send the map to you. That would give you precise locations. I report findings to local rangers that way, with photos and GPS points on Google maps.
